Structural, Hirshfeld Surface Analysis, Morphological Approach, and Spectroscopic Study of New Hybrid Iodobismuthate Containing Tetranuclear 0D Cluster Bi4I16·4(C6H9N2) 2(H2O)

New Organic-Inorganic Salt Based on Fluconazole Drug: TD-DFT Benchmark and Computational Insights into Halogen Substitution

In this study, we report the synthesis of a new organic–inorganic molecular salt of the clinically used antifungal drug fluconazole, (H2Fluconazole).SnCl₆.2H₂O. By detailed investigation and analysis of its structural properties, we show that the structure represents a 0D structure built of alternating organic and inorganic zig-zag layers along the crystallographic c-axis and the primary supramolecular synthons in this salt are hydrogen bonding, F···π and halogen bonding interactions. Magnetic measurements reveal the co-existence of weak ferromagnetic behavior at low magnetic field and large diamagnetic contributions, indicating that the synthesized material behaves mainly as a diamagnetic material, with very low magnetic susceptibility and with a band gap energy of 3.6 eV, and the salt is suitable for semiconducting applications. Extensive theoretical study is performed to explain the acceptor donor reactivity of this compound and to predict the Cl-substitution effect by F, Br and I. The energy gap, frontier molecular orbitals (FMOs) and the different chemical reactivity descriptors were evaluated at a high theoretical level. Calculations show that Cl substitution by Br and I generates compounds with more important antioxidant ability and the intramolecular charge transfer linked to the inorganic anion.

An Experimental and Theoretical Study of the Optical Properties of (C2H7N4O)2BiCl5 for an Optoelectronic Application

This study explores the electronic properties of (C2H7N4O)2BiCl5 using the density functional theory (DFT) method, which was compared with the experimental data. The band structure of the compound indicated that it is a direct semiconductor with a band gap energy of 3.54 eV, which was comparable with the value (3.20 eV) obtained experimentally from the UV–vis spectroscopy. The density of state study showed that the conduction band was formed mainly by Bi 6p, C 2p, and N 2p states, while the valence band was formed mainly by Cl 2p, O 2p, and N 2p states. Hirshfeld surface analysis and enrichment ratio (E) were further used to investigate and quantify the intermolecular interactions within the compound. These studies established that the most important role in the stability of the structure of this crystalline material was provided by hydrogen bonding and π–π stacking interactions. The crystalline morphology of the compound was determined using BFDH simulation, based on the single-crystal structure result. Furthermore, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was used to study the vibrational modes of carbamoyl-ganidinium cations. The charge transfer process within the anionic chains of [BiCl5]∝, studied using photoluminescence spectroscopy, resulted in a broad emission band with two positions of maxima centered at 336 and 358 nm. This work offers a good understanding of the optical, structural, as well as the electrical properties of (C2H7N4O)2BiCl5, which are necessary in its applications in areas such as multifunctional magnetic, optoelectronic, and photonic systems.

The Coordination Behavior of Two New Complexes, [(C7H10NO2)CdCl3]n(I) and [(C7H9NO2)CuCl2] (II), Based on 2,6-Dimethanolpyridine; Elaboration of the Structure and Hirshfeld Surface, Optical, Spectroscopic and Thermal Analysis

Two novel complexes, [(C₇H₁₀NO₂)CdCl₃]_n(I) and [(C₇H₉NO₂)CuCl₂],havebeen synthesized and characterized. Single crystal X-ray diffraction revealed that in compound (I), 2,6-dimethanol pyridinium acts as a monodentate ligand through the O atom of the hydroxyl group. Contrarily, the 2,6-dimethanol pyridine ligand interacts tridentately with the Cu(II) ion via the nitrogen atoms and the two oxygen (O, O’) atoms of the two hydroxyl groups. The structure’s intermolecular interactions were studied using contact enrichment ratios and Hirshfeld surfaces. Following metal coordination, numerous hydrogen connections between entities and parallel displacement stacking interactions between pyridine rings dictate the crystal packing of both compounds. The aromatic cycles generate layers in the crystal for both substances. Powder XRD measurements confirmed the crystalline sample phase purity. SEM confirmed the surface homogeneity, whereas EDX semi-quantitative analysis corroborated the composition. IR spectroscopy identified vibrational absorption bands, while optical UV-visible absorption spectroscopy investigated optical properties. The thermal stability of the two materials was tested using TG-DTA.

