Bibliometric analysis of the global research development of bone metastases in prostate cancer: A 22-year study

Bibliometric analysis of bone metastases from lung cancer research from 2004 to 2023

Background

Bone metastases of lung cancer (BMLC) severely diminish patients' quality of life due to bone-related events, and the lack of clear guidelines globally regarding medical and surgical treatment significantly reduces patient survival. While knowledge about BMLC has grown exponentially over the past two decades, a comprehensive and objective bibliometric analysis remains absent.

Methods

A comprehensive bibliometric analysis was conducted on relevant literature on BMLC extracted from the Web of Science database from 2004 to 2023 by Biblioshiny, VOSviewer, Scimago Graphica, CiteSpace, and Microsoft Office Excel Professional Plus 2016 software. 936 papers related to BMLC were extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). The number of publications, countries, institutions, global collaborations, authors, journals, keywords, thematic trends, and cited references were then visualized. Finally, the research status and development direction in the last 20 years were analyzed.

Results

This study included a total of 936 papers on BMLC from 2004 to 2023. There has been a steady increase in global publications each year, peaking in 2021. China had the highest number of publications, followed by Japan and the United States. Additionally, China had the most citations with an H-index of 35, while the US followed with an H-index of 34, highlighting their significant contributions to the field. "Frontiers in Oncology" had the highest number of publications. CiteSpace analysis identified "lung cancer," "bone metastasis," and "survival" as the top high-frequency keywords, encapsulating the core research focus. Keyword clustering analysis revealed six main clusters representing the primary research directions. Burst analysis of keywords showed that "skeletal complications" had the highest burst intensity from 2005 to 2013, while recent research trends include "immunotherapy" and "denosumab," with bursts from 2021 to 2023. Trend topic analysis indicated that "non-small cell lung cancer," "immunotherapy," and "immune checkpoint inhibitors" represent the cutting-edge research directions in this field.

Conclusion

This article reveals the current status and trend of research on BMLC, which is increasing worldwide. China and the United States have contributed the most, but international cooperative research on BMLC should be strengthened. The pathogenesis, early prevention, and individualized treatment of BMLC need to be strengthened for further study, and immunotherapy is the next hotspot of lung cancer bone metastasis research.

Knowledge map of thrombopoietin receptor agonists: A bibliometric analysis

Thrombopoietin receptor agonists (TPO-RAs) have been widely used to treat thrombocytopenia, however, a scientometric profile of TPO-RAs research is lacking. Methods: This study uses VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and R software to provide an overview of current research, highlight study hotspots, and predict future research directions of TPO-RAs. Results: One thousand seven hundred and nineteen relevant studies from 1993 to 2022 with 43962 citations were identified from the Web of Science Core Collection. Over three decades, the USA has been leading TPO-RAs publications. Industries and academic institutions have been actively involved in TPO-RAs research, with funding provided by pharmaceutical companies and public funding bodies. The most productive and cited journals are British Journal of Hematology and Blood, respectively. When author keywords were categorised into three clusters, i.e., cluster 1 (immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP)), cluster 2 (avatrombopag, lusutrombopag, and thrombocytopenia), and cluster 3 (TPO-RAs for ITP and off-label drug use), ITP was found to be the current research hotspot, while oral TPO-RAs and licensed or unlicensed drug indications of thrombocytopenic diseases require further investigation. Conclusion: This study has generated the knowledge map of TPO-RAs, which provides a dynamic roadmap for future research in this field.

A bibliometric analysis of publications on trauma-related hemorrhagic shock from 2012 to 2022: Research landscape and future trends

Trauma-related hemorrhagic shock is a global problem. This study aimed to analyze the knowledge domain and frontiers of trauma-related hemorrhagic shock research through a bibliometric analysis. Articles on trauma-related hemorrhagic shock published between 2012 and 2022 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection, and a bibliometric analysis was conducted using CiteSpace and VOSviewer. A total of 3116 articles and reviews were analyzed. These publications primarily came from 441 institutions in 80 countries, with the USA having the highest number of publications, followed by China. Among the publications, Ernest E. Moore published the most papers, whereas John B. Holcomb had the most co-citations. The most productive institution was the University of Pittsburgh in the USA. The keyword burst and reference clustering analysis indicated that "reboa," "whole blood," "exsome," "glycocalyx," "endotheliopathy," and "predictor" are new trends and developing areas of interest. With the help of CiteSpace and VOSviewer, this study provides a deeper understanding of the research landscape, frontier hotspots, and future trends in trauma-related hemorrhagic shock over the last decade. "Whole blood" instead of "component therapy" shows potential advantage while "REBOA" is increasingly discussed in rapid hemostasis. This study provides important clues for researchers to understand the knowledge domain and frontiers of this study field.
