Abstract
Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) is a debilitating problem in women with clear evidence of myofascial dysfunction. It seems that Myofascial trigger points (MTrPs) contribute to the development of central sensitization (CS). This study aimed to investigate the effect of dry needling on pain and CS in women with CPP. Thirty-six women with CPP participated in this randomized controlled clinical trial and randomly assigned into three groups: dry needling group (DNG), placebo needling group (PNG) and control group (CG). The DNG received five sessions of DN using the "static needling", the PNG received non-penetrating method, and the CG did not receive any intervention. Assessment of outcomes including central sensitization inventory (CSI), short-form McGill pain questionnaire (SF-MPQ), electroencephalography (EEG), conditioned pain modulation (CPM), salivary cortisol concentration, 7-item general anxiety disorder scale (GAD-7), pain catastrophizing scale (PCS), and SF-36 questionnaire was performed pre-intervention, post-intervention, and three months post-intervention by a blind examiner. The result showed a significant group-by-time interaction for CSI, SF-MPQ, and PCS. There was a significant decrease in CSI score in post-intervention and three-months post-intervention compare to pre-intervention in the DNG and PNG. SF-MPQ-PPI score in DNG significantly decreased post-intervention. PCS-Total score decreased significantly post-intervention in DNG and PNG. No significant group-by-time interactions were observed for other variables. EEG results showed regional changes in the activity of frequency bands in both eye closed and eye open conditions. It seems that DN can affect central pain processing by removing the source of peripheral nociception. Abstract
Implicit motor imagery (IMI), with an image laterality discrimination (LD) task, has been proposed as a useful therapeutic tool to restore body schema in patients with chronic pelvic pain (CPP). The aim of this study was to analyse the existence of differences between patients with CPP and healthy individuals in order to justify the use of IMI. An observational, cross-sectional study with non-probabilistic sampling was designed as a one-to-one matched case-control study. Through a web link designed for this purpose, a total of 40 abdominoperineal images were shown to 130 participants during the laterality task. Outcome measures were pain intensity (visual analogue scale, VAS), accuracy, response time (RT), and CPPQ-Mohedo score (Chronic Pelvic Pain Questionnaire-Mohedo). This was an observational, cross-sectional study with a total of 64 CPP patients and 66 healthy individuals. The comparative analysis between groups revealed significant differences in accuracy, CPPQ-Mohedo and VAS (p < 0.001), but not in RT; in patients with CPP, accuracy was correlated with a lower CPPQ-Mohedo score and RT and, the greater the pain intensity, the higher the CPPQ-Mohedo score and RT, and the lower the accuracy. In the LD task, the patients with CPP made more mistakes than the healthy individuals. IMI could be a useful and complementary tool in the therapeutic approach for patients with CPP.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Endometriosis is associated with neuroplastic changes in cognitive control and pain processing networks. This was the first study to assess eyes-closed resting electroencephalogram (EEG) oscillatory amplitudes in women with endometriosis compared to healthy controls, and explore the relationship with chronic pelvic pain. METHODS Women with endometriosis-related chronic pelvic pain and individually age-matched pain-free controls (N = 20 per group) documented pelvic pain for 28 days before having continuous EEG recorded during a 2 min eyes closed resting state. Natural frequency components were extracted for each group using frequency principal components analysis. Corresponding components were assessed for group differences and correlated with pain scores. RESULTS Relative to controls, the endometriosis group had greater component amplitudes in delta (0.5 Hz) and beta (∼28 Hz), and reduced alpha (∼10 Hz). Delta and beta amplitudes were positively associated with pain severity, but only beta maintained this association after delta-beta amplitude coupling was controlled. CONCLUSIONS Enhanced resting delta and beta amplitudes were seen in women with endometriosis experiencing chronic pelvic pain. This delta-beta coupling varied with pelvic pain severity, perhaps reflecting altered cholinergic tone and/or stress reactivity. SIGNIFICANCE Endometriosis-related changes in central pain processing demonstrate a distinct neuronal oscillatory signature detectable at rest.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Endometriosis is a pathophysiological condition characterized by glands and stroma outside the uterus in regions such as the bladder, ureter, fallopian tubes, peritoneum, ovaries, and even in extra pelvic sites. One of the main clinical problems of endometriosis is chronic pelvic pain (CPP), which considerably affects the patients' quality of life. Patients with endometriosis may, cyclically or non-cyclically (80% of cases) experience CPP. High levels of anxiety and depression have been described in patients with endometriosis related to CPP; however, this has not been evaluated in endometriosis women with different types of CPP. Therefore, the research question of this study was whether there is a difference in the emotional dysregulation due to the type of pain experienced by women with endometriosis? METHODS This work was performed in the National Institute of Perinatology (INPer) in Mexico City from January 2019 to March 2020 and aimed to determine if there are differences in emotional dysregulation in patients with cyclical and non-cyclical CPP. 49 women from 18 to 52 years-old diagnosed with endometriosis presenting cyclical and non-cyclical CPP answered several batteries made up of Mini-Mental State Examination, Visual Analog Scale, Beck's Depression Inventory, State Trait-Anxiety Inventory, and Generalized Anxiety Inventory. Mann-Whitney U and Student's t-test for independent samples to compare the difference between groups was used. Relative risk estimation was performed to determine the association between non-cyclical and cyclical CPP with probability of presenting emotional dysregulation. RESULTS We observed that patients with non-cyclical CPP exhibited higher levels of depression and anxiety (trait-state and generalized anxiety) than patients with cyclical pain, p < 0.05 was considered significant. No differences were observed in pain intensity, but there was a higher probability of developing emotional dysregulation (anxiety or depression) in patients with non-cyclical CPP. No differences were observed in cognitive impairment. CONCLUSIONS Our data suggest that patients with non-cyclical (persistent) CPP present a higher emotional dysregulation than those with cyclical pain.

Abstract
Objective: To determine the acceptability and feasibility of acupuncture for the treatment of endometriosis-related chronic pelvic pain. Design: A prospective, randomized controlled feasibility study. Setting: Outpatient setting in Sydney, Australia. Subjects: Participants who were aged 18-45 years, had a confirmed laparoscopic diagnosis of endometriosis in the past 5 years, and had regular menstrual periods and mean pelvic pain scores ≥4/10. Interventions: Sixteen acupuncture treatments delivered by registered acupuncturists using a standardized point protocol over 8 weeks, twice per week plus usual care compared with usual care alone. Outcome measures: Primary outcome measures were feasibility, safety, and acceptability of the acupuncture intervention. Secondary outcomes were changes in self-reported pelvic pain scores, changes in quality of life as measured by the Endometriosis Health Profile (EHP-30), changes in descending pain modulation, and changes in systemic inflammation (plasma interleukin [IL-6] concentrations). Results: Twenty-nine participants were eligible to participate, with 19 participants completing the trial. There was unequal withdrawals between groups; the acupuncture group had a withdrawal rate of 14% compared with 53% in usual care. Adverse events were uncommon (6.7%) and generally mild. A 1.9 point decrease in median nonmenstrual pain scores and a 2.0 decrease in median menstrual pain scores between baseline and end of trial were observed in the acupuncture group only. Improvements in all domains of the EHP-30 were seen in the acupuncture group, with no changes seen in usual care. There was no difference between baseline and end of treatment in IL-6 concentrations for either group. Conclusions: Acupuncture was an acceptable, well-tolerated treatment and it may reduce pelvic pain and improve quality of life; however, usual care was not an acceptable control group.
