Synthesis, Characterization and Photoelectric Properties of Fe2O3 Incorporated TiO2 Photocatalyst Nanocomposites

Visible-light-driven TiO2@Fe2O3/Chitosan nanocomposite with promoted photodegradation of meropenem and imipenem antibiotics by peroxymonosulfate

This study assessed wastewater treatment by visible-light/Peroxymonosulfate process using its linking with TiO2@Fe3O4 nanoparticles coated on chitosan. Meropenem and Imipenem photodegradation was evaluated as a model-resistant contaminant by TiO2@Fe2O3/chitosan nanocomposite. The synthesised TiO2@Fe2O3/chitosan was characterised using various techniques. Fe2O3 and TiO2 nanoparticles on the chitosan surface were affirmed via XRD, EDX, and FTIR findings. The FESEM and TEM results verified the deposition of TiO2@Fe2O3 on the chitosan surface. Under optimum circumstances (pH = 4, catalyst dosage = 0.5 g/L, antibiotics concentration = 25 mg/L reaction time = 30 min, and PMS = 2 mM), maximum degradation efficiency was obtained at about 95.64 and 93.9% for Meropenem and Imipenem, respectively. Also, the experiments demonstrated that TiO2@Fe2O3/chitosan had a better performance than photolysis and adsorption by catalyst without visible light irradiation in degrading antibiotics. The scavenger tests confirmed that O 2 ⋅ - , SO 4 ⋅ - , HO ⋅ , and h+ are present simultaneously during the pollutant photodegradation process. After five recovery cycles, the system eliminated over 80 percent of antibiotics. It suggested that the catalyst's capacity to be reused may be cost-effective.

Fabrication of nitrogen doped TiO2/Fe2O3 nanostructures for photocatalytic oxidation of methanol based wastewater

An important industrial process that often occurs on the surface of a heterogeneous catalyst using thermochemical or photochemical could help in the oxidation of methanol-based wastewater to formaldehyde. Titania-based photocatalysts have drawn a lot of interest from scientists because they are a reliable and affordable catalyst material for photocatalytic oxidation processes in the presence of light energy. In this study, a straight-forward hydrothermal method for producing n-TiO₂@α-Fe₂O₃ composite photocatalysts and hematite (α-Fe₂O₃) nanocubes has been done. By adjusting the ratio of n-TiO₂ in the prepared composite photocatalysts, the enhancing influence of the nitrogen-doped titania on the photocatalytic characteristics of the prepared materials was investigated. The prepared materials were thoroughly characterized using common physiochemical methods, such as transmission electron microscope (TEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), X-ray photoelectrons spectroscopy (XPS), physisorption (BET), and others, in order to learn more about the structure The results obtained showed that nitrogen-doped titania outperforms non-doped titania for methanol photooxidation. The addition of nitrogen-doped titania to their surfaces resulted in an even greater improvement in the photooxidation rates of the methanol coupled with hematite. The photooxidation of methanol in the aqueous solution to simulate its concentration in the wastewater has been occurred. After 3 h, the four weight percent of n-TiO₂@α-Fe₂O₃ photocatalyst showed the highest rate of HCHO production.

Synthesis of Rape Pollen-Fe2O3 Biohybrid Catalyst and Its Application on Photocatalytic Degradation and Antibacterial Properties

The efficient biohybrid photocatalysts were prepared with different weight ratios of Fe2O3 and treated rape pollen (TRP). The synthesized samples were characterized by different analytical techniques. The results showed that carbonized rape pollen had a three-dimensional skeleton and granular Fe2O3 uniformly covered the surface of TRP. The Fe2O3/TRP samples were used for degradation of Methylene Blue (MB) and Escherichia Coli (E. coli) disinfection in water under visible light. The degradation of MB and inactivation of E. coli was achieved to 93.7% in 300 min and 99.14% in 100 min, respectively. We also explored the mechanism during the reaction process, where reactive oxygen species (ROS) including hydroxyl radicals and superoxide radicals play a major role throughout the reaction process. This work provides new ideas for the preparation of high-performance photocatalysts by combining semiconductors with earth-abundant biomaterials.

Composite TiO2-based photocatalyst with enhanced performance

TiO₂ is the most studied photocatalyst because of its non-toxicity, chemical stability, and low cost. However, the problem of TiO₂ is its low activity in the visible region of the spectrum. In this study, we focused on the preparation of composite photocatalytic materials with altered light absorption properties. TiO₂ P25 and various metal oxides were mechanically joined by ball-milling and immobilized on glass plates. The prepared samples were evaluated based on their ability to degrade NO in gas phase. The formation of undesirable byproducts was also investigated. Four best performing composites were later chosen, characterized, and further evaluated under various conditions. According to their performance, the metal oxide additives can be divided into three groups. P25/Fe₂O₃ showed the most promising results-an increase in overall deNO_x activity under modified ISO conditions and altered selectivity (less NO₂ is formed) under both simulated outdoor and simulated indoor conditions. On the other hand, P25/V₂O₅ composite showed negligible photocatalytic activity. The intermediate group includes P25/WO₃ and P25/ZnO photocatalysts, whose performances are similar to those of pristine P25.

