Knowledge domain and emerging trends in HIV-MTB co-infection from 2017 to 2022: A scientometric analysis based on VOSviewer and CiteSpace

Visualization analysis of research hotspots and trends on gastrointestinal tumor organoids

BACKGROUND

Gastrointestinal tumor organoids serve as an effective model for simulating cancer in vitro and have been applied in basic biology and preclinical research. Despite over a decade of development and increasing research achievements in this field, a systematic and comprehensive analysis of the research hotspots and future trends is lacking.

AIM

To address this problem by employing bibliometric tools to explore the publication years, countries/regions, institutions, journals, authors, keywords, and references in this field.

METHODS

The literature was collected from Web of Science databases. CiteSpace-6.2R4, a widely used bibliometric analysis software package, was used for institutional analysis and reference burst analysis. VOSviewer 1.6.19 was used for journal co-citation analysis, author co-authorship and co-citation analysis. The 'online platform for bibliometric analysis (https://bibliometric.com/app)' was used to assess the total number of publications and the cooperation relationships between countries. Finally, we employed the bibliometric R software package (version R.4.3.1) in R-studio, for a comprehensive scientific analysis of the literature.

RESULTS

Our analysis included a total of 1466 publications, revealing a significant yearly increase in articles on the study of gastrointestinal tumor organoids. The United States (n = 393) and Helmholtz Association (n = 93) have emerged as the leading countries and institutions, respectively, in this field, with Hans Clevers and Toshiro Sato being the most contributing authors. The most influential journal in this field is Gastroenterology. The most impactful reference is "Long term expansion of epithelial organs from human colon, adenoma, adenocarcinoma, and Barrett's epithelium". Keywords analysis and citation burst analysis indicate that precision medicine, disease modeling, drug development and screening, and regenerative medicine are the most cutting-edge directions. These focal points were further detailed based on the literature.

CONCLUSION

This bibliometric study offers an objective and quantitative analysis of the research in this field, which can be considered as an important guide for next scientific research.

Emerging trends on the anatomy teaching reforms in the last 10 years: Based on VOSviewer and CiteSpace

The study of organism structural composition, known as anatomy, is essential in comprehending the intricate arrangements of life and plays a crucial role in medical education and practice. It bridges foundational and clinical disciplines, shaping medical education, and practice. With evolving technology, medical education faces new challenges necessitating pedagogical innovations. This article explores the changing landscape of anatomical education, encompassing teaching methods, and curricular shifts. Advancements in information technology and bibliometrics shed light on anatomy's evolution, yet research on anatomy teaching reform (ATR) remains scarce. This study employs advanced analytical tools like CiteSpace and VOSviewer to uncover research hotspots and frontiers in ATR. By scrutinizing focal points and emerging directions in ATR, this research provides insights into the future of pedagogical strategies and clinical research in anatomy.

Tuberculosis-diabetes comorbidities: Mechanistic insights for clinical considerations and treatment challenges

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a leading cause of death among infectious diseases, particularly in poor countries. Viral infections, multidrug-resistant and ex-tensively drug-resistant TB strains, as well as the coexistence of chronic illnesses such as diabetes mellitus (DM) greatly aggravate TB morbidity and mortality. DM [particularly type 2 DM (T2DM)] and TB have converged making their control even more challenging. Two contemporary global epidemics, TB-DM behaves like a syndemic, a synergistic confluence of two highly prevalent diseases. T2DM is a risk factor for developing more severe forms of multi-drug resistant-TB and TB recurrence after preventive treatment. Since a bidirectional relationship exists between TB and DM, it is necessary to concurrently treat both, and promote recommendations for the joint management of both diseases. There are also some drug-drug interactions resulting in adverse treatment outcomes in TB-DM patients including treatment failure, and reinfection. In addition, autophagy may play a role in these comorbidities. Therefore, the TB-DM comorbidities present several health challenges, requiring a focus on multidisciplinary collaboration and integrated strategies, to effectively deal with this double burden. To effectively manage the comorbidity, further screening in affected countries, more suitable drugs, and better treatment strategies are required.

Prevalence, treatment outcomes and determinants of TB/HIV coinfection: A 4-year retrospective review of national tuberculosis registry in a country in a MENA region

Background

The co-occurrence of tuberculosis (TB) and AIDS (HIV) has emerged as a significant public health challenge. This study investigated the epidemiological factors and treatment outcomes of TB in individuals based on their HIV status in Iran.

Methods

The current study was a descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study that focused on new patients diagnosed with TB in Iran between 2018 and 2021. Patients' data were sourced from the National Tuberculosis Registry database of Iran. A multiple logistic regression model was used to investigate the relationship between the most important influencing factors and TB/HIV coinfection.