Interfacial Modeling of Fibrinogen Adsorption onto LiNbO3 Single Crystal-Single Domain Surfaces

For the development of next-generation protein-based biosensor surfaces, it is important to understand how functional proteins, such as fibrinogen (FBG), interact with polar substrate surfaces in order to prepare highly sensitive points of medical care diagnostics. FBG, which is a fibrous protein with an extracellular matrix, has both positively and negatively charged regions on its 3-dimensional surface, which makes interpreting how it effectively binds to polarized surfaces challenging. In this study, single-crystal LiNbO₃ (LNO) substrates that have surface charges were used to investigate the adsorption of FBG protruding polar fragments on the positively and negatively charged LNO surfaces. We performed a combination of experiments and multi-scale molecular modeling to understand the binding of FBG in vacuum and water-solvated surfaces of LNO. XPS measurements showed that the FBG adsorption on LNO increased with increment in solution concentration on surfaces independent of charges. Multi-scale molecular modeling employing Quantum Mechanics, Monte Carlo, and Molecular Mechanics addressed the phenomenon of FBG fragment bonding on LNO surfaces. The binding simulation validated the experimental observation using zeta potential measurements which showed presence of solvated medium influenced the adsorption phenomenon due to the negative surface potential.

Development of a Nanocrystal Formulation of a Low Melting Point API Following a Quality by Design Approach

Preparation of nanocrystal formulations by wet media milling and spray-drying is a reliable technique to enhance dissolution and ameliorate absorption limitations of poorly soluble BCS II drugs. However, when thermosensitive compositions are dried at high temperatures, the risks of particle aggregation and thermal degradation must be considered. The present study investigates the effects of nanosuspension formulation variables when performing the spray drying process at equidistant temperatures above and below the melting point. Towards this purpose, Fenofibrate is exploited as a model drug of unfavorable pharmacokinetic profile and low melting point (79–82 °C), properties that render thermal processing a nontrivial task. Rationalizing the system’s behavior by combining molecular simulations with QbD methodology, the preparation of stable nanocrystals can be “steered” in order to avoid undesirable melting. The statistically resolved operational conditions showed that Fenofibrate Critical Quality Attribute–compliant nanosuspensions i.e., bearing hydrodynamic diameter and ζ-potential of 887 nm and −16.49 mV, respectively, were obtained by wet milling drug to Pharmacoat and mannitol weighted optimum ratios of 4.075% and 0.75%, after spray drying at the desired temperature of 77 °C. In conclusion, we present a quality assurance methodology of nano-comminution generally applicable for thermo-labile BCS II drugs.

One-Dimensional Organic-Inorganic Material (C6H9N2)2BiCl5: From Synthesis to Structural, Spectroscopic, and Electronic Characterizations

The new organic–inorganic compound (C₆H₉N₂)₂BiCl₅ (I) has been grown by the solvent evaporation method. The one-dimensional (1D) structure of the allylimidazolium chlorobismuthate (I) has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. It crystallizes in the centrosymmetric space group C2/c and consists of 1-allylimidazolium cations and (1D) chains of the anion BiCl₅²⁻, built up of corner-sharing [BiCl₆³⁻] octahedra which are interconnected by means of hydrogen bonding contacts N/C–H⋯Cl. The intermolecular interactions were quantified using Hirshfeld surface analysis and the enrichment ratio established that the most important role in the stability of the crystal structure was provided by hydrogen bonding and H···H interactions. The highest value of E was calculated for the contact N⋯C (6.87) followed by C⋯C (2.85) and Bi⋯Cl (2.43). These contacts were favored and made the main contribution to the crystal packing. The vibrational modes were identified and assigned by infrared and Raman spectroscopy. The optical band gap (Eg = 3.26 eV) was calculated from the diffuse reflectance spectrum and showed that we can consider the material as a semiconductor. The density functional theory (DFT) has been used to determine the calculated gap, which was about 3.73 eV, and to explain the electronic structure of the title compound, its optical properties, and the stability of the organic part by the calculation of HOMO and LUMO energy and the Fukui indices.

Crystal structure, optical property and Hirshfeld surface analysis of bis-[1-(prop-2-en-1-yl)-1H-imidazol-3-ium] hexa-chlorido-stannate(IV)

A new 0D organic-inorganic hybrid material bis-[1-(prop-2-en-1-yl)-1H-imidazol-3-ium] hexa-chlorido-stannate(IV), (C6H9N2)2[SnCl6], has been prepared and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, Hirshfeld surface analysis and UV-visible spectroscopy. The structure consists of isolated [SnCl6]2- octa-hedral anions separated by layers of organic 1-(prop-2-en-1-yl)-1H-imidazol-3-ium cations. The 1-(prop-2-en-1-yl) fragment in the organic cation exhibits disorder over two sets of atomic sites having occupancies of 0.512 (9) and 0.488 (9). The crystal packing of the title compound is established by inter-molecular N/C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bond and π- π stacking inter-actions. Hirshfeld surface analysis employing three-dimensional mol-ecular surface contours and two-dimensional fingerprint plots has been used to analyse the inter-molecular inter-actions present in the structure. The optical properties of the crystal were studied using UV-visible absorption spectroscopy, showing one intense band at 208 nm, which is attributed to π-π* transitions in the cations.
