Abstract
Over the past decades, music therapy in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) has been proven effective in physiological and psychological outcomes, including sucking, behaviour, stress reduction, neurodevelopment and promoting emotional bonding. However, not every NICU administers music therapy in their ward. Research on music therapy for neonates and their caregivers has lately accumulated, increasing the evidence of health benefits on brain development and across a variety of NICU-related pathologies, including neurological, cardiological, pulmonary and gastrointestinal problems. Conclusively, we will present the studied methods of music therapy for clinical benefits in neonatal intensive care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Music therapy is an emerging and useful methodology for improving patient environments within healthcare fields. However, although it has been shown that music therapy interventions with hospitalised children and adolescents have been used for decades with positive effects, there are currently very few studies that specifically describe the perspectives of healthcare professionals regarding the value of music therapy when applied in these patients. OBJECTIVES To describe the insights of healthcare professionals regarding music therapy, both on a personal level and in terms of its usefulness in the care of hospitalised children and adolescents. DESIGN This was a qualitative descriptive-exploratory study with focus groups. PARTICIPANTS Eighteen healthcare professionals. METHODS In January 2023, two focus groups, containing nine healthcare professionals each, were created to collect data regarding their experiences concerning the effect of music therapy on hospitalised children and adolescents. Before recording their opinions, all these professionals participated in an interactive music therapy session. The thematic analysis in this work was performed using MAXQDA® software. RESULTS Two main categories emerged: (a) the effects of music therapy on healthcare professionals, and (b) the benefits of music therapy to patients (children and adolescents). CONCLUSIONS Music therapy was valued positively by healthcare professionals who described the benefits its use has for hospitalised children and adolescents. They also expressed positive viewpoints regarding the use of music therapy to improve their own self-knowledge and self-care. IMPLICATIONS TO PRACTICE Healthcare professionals may utilise music therapists to improve patient outcomes and reduce the negative effects of hospitalisation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to explore the clinical effects of music therapy (MT) on premature infants in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). METHODS A total of 78 premature infants in NICUs admitted from January 2021 to January 2022 in Wuhan Children's Hospital, Tongji Medical College, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology were selected as the reference group and received routine management. Wuhan Children's Hospital implemented MT from February 2022 to February 2023, and 74 premature infants in NICUs admitted during the same period were selected as the observation group. The corresponding management mode was implemented on the second day of NICU admission for premature infants. Amplitude-integrated electroencephalogram (aEEG) and neonatal behavioral neurological assessment (NBNA) were adopted to evaluate the brain function, specifically the neurological function of neonates, after the end of management. The degree of parent-child attachment was measured using the pictorial representation of attachment measure (PRAM) in a nonverbal (visual) manner. The temperature, pulse, respiratory rate (RR), the number and duration of crying, and incidence of complications were all compared between the two groups. RESULTS SPSS showed that no difference existed in the aEEG and NBNA scores between the two groups (P > 0.05). The distance of PRAM self-baby-distance was smaller in the observation group compared with the reference group (P < 0.05). Furthermore, there was no significant difference in temperature between the two groups (P > 0.05). The observation group had significantly lower pulse and RR values than the reference group (P < 0.05). Finally, no significant difference existed in the incidence of complications between the two groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION MT has a certain application value for premature infants in NICUs and can thus be applied to newborns in other NICUs. However, further studies are required to completely verify the research results.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The role of music in the NICU continues to evolve, with recent studies documenting the positive impact of music therapy for hospitalized infants and families. With many potential benefits and no substantial adverse effects reported to date in medically stable infants, we aimed to create a clinical guideline to integrate this therapy into the NICU operations. METHODS we launched and implemented a pilot music therapy clinical program within a subunit of a level-III NICU, building upon available evidence. RESULTS In this report, we describe our experience with initial program development and early outcomes in terms of population served, frequency of music therapy, and therapeutic modalities employed to implement service delivery. CONCLUSION we highlight the importance of establishing practices that are aligned with currently available data and recommendations, in order to facilitate delivery of a safe, evidence-based, meaningful therapeutic experience with monitoring of preliminary effects of the therapy on all those involved in the experience.

Abstract
Acoustic stimuli such as music or ambient noise can significantly affect physiological and psychological health in humans. We here summarize positive effects of music therapy in premature infant distress regulation, performance enhancement, sleep quality control, and treatment of mental disorders. Specifically, music therapy exhibits promising effects on treatment of neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD). We also highlight regulatory mechanisms by which auditory intervention affects an organism, encompassing modulation of immune responses, gene expression, neurotransmitter regulation and neural circuitry. As a safe, cost-effective and non-invasive intervention, music therapy offers substantial potential in treating a variety of neurological conditions.

Abstract
Neonatal hypoxic-ischemic brain damage (HIBD) is a prominent contributor to both immediate mortality and long-term impairment in newborns. The elusive nature of the underlying mechanisms responsible for neonatal HIBD presents a significant obstacle in the effective clinical application of numerous pharmaceutical interventions. This comprehensive review aims to concentrate on the potential neuroprotective agents that have demonstrated efficacy in addressing various pathogenic factors associated with neonatal HIBD, encompassing oxidative stress, calcium overload, mitochondrial dysfunction, endoplasmic reticulum stress, inflammatory response, and apoptosis. In this review, we conducted an analysis of the precise molecular pathways by which these drugs elicit neuroprotective effects in animal models of neonatal hypoxic-ischemic brain injury (HIBD). Our objective was to provide a comprehensive overview of potential neuroprotective agents for the treatment of neonatal HIBD in animal experiments, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the feasibility of clinical translation and establishing a solid theoretical foundation for the clinical management of neonatal HIBD.

Abstract
Depression is characterized by poor emotion regulation that makes it difficult to escape the effects of emotional pain, but the neuromodulation behind these symptoms is still unclear. This study investigated the neural mechanism of emotional state-related responses during music stimuli in participants with major depressive disorder (MDD) compared to never-depressed (ND) controls. A novel two-level feature selection method, integrating recursive feature elimination based on support vector machine (SVM-RFE) and random forest algorithm (RF), was proposed to screen emotional recognition brain regions (ERBRs). On this basis, the differences of functional connectivity (FC) were systematically analyzed by two-sample t-test. The results demonstrate that ND participants show eight pairs of FCs with a significant difference between positive emotional music stimuli (pEMS) versus negative emotional music stimuli (nEMS) in 15 ERBRs of MDD, but the participants with MDD show one pair of significant difference in FC. The decreased number reflects the fuzzy response to positive and negative emotions in MDD, which appears to arise from obstacle to emotional cognition and regulation. Furthermore, there was no significant difference in FC between MDDs and NDs under pEMS, but a significant difference was detected between the two groups under nEMS (p < 0.01), revealing a 'bias' against the negative state in MDD. The current study may help to better comprehend the abnormal evolution from normal to depression and inform the utilization of pEMS in formal treatment for depression.