Synthesis, characterization and application of high adsorption performance of novel 1,4-polyketone

This study aims to develop an alternating polyketone containing cationic groups in one and four alternating positions for increased functionality. A novel polyarylidene ketone was synthesized using simple condensation polymerization of terephthaldehyde and 2,5-hexane dione (PAK) The physicochemical properties of the resulting polymer were evaluated using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, UV-Visible absorbance, fluorescence, and SEM investigations. The findings show that the polymer is amorphous, has good thermal stability, and emits red light. It can also be used as a dye adsorbent in aqueous solutions, with high selectivity for the cationic dye methylene blue (MB). The adsorbent efficiency of PAK was measured as a function of pH, dosage, and initial dye concentration; the greatest dye removal of 96 % was obtained at pH 10, 50 mg dosage, and initial dye concentration of 20 ppm. Kinetics and isotherms were studied, showing that the pseudo-second-order model described kinetic data better than Freundlich and Langmuir and revealed a satisfactory chemisorption process. This study suggests that PAK can purify MB dyeing wastewater, remove Zn²⁺, Cu²⁺, Ni²⁺, Co²⁺, Cd²⁺, Fe³⁺ metal ions well, and is selective for Fe³⁺ and Cu²⁺; ion adsorption is chelating-based.

Effects of Mono- and Bifunctional Surface Ligands of Cu-In-Se Quantum Dots on Photoelectrochemical Hydrogen Production

Semiconductor nanocrystal quantum dots (QDs) are promising materials for solar energy conversion because of their bandgap tunability, high absorption coefficient, and improved hot-carrier generation. CuInSe₂ (CISe)-based QDs have attracted attention because of their low toxicity and wide light-absorption range, spanning visible to near-infrared light. In this work, we study the effects of the surface ligands of colloidal CISe QDs on the photoelectrochemical characteristics of QD-photoanodes. Colloidal CISe QDs with mono- and bifunctional surface ligands are prepared and used in the fabrication of type-II heterojunction photoanodes by adsorbing QDs on mesoporous TiO₂. QDs with monofunctional ligands are directly attached on TiO₂ through partial ligand detachment, which is beneficial for electron transfer between QDs and TiO₂. In contrast, bifunctional ligands bridge QDs and TiO₂, increasing the amount of QD adsorption. Finally, photoanodes fabricated with oleylamine-passivated QDs show a current density of ~8.2 mA/cm², while those fabricated with mercaptopropionic-acid-passivated QDs demonstrate a current density of ~6.7 mA/cm² (at 0.6 V_RHE under one sun illumination). Our study provides important information for the preparation of QD photoelectrodes for efficient photoelectrochemical hydrogen generation.

High adsorption capacity of phenol and methylene blue using activated carbon derived from lignocellulosic agriculture wastes

The resources of clean water worldwide are very limited, and climate change is already affecting the available supplies. Therefore, developing a low-cost, highly efficient, and recyclable adsorbent to upgrade water quality has become an essential task. Herein, we report the fabrication of activated carbon (AC) adsorbents derived from lignocellulosic wastes. Both physical and chemical activation were investigated to modify the surface texture properties. The results indicated that increasing the activation temperature, whether physically or chemically, increases the specific surface area (S_BET). On the contrary, increasing the amount of the chemical activating agent significantly decreases the S_BET values. The S_BET of 1771, 2120, and 2490 m² g⁻¹ were obtained for water vapor, K₂CO₃ and KOH, at activation temperatures of 950 °C, 800 °C, and 800 °C, respectively. Methylene blue (MB) and phenol were used as adsorbates for the adsorption experiment. Adsorption of methylene blue dye revealed the ability of the water activated carbon to remove more than 95% of the dye (100 ppm) within 5 min with an adsorption capacity of 148.8 mg g⁻¹. For phenol adsorption, Several parameters were investigated, including initial concentration (50–250 ppm), pH (2–10), contact time (5–60 min), and temperature (25–45 °C). The highest adsorption capacity of phenol achieved was 158.9 mg g⁻¹. The kinetics of adsorption of phenol was better described by pseudo-second-order reaction while the isotherm process using Langmuir model. This study presents a roadmap for conversion of lignocellulosic biomass waste into highly efficient porous carbon adsorbents.
