Abstract
OBJECTIVE Although the benefits of consumer involvement in research and health care initiatives are known, there is a need to optimize this for all people with cancer. This systematic review aimed to synthesize and evaluate the application of co-design in the oncology literature and develop recommendations to guide the application of optimal co-design processes and reporting in oncology research, practice, and policy. METHODS A systematic review of co-design studies in adults with cancer was conducted, searching MEDLINE, CINAHL, Embase, and PsycINFO databases and included studies focused on 2 concepts, co-design and oncology. RESULTS A total of 5652 titles and abstracts were screened, resulting in 66 eligible publications reporting on 51 unique studies. Four frameworks were applied to describe the co-design initiatives. Most co-design initiatives were designed for use in an outpatient setting (n = 38; 74%) and were predominantly digital resources (n = 14; 27%) or apps (n = 12; 23%). Most studies (n = 25; 49%) used a co-production approach to consumer engagement. Although some studies presented strong co-design methodology, most (n = 36; 70%) did not report the co-design approach, and 14% used no framework. Reporting was poor for the participant level of involvement, the frequency, and time commitment of co-design sessions. Consumer participation level was predominantly collaborate (n = 25; 49%). CONCLUSIONS There are opportunities to improve the application of co-design in oncology research. This review has generated recommendations to guide 1) methodology and frameworks, 2) recruitment and engagement of co-design participants, and 3) evaluation of the co-design process. These recommendations can help drive appropriate, meaningful, and equitable co-design, leading to better cancer research and care.

Abstract
Background Breast cancer is the most common female malignancy. Although chemotherapy is the primary treatment for breast cancer, it frequently has several detrimental side effects. Patients with breast cancer require self-compassion to regulate their emotions in order to cope with their suffering. Factors affecting self-compassion have mostly been investigated in the context of chronic diseases in general, not specifically in relation to patients receiving chemotherapy for breast cancer. Objective This cross-sectional study sought to describe the self-compassion level and to examine the predictive ability of self-critical judgment, body image, stress, attachment style, social support, hope, and self-reassuring on self-compassion among patients with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Methods The participants were 210 Thai women with breast cancer who received chemotherapy in northern Thailand and were selected using proportionate random sampling. Data were collected from December 2021 to January 2023 using validated instruments. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and hierarchical regression analysis. Results Self-compassion was moderate (Mean = 2.91, SD = 0.91). Self-critical judgment (β = 0.487, p <0.001) and hope (β =0.128, p = 0.032) could predict self-compassion in patients with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy and explained 40.1% of the variance. Conclusion The study's findings highlight the importance of addressing self-critical judgment and fostering hope in patients with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy to enhance their self-compassion. Nurses and other healthcare providers can use the findings to provide interventions to promote self-compassion.

Abstract
Objective Compas-Y is a compassionate mind training app that was co-designed to be fully adapted to mobile technology and to people with newly diagnosed cancer. This study aimed to evaluate the use, appreciation and impact of the app. Methods Seventy-one people with cancer who created an app account were included (38% breast cancer, 72% diagnosed <4 months ago, 76% received chemotherapy). Participants had very high baseline scores of self-compassion. In a convergent mixed methods design, back-end log-data (n = 71), pre-post surveys (n = 34) and semi-structured interviews (n = 23) collected for >8 weeks and were concurrently analysed using joint displays. Results About half of the participants (45%) used 4 of the 6 modules. Compas-Y was highly appreciated, with all content considered relevant and a source of support. Experienced benefits related to improved mental health. Particularly, we found significant changes in anxiety, but not in depression or well-being. In the interviews, people reported experiencing more rest and more positive emotions due to using the app. Process benefits included significant reductions in self-criticism (inadequate self and self-blame), but not self-compassion. In the interviews, people reported improved self-compassion and less self-criticism, more self-awareness, recognition and support, and improved emotion regulation and coping. The surveys did not capture the full range of outcomes that participants reported in the interviews. Conclusions Compas-Y is a highly appreciated mobile intervention that supported users in aspects of their mental health. Findings are discussed in terms of reach and adherence, app functionalities, co-design and tailoring of cancer-related and compassion-based eHealth.

Abstract
Background It is necessary to explore patients' expectations of chemotherapy-induced alopecia, anticipate reactions to alopecia, and how women intend to prepare for an altered body appearance. Studies regarding women's critical aspects of anticipatory coping behavior (anticipate reactions to alopecia and how women intend to prepare for a modified body appearance) towards hair loss and factors influencing it are sparse, especially from India. This study helped identify the factors influencing the anticipatory coping behavior toward chemotherapy-induced alopecia. Methodology This was a cross-sectional analytic study carried out for three months, including all breast cancer patients admitted for neo-adjuvant chemotherapy. Anticipatory coping behavior before and during each chemotherapy cycle period (minimum one cycle) was assessed using the World Health Organization scale. Study patients received two sets of questionnaires. The first question is asked before the start of chemotherapy, and the second is requested at least four weeks after completing the first chemotherapy. The first question included baseline demographic data, disease details, and awareness about hair loss. The second question had hair loss pattern, severity of cancer-induced alopecia, and rated the degree of alopecia in a visual analog scale score. Individual psychosocial and social factors associated with the anticipatory coping behavior were documented using a self-administered questionnaire. Results A total of 40 patients were included in the study. All of the participants reported anticipating hair loss. Five percent of the patients came to terms with the inevitability of hair loss. Around 22.5% of them became ready, 67.5% of the patients took control and 52.5% of the patients felt shame in front of society due to a lack of anticipatory behavior. About 47.5% of the participants felt that not being willing to wear a wig is a reason for deficient anticipatory coping behavior. Conclusion The study patients' main reasons for lack of anticipatory coping behavior were shame in society, insecure thoughts about the future, and unwillingness to live with a wig. It should be advised to such patients that losing hair is not a health problem (though it is an emotional issue), and clinicians can encourage them to use hats. Further multi-institutional prospective studies are required to assess the poor motivation of health care professionals to achieve target anticipatory coping behavior.