Results

Over a 4-year period, a study was conducted on 25,011 new TB patients out of 30,762 registered in the national database. TB and HIV were coinfected in 672 cases (2.68%). The highest number of coinfection cases were found in patients with smear-negative pulmonary tuberculosis (249 patients, 37.05%) and extrapulmonary tuberculosis (123 patients, 18.19%). TB patients with coinfection had a median TB treatment duration of three months longer than others. The success rate of TB treatment was lower in patients with coinfection (437 patients, 65.02%) than in non-coinfection patients (20,302 patients, 83.41%). Treatment success probability in smear-positive pulmonary tuberculosis patients with and without coinfection was lower than other types of TB. Logistic regression analysis showed that having a TB risk factor was the strongest predictor of coinfection, with an odds ratio of 29.73 (95% CI: 22.05-40.07), followed by having an HIV risk factor with an odds ratio of 17.52 (95% CI: 13.68-22.45).

Conclusions

The findings of this research offer significant insights into the potential causes of HIV coinfection in individuals with TB, which could be used to inform the development of policies and strategies aimed at enhancing the identification and treatment of TB patients who are at risk of TB/HIV coinfection and to promote optimal health status for patients with TB.

Recurrent Spinal Tuberculosis with HIV Infection After Surgery: A Rare Case of Recurrence and Drug Resistance

Tuberculosis (TB) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) are prevalent infectious diseases that continue to pose a significant global health burden. The co-infection of mycobacterium tuberculosis and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) represents a substantial public health challenge, particularly in developing nations. In this study, we present an exceptional case of spinal tuberculosis complicated by HIV infection, which exhibited relapse post-surgery necessitating reoperation, along with the emergence of drug resistance. The first operation was lumbar lesion removal, decompression, internal fixation, and bone graft fusion assisted by lumbar discioscopy. The second operation was ultrasound-guided puncture and drainage of right psoas major abscess. The management of patients with HIV/TB co-infection demands specific considerations regarding medication regimens, surgical interventions, and nursing care. However, limited experience exists in treating such individuals, thus further research is imperative to enhance our understanding of HIV/TB co-infection.

Visualization of breast cancer-related protein synthesis from the perspective of bibliometric analysis

Breast cancer, as a daunting global health threat, has driven an exponential growth in related research activity in recent decades. An area of research of paramount importance is protein synthesis, and the analysis of specific proteins inextricably linked to breast cancer. In this article, we undertake a bibliometric analysis of the literature on breast cancer and protein synthesis, aiming to provide crucial insights into this esoteric realm of investigation. Our approach was to scour the Web of Science database, between 2003 and 2022, for articles containing the keywords "breast cancer" and "protein synthesis" in their title, abstract, or keywords. We deployed bibliometric analysis software, exploring a range of measures such as publication output, citation counts, co-citation analysis, and keyword analysis. Our search yielded 2998 articles that met our inclusion criteria. The number of publications in this area has steadily increased, with a significant rise observed after 2003. Most of the articles were published in oncology or biology-related journals, with the most publications in Journal of Biological Chemistry, Cancer Research, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, and Oncogene. Keyword analysis revealed that "breast cancer," "expression," "cancer," "protein," and "translation" were the most commonly researched topics. In conclusion, our bibliometric analysis of breast cancer and related protein synthesis literature underscores the burgeoning interest in this research. The focus of the research is primarily on the relationship between protein expression in breast cancer and the development and treatment of tumors. These studies have been instrumental in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Sustained research in this area will yield essential insights into the biology of breast cancer and the genesis of cutting-edge therapies.

The shifting research landscape for PAH bioremediation in water environment: a bibliometric analysis on three decades of development

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) with their carcinogenic, teratogenic, and mutagenic effects can cause great damage to the ecosystem and public health when present in water. With bioremediation, PAH contamination in water environment can be greatly reduced in an eco-friendly manner. It has thus become the research focus for many environmental scientists. In this study, a bibliometric analysis on three-decade (1990-2022) development of PAH bioremediation in water environment was conducted from temporal and spatial dimensions using CiteSpace. A total of 2480 publications, obtained from Web of Science core collection database, were used to explore the basic characteristics, hotspots, and prospects of the research area. The results showed that (1) bioremediation/biodegradation of PAHs in water environment has been getting researchers' attention since 1990, and is gaining even more traction as time goes on. (2) In terms of countries, China and the USA were the major contributors in this research area, while at the institutional level, the Chinese Academy of Sciences has produced the most research results. However, international cooperation across regions was lacking in the field. (3) Environment Science and Technology, Chemosphere, Applied and Environment Microbiology, Journal of Hazardous Materials, and Environment Pollution were the 5 most cited journals in this field. (4) There were three major stages the field has gone through, each with distinct research hotspots, including initial stage (1990-1994), mechanism investigation (1995-2000), and application exploration (2001-2010; 2011-2022). Finally, research perspectives were proposed, covering three directions, namely, bioavailability, immobilization, and viable but nonculturable (VBNC) bacteria.
