Vibrational Properties of Benzoxaboroles and Their Interactions with Candida albicans’ LeuRS

Benzoxaboroles have emerged over the past decade mainly due to their growing medicinal importance. Regarding the wide application of IR spectroscopy in the pharmaceutical industry, the vibrational properties of over a dozen of benzoxaboroles were described, based on results of DFT calculations as well as IR and Raman spectra measurements. Investigated series of compounds included the currently available antifungal drug (Tavaborole, AN2690) as well as its derivatives. An intense and well-isolated band corresponding to the B-OH group stretching vibrations was present in all experimental IR spectra in the range of 1446–1414 cm−1 and can be considered as characteristic for benzoxaboroles. The vibrational properties of benzoxaboroles are shown to be affected by the formation of intramolecular as well as intermolecular hydrogen bonds, which should also influence the interactions of benzoxaboroles with biomolecules and impact on their biological functions. Docking studies of the benzoxaboroles’ adenosine monophosphate (AMP) spiroboronates into the Candida albicans leucyl-RS synthetase binding pocket showed that the introduction of an amine substituent has a strong influence on their binding. The determined values of inhibition constants manifest high potential of some of the investigated molecules as possible inhibitors of that enzyme.

A new series of lanthanide-based complexes with a bis(hydroxy)benzoxaborolone ligand: synthesis, crystal structure, and magnetic and optical properties

Reactions, under hydrothermal conditions, between lanthanide chlorides and the sodium salt of 2-carboxyphenylboronic acid lead to a series of lanthanide-based complexes with general chemical formula [Ln₂(C₇H₅O₂)₄(C₇O₄H₆B)₂·4H₂O] with Ln = Eu–Dy.

Lanthanide-Based Coordination Polymers With 1,4-Carboxyphenylboronic Ligand: Multiemissive Compounds for Multisensitive Luminescent Thermometric Probes

Reactions in water of lanthanide chlorides with the sodium salt of 1,4-carboxyphenylboronic acid lead to two series of isostructural compounds with respective general chemical formulas [Ln(cpb)₃(H₂O)₂]_∞ for Ln = La or Ce and [Ln(cpbOH)(H₂O)₂·(cpb)]_∞ for Ln = Pr-Lu (except Pm) plus Y. Heterolanthanide coordination polymers that are isostructural to the second series have been synthesized, and their photophysical properties have been studied. This study evidences that it is possible to design multiemissive lanthanide-based coordination polymers that could find their application as multigauge luminescent thermometric probes.

Recent advances in solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy of exotic nuclei

We present a review of recent advances in solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (SSNMR) studies of exotic nuclei. Exotic nuclei may be spin-1/2 or quadrupolar, and typically have low gyromagnetic ratios, low natural abundances, large quadrupole moments (when I > 1/2), or some combination of these properties, generally resulting in low receptivities and/or prohibitively broad line widths. Some nuclides are little studied for other reasons, also rendering them somewhat exotic. We first discuss some of the recent progress in pulse sequences and hardware development which continues to enable researchers to study new kinds of materials as well as previously unfeasible nuclei. This is followed by a survey of applications to a wide range of exotic nuclei (including e.g., ⁹Be, ²⁵Mg, ³³S, ³⁹K, ⁴³Ca, ^47/49Ti, ⁵³Cr, ⁵⁹Co, ⁶¹Ni, ⁶⁷Zn, ⁷³Ge, ⁷⁵As, ⁸⁷Sr, ¹¹⁵In, ¹¹⁹Sn, ^121/123Sb, ^135/137Ba, ^185/187Re, ²⁰⁹Bi), most of them quadrupolar. The scope of the review is the past ten years, i.e., 2007-2017.
