Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to describe the effectiveness and evaluation of open surgical treatment of basilar artery aneurysms in the context of interventional therapy era, including surgical clipping and blood reconstruction, by retrospectively analyzing the clinical data of basilar artery aneurysms in our center. METHODS Patients with basilar artery aneurysms who were treated at our center were retrospectively included according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The basic clinical data, surgical approach, clinical follow-up and prognosis of the enrolled patients were analyzed in detail. In this study, the mRS score was applied to assess the neurological prognosis of the patients, and the relevant data were statistically analyzed using SPSS. RESULTS A total of 104 eligible patients treated at our center from January 2010 to August 2023 were included in this study, of which 67 were treated by open surgery and 37 by bypass. For the 67 patients with open surgical clipping, the mean age was 60.0 (52.0, 65.0) years. The maximum diameter of the aneurysms ranged from 2.0 mm to 54.0 mm, with a mean of 13.9 (10.0, 19.0) mm. The mean follow-up time was 38 (20, 58) months. At the last follow-up, 61 (91.0%) completely obliterated aneurysms and 6 (9.0%) incompletely obliterated aneurysms were found. The prognosis was good in 59 (88.1%) patients and poor in 8 (11.9%). After surgical clipping, the difference between complete and incomplete postoperative aneurysm elimination was statistically significant between the favorable and poor prognosis groups (P < 0.001). For the 37 bypass group patients, the mean age was 52.0 (45.5, 59.0) years. The maximum diameter of the aneurysm ranged from 10.5 mm to 55.0 mm, with a mean of 28.55 ± 12.08 mm. Bypass combined with proximal occlusion was performed in 18 (48.6%) patients, and bypass only was performed in 19 (51.4%) patients. Clinical follow-up was 19.0 (10.5, 43.0) months. There were 19 (51.4%) patients with complete elimination of the aneurysm, 13 (35.1%) with incomplete elimination of the aneurysm, and 5 (13.5%) with aneurysm stabilization. The prognosis was good in 32 (86.5%) patients and poor in 5 (13.5%) patients. CONCLUSION Treatment of basilar artery aneurysms is challenging. In the context of the rapidly evolving interventional therapy era, open surgery including surgical clipping and bypass is an ideal option for complex basilar artery aneurysms not amenable to intervention.

Abstract
Background The use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has been growing in the management of intracranial aneurysms (IAs). This study aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis of researches on intracranial aneurysm management with artificial intelligence technology (IAMWAIT) to gain insights into global research trends and potential future directions. Methods A comprehensive search of articles and reviews related to IAMWAIT, published from January 1, 1900 to July 20, 2023, was conducted using the Web of Science Core Collection (WoWCC).Visualizations of the bibliometric analysis were generated utilizing WPS Office, Scimago Graphica, VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and R. Results A total of 277 papers were included in the study. China emerged as the most prolific country in terms of publications, institutions, cooperating countries, and prolific authors. The United States garnered the highest number of total citations, institutions with the highest citations/H index, cooperating countries (n=9), and 3 of the top 10 cited papers. Both the total number of papers and the citation count exhibited a positive and significant correlation with the gross domestic product (GDP) of countries. The journal with the highest publication frequency was Frontiers in Neurology, while Stroke recorded the highest number of citations, H-index, and impact factor (IF). Areas of primary interest in IAMWAIT, leveraging AI technology, included rupture risk assessment/prediction, computer-assisted diagnosis, outcome prediction, hemodynamics, and laboratory research of IAs. Conclusions IAMWAIT is an active area of research that has undergone rapid development in recent years. Future endeavors should focus on broader application of AI algorithms in various sub-fields of IAMWAIT to better suit the real world.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to determine the bibliometric characteristics of scientific articles on systematic reviews of neurosurgery worldwide. METHODS Bibliographic searches were performed in journals indexed by the Web of Science database until 2022, with no language restrictions. A total of 771 articles were ultimately included on the basis of predefined inclusion criteria, which were manually reviewed. The bibliometric analysis involved the use of quantitative bibliometric indicators and network analysis, which were performed using the bibliometrix package in R and VOSviewer, respectively. RESULTS The first publication was in 2002, and the number of publications increased over time, with the largest number of publications in 2021 (156 articles). The average number of citations per document was 17.36, and the annual growth rate was 6.82%. Nathan A. Shlobin was the author with the most published articles (19 articles). The most cited study was published by Jobst BC (2015). WORLD NEUROSURGERY was the journal with the most publications (51 articles). The country of corresponding authors with the most publications and the greatest number of total citations was the United States. The affiliations with the most articles were University of Toronto (67 articles) and Harvard Medical School (54 articles). CONCLUSIONS The increasing trend during the past 20 years, and especially in the past 2 years, highlights the advancements in various subspecialities in the field. Our analysis revealed that North American and Western European countries are at the forefront of the field. There is a poor output of publications, authors, and affiliations in Latin-American and African countries.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Intracranial aneurysms (IAs) are common cerebrovascular diseases with high rates of mortality and disability. With the development of endovascular treatment technologies, the treatment of IAs has gradually turned to endovascular methods. However, because of the complex disease characteristics and technical challenges of IA treatment, surgical clipping still plays an important role. However, no summary has been performed of the research status and future trends in IA clipping. METHODS Publications related to IA clipping from 2001 to 2021 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. We conducted a bibliometric analysis and visualization study with the help of VOSviewer software and R program. RESULTS We included 4104 articles from 90 countries. The volume of publications on IA clipping, in general, has increased. The United States, Japan, and China were the countries with the most contributions. The University of California, San Francisco, Mayo Clinic, and the Barrow Neurological Institute are the main research institutions. World Neurosurgery and the Journal of Neurosurgery were the most popular journal and most co-cited journal, respectively. These publications came from 12,506 authors, of whom Lawton, Spetzler, and Hernesniemi had reported the most studies. The reports from the past 21 years on IA clipping can generally be divided into 5 parts: (1) characteristics and technical difficulties of IA clipping; (2) perioperative management and imaging evaluation of IA clipping; (3) risk factors for subarachnoid hemorrhage caused by rupture after IA clipping; (4) outcomes, prognosis, and related clinical trials of IA clipping; and (5) endovascular management for IA clipping. "Occlusion," "experience," "internal carotid artery," "intracranial aneurysms," "management," and "subarachnoid hemorrhage" were the major keywords for future research hotspots. CONCLUSIONS The results from our bibliometric study have clarified the global research status of IA clipping between 2001 and 2021. The United States contributed the most publications and citations, and World Neurosurgery and Journal of Neurosurgery can be considered landmark journals in this field. Studies regarding occlusion, experience, management, and subarachnoid hemorrhage will be the research hotspots related to IA clipping in the future.

