Efficacy and safety of thermobalancing therapy with Dr Allen's Device for chronic low back pain: A randomised controlled trial

BACKGROUND

Lumbar disc herniation and non-specific low back pain are common conditions that seriously affect patients' health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Although empirical evidence has demonstrated that novel Thermobalancing therapy and Dr Allen's Device can relieve chronic low back pain, there have been no randomised controlled trials for these indications.

AIM

To evaluate the efficacy of Dr Allen's Device in lumbar disc herniation (LDH) and non-specific low back pain (NSLBP).

METHODS

A randomised clinical trial was conducted investigating 55 patients with chronic low back pain due to LDH (n = 28) or NSLBP (n = 27), out of which 15 were randomly assigned to the control group and 40 were assigned to the treatment group. The intervention was treatment with Dr Allen's Device for 3 mo. Changes in HRQoL were assessed using the Numerical Pain Rating Scale and the Japanese Orthopedic Association Back Pain Questionnaire.

RESULTS

Thermobalancing therapy with Dr Allen's Device showed a significant reduction in pain in the treatment group (P < 0.001), with no recorded adverse effects. Both pain assessment scales showed a significant improvement in patients' perception of pain indicating improvement in HRQoL.

CONCLUSION

The out-of-hospital use of Thermobalancing therapy with Dr Allen's Device for Low Back Treatment relieves chronic low back pain significantly and without adverse effects, improves the level of activity and HRQoL among patients with LDH and NSLBP. This study demonstrates the importance of this safe first-line therapy that can be used for effective at-home management of chronic low back pain.

Calycosin protects against chronic prostatitis in rats via inhibition of the p38MAPK/NF-κB pathway

Currently, the effect and molecular mechanism of calycosin, the main active ingredient of Qinshi Simiao San, which can alleviate chronic prostatitis (CP), on CP remain unclear. This study aimed to elucidate the potential mechanism of action of calycosin in CP in a rat CP model. The prostate tissue morphology was evaluated based on hematoxylin-eosin staining. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was conducted to evaluate inflammatory cytokine and immune factor levels (secretory immunoglobulin A [SIgA]; immunoglobulin G [IgG]) in prostate tissues and serum. Additionally, representative biomarkers of oxidative stress, including malondialdehyde, superoxide dismutase, and catalase were detected using detection kits, and reactive oxygen species release was evaluated using immunofluorescence staining. Furthermore, the p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38MAPK)/NF-kappaB (NF-κB) signaling pathway was analyzed by western blotting. The results showed that calycosin substantially ameliorated the pathological damage to prostate tissues of the CP rats. Moreover, calycosin significantly downregulated interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha, IgG, and SIgA levels. Furthermore, we found that calycosin considerably suppressed oxidative stress and inhibited the activation of the p38MAPK/NF-κB signaling pathway in rats with CP. In summary, our findings revealed that calycosin protects against CP in rats by inhibiting the p38MAPK/NF-κB pathway.

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia and Kidney Stone Disease Thermobalancing Therapy with Dr Allen’s Device: Key to Successful Ageing Without Medications, Surgery, and Risky Exposure to Coronavirus Infection

Background: The choice of treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and kidney stone disease (KSD) impacts the attainment of successful ageing and the level of patient care required in the long-term. Medications and surgeries typically used for these conditions have serious side effects and can interfere with healthy aging. Objectives: This study assesses the impact of Dr Allen’s Therapeutic devices (DATD) and thermobalancing therapy® (TT) on the ageing process of people with BPH and KSD. Methods: This study evaluated the outcomes of a clinical trial investigating the dynamics of symptoms and parameters in 124 male patients with BPH who used DATD as a monotherapy for six months at home and compared the results with a control group comprising 124 BPH patients who did not receive treatment with DATD. Furthermore, five case studies were randomly selected for assessment from 10-year empirical observations of patients with KSD treated with DATD. Results: DATD with TT reduced prostate volume (PV) from 45 mL to 31 mL (P < 0.001) and reduced urinary symptoms score from 14.2 to 4.9 (P < 0.001). It also improved quality of life (QoL) as measured by the reduction in the International Prostate Symptom score (I-PSS) from 3.9 to 1.3 (P < 0.001), while the control group showed no positive changes. DATD with TT dissolved kidney stones without renal colic in all patients. No side effects were observed. Conclusions: Using DATD and TT to treat BPH and KSD demonstrated high efficacy, safety, and easy disease management at home. In contrast, medications and surgeries for BPH and KSD often lead to sexual dysfunction, depression, hypertension, chronic kidney failure, and other morbidities, requiring an increased care level in the long-term. Thus, DATD and TT generate high treatment efficacy with lower exposure to coronavirus, reduce long-term care needs, and are vital to attaining successful ageing and longevity.
