Promotional Effect of Cerium and/or Zirconium Doping on Cu/ZSM-5 Catalysts for Selective Catalytic Reduction of NO by NH3

Preparation and application of foamed ceramic panels in interior design

A new type of foam ceramics was prepared with fly ash (CFA). Before sintering, the CFA underwent alkali activation, resulting in an even layer of hydroxy sodalite crystals covering the CFA particles. The pre-treatment of the CFA-alkali-activated material caused it to exhibit a reaction in sintering. The foamed ceramics had the best qualities when sintered at 1,300°C; the leaching toxicity studies of a material used in interior design revealed that during sintering.

Preparation of a Gangue-Based X-type Zeolite Molecular Sieve as a Multiphase Fenton Catalyst and Its Catalytic Performance

In this study, a series of X-type zeolite molecular sieve catalysts, modified with copper (Cu-X), were prepared by an alkali fusion-hydrothermal synthesis using coal gangue from Inner Mongolia. These catalysts were used in the degradation of the methylene blue dye by a Fenton-like reaction. Characterization results showed that Cu is considered to be present in the surface structure of the zeolite in the form of doped Cu ions and metal oxide. It is believed that Cu2+ is the main active site involved in the Fenton reaction. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) spectra indicated that Cu2+ and Cu+ coexist in the catalysts and participate together in the Fenton reaction. The degradation of methylene blue by the Cu-X catalysts was investigated to determine the optimal catalytic conditions in terms of six aspects: catalyst dosage, initial solution concentration, initial pH of the solution, H2O2 dosage, copper loading, and reaction temperature. The experimental results showed that CX-1.0 had excellent activity and stability for the degradation and decolorization of the methylene blue dye, which could completely degrade the dye within 90 min, and the total organic carbon removal rate reached as high as 97.8%. Electron spin resonance (ESR) and radical capture experiments showed that •OH played a dominant role in the Fenton-like reaction. Combined with XPS, ESR, and catalytic tests, the redox cycle of Cu+/Cu2+ was found to be accelerating the generation of reactive radicals in the Fenton system.

Preparation and Performance of Cerium-Based Catalysts for Selective Catalytic Reduction of Nitrogen Oxides: A Critical Review

Selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides with NH3 (NH3-SCR) is still the most commonly used control technology for nitrogen oxides emission. Specifically, the application of rare earth materials has become more and more extensive. CeO2 was widely developed in NH3-SCR reaction due to its good redox performance, proper surface acidity and abundant resource reserves. Therefore, a large number of papers in the literature have described the research of cerium-based catalysts. This review critically summarized the development of the different components of cerium-based catalysts, and characterized the preparation methods, the catalytic performance and reaction mechanisms of the cerium-based catalysts for NH3-SCR. The purpose of this review is to highlight: (1) the modification effect of the various metal elements for cerium-based catalysts; (2) various synthesis methods of the cerium-based catalysts; and (3) the physicochemical properties of the various catalysts and clarify their relations to catalytic performances, particularly in the presence of SO2 and H2O. Finally, we hope that this work can give timely technical guidance and valuable insights for the applications of NH3-SCR in the field of NOx control.

The Influence of Ce or Mn Doping on Cu-Based Catalysts for De-NOx with NH3-SCR

In this study, the de-NOx performance of Cu-based zeolite catalysts supported on topological structure (SSZ-13, BEA, ZSM-5) and loaded with different doses of copper (from 2 to 6 wt.%) was investigated. The preparation of copper-based catalysts adopted the incipient wetness impregnation method. To analyze the physicochemical properties of the catalysts, advanced techniques like BET, XRD, NH3-TPD, H2-TPR, and DRS UV-Vis were used. The performance tests suggested the 4Cu/SSZ-13 catalyst exhibited higher low-temperature activity and wider temperature window. Furthermore, compared with Mn-Cu/SSZ-13, the Ce-Cu/SSZ-13 catalysts exhibited better de-NOx performance.

Effect of Hydrothermal Aging Treatment on Decomposition of NO by Cu-ZSM-5 and Modified Mechanism of Doping Ce against This Influence

Cu-ZSM-5 and Ce-doped Cu-Ce-ZSM-5 samples were prepared by liquid-phase ion exchange method. The two catalysts were subjected to hydrothermal aging treatment in the simulated flue gas of a coal-fired power station at an ageing temperature of 650-850 °C. The denitration experiment found that the activity of the aged Cu-ZSM-5 was 19.6% to 41% lower than that of the fresh Cu-ZSM-5 at the optimal decomposition temperature of NO at 550 °C, while the aged Cu-Ce-ZSM-5 had only a 14.8% to 31.5% reduction in activity than the fresh Cu-Ce-ZSM-5. The samples were characterized by XRD, BET, H₂-TPR, XPS, NO-TPD, etc. The results showed that hydrothermal aging treatment leads to the dealumination of the ZSM-5 framework and reduces the specific surface area and pore volume of the micropore in the sample. It also exacerbates the isolated Cu²⁺, and the active center {Cu²⁺-O^2--Cu²⁺}²⁺ dimers migrate towards the sample surface and form inactive CuO. Doping with Ce can promote the dispersion of Cu(OH)⁺, which was the precursor of {Cu²⁺-O^2--Cu²⁺}²⁺. Ce³⁺ can preferentially occupy the less active bridged hydroxyl exchange sites, so that copper ions occupy the more active aluminum hydroxyl sites, thereby inhibiting the migration of active centers.

Waste control by waste: Fenton-like oxidation of phenol over Cu modified ZSM-5 from coal gangue

Coal gangue and phenol are two main pollutants in coal mining and processing. Using coal gangue as raw material, a series of Cu modified ZSM-5 (Cu/ZSM-5) catalysts were developed to remove phenol through heterogeneous Fenton-like reaction. This procedure implies the concept of waste control by waste. The characterization results showed that Cu modification had no obvious impact on the MFI (Mobile Five) structure of ZSM-5. Copper ions were presented as doping element (substitution of Na and Al ions) and copper oxides on ZSM-5 surface. The XPS spectra suggested the co-existence of Cu²⁺ and Cu⁺. As a consequence of well-defined experimental parameters, 7% Cu/ZSM-5 performed excellent activity and stability for the degradation and mineralization of phenol pollutant, which could degrade phenol completely within 30min and the TOC removal efficiency could reach 63% within 60min and 92% within 8h. ESR and radicals capturing experiments demonstrated that OH and ¹O₂ played the dominant roles in the Fenton-like reaction. In combination with XPS, ESR and catalytic tests, it's found that the redox cycling of Cu⁺/Cu²⁺ played critical roles in accelerating the active radical generation in this Fenton-like system.