Abstract
Background The COVID-19 pandemic has led to public health problems, including depression. There has been a significant increase in research on depression during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, little attention has been paid to the overall trend in this field based on bibliometric analyses. Methods Co-Occurrence (COOC) and VOSviewer bibliometric methods were utilized to analyze depression in COVID-19 literature in the core collection of the Web of Science (WOS). The overall characteristics of depression during COVID-19 were summarized by analyzing the number of published studies, keywords, institutions, and countries. Results A total of 9,694 English original research articles and reviews on depression during COVID-19 were included in this study. The United States, China, and the United Kingdom were the countries with the largest number of publications and had close cooperation with each other. Research institutions in each country were dominated by universities, with the University of Toronto being the most productive institution in the world. The most frequently published author was Ligang Zhang. Visualization analysis showed that influencing factors, adverse effects, and coping strategies were hotspots for research. Conclusion The results shed light on the burgeoning research on depression during COVID-19, particularly the relationship between depression and public health. In addition, future research on depression during COVID-19 should focus more on special groups and those at potential risk of depression in the general population, use more quantitative and qualitative studies combined with more attention to scale updates, and conduct longitudinal follow-ups of the outcomes of interventions. In conclusion, this study contributes to a more comprehensive view of the development of depression during COVID-19 and suggests a theoretical basis for future research on public health.

Abstract
IntroductionStudies on intracranial aneurysms (IAs) using animal models have evolved for decades. This study aimed to analyze major contributors and trends in IA-related animal research using bibliometric analysis.MethodsIA-related animal studies were retrieved from the Web of Science database. Microsoft Excel 2010, GraphPad Prism 6, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace were used to collect and analyze the characteristics of this field.ResultsA total of 273 publications were retrieved. All publications were published between 1976 and 2021, and the peak publication year is 2019. Rat model were used in most of the publications, followed by mice and rabbits. Japan (35.5%), the United States (30.0%), and China (20.1%) were the top three most prolific countries. Although China ranks third in the number of publications, it still lacks high-quality articles and influential institutions. Stroke was the most prolific journal that accepted publications related to IA research using animal models. Circulation has the highest impact factor with IA-related animal studies. Hashimoto N contributed the largest number of articles. Meng hui journal published the first and second highest cited publications. The keywords “subarachnoid hemorrhage,” “macrophage,” “rupture,” “mice,” “elastase,” “gene,” “protein,” “proliferation,” and “risk factors” might be a new trend for studying IA-related animal research.ConclusionsJapan and the Unites States contributed the most to IA–related animal studies, in terms of both researchers and institutions. Although China ranks third in terms of the number of publications, it should strengthen the quality of its publications. Researchers should pay attention to the latest progress of Stroke, Journal of Neurosurgery, Neurosurgery, and Circulation for their high-quality IA-related animal studies. Using animal IA models, especially mice, to investigate the molecular mechanisms of IA may be the frontier topic now and in future.

Abstract
Objective: Vascular smooth muscle cell phenotype switch (VSMCPS) plays a significant role in vascular remodeling. This study aimed to conduct a bibliometric analysis and visualize the knowledge map of research on VSMCPS. Methods: We retrieved publications focusing on VSMCPS from the Web of Science Core Collection database (SCI-EXPANDED) from 1999 to 2021. Using bibliometric tools, VOSviewer and CiteSpace, we identified the most productive researchers, journals, institutions, and countries. At the same time, the trends, hot topics, and knowledge networks were analyzed and visualized. Results: A total of 2213 publications were included in this analysis. The number of annual publications in the VSMCPS field exhibited an upward trend and could be roughly divided into three phases. Until 2006, the most prolific authors were from the United States. As of 2008, the number of articles published in China increased dramatically to reach 126 papers in 2020. As of 2014, China was the most productive country in this field. The United States ranked first in the number of highly-influential authors, institutions, and literature from 1999 to 2022. Owens GK, Hata, Akiko, and Wen, jin-kun were the most prolific authors. Arteriosclerosis Thrombosis and Vascular Biology, Circulation Research, and Cardiovascular Research were the top-ranked journals in this field. "Vascular remodeling," "atherosclerosis," "neointima," "hypertension", and "inflammation" were the main researched topics. New diseases, new mechanisms, and new phenotype (e.g., micro RNA, macrophage-like-cell, hypoxia, autophagy, long noncoding RNA, oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum stress, senescence, aging, abdominal aortic aneurysm, and aortic dissection) represent the trending topics in recent years. Conclusion: This study systematically analyzed and visualized the knowledge map of VSMCPS over the past 2 decades. Our findings provide a comprehensive overview for scholars who want to understand current trends and new research frontiers in this area.
