Intrinsic Dimension Estimation-Based Feature Selection and Multinomial Logistic Regression for Classification of Bearing Faults Using Compressively Sampled Vibration Signals

Fault Diagnosis for Rolling Bearing of Combine Harvester Based on Composite-Scale-Variable Dispersion Entropy and Self-Optimization Variational Mode Decomposition Algorithm

Because of the influence of harsh and variable working environments, the vibration signals of rolling bearings for combine harvesters usually show obvious characteristics of strong non-stationarity and nonlinearity. Accomplishing accurate fault diagnosis using these signals for rolling bearings is a challenging subject. In this paper, a novel fault diagnosis method based on composite-scale-variable dispersion entropy (CSvDE) and self-optimization variational mode decomposition (SoVMD) is proposed, systematically combining the nonstationary signal analysis approach and machine learning technology. Firstly, an improved SoVMD algorithm is developed to realize adaptive parameter optimization and to further extract multiscale frequency components from original signals. Subsequently, a CSvDE-based feature learning model is established to generate the multiscale fault feature space (MsFFS) of frequency components for the improvement of fault feature learning ability. Finally, the generated MsFFS can serve as the inputs of the Softmax classifier for fault category identification. Extensive experiments on the vibration datasets collected from rolling bearings of combine harvesters are conducted, and the experimental results demonstrate the more superior and robust fault diagnosis performance of the proposed method compared to other existing approaches.

Performance of Bearing Ball Defect Classification Based on the Fusion of Selected Statistical Features

Among the existing bearing faults, ball ones are known to be the most difficult to detect and classify. In this work, we propose a diagnosis methodology for these incipient faults' classification using time series of vibration signals and their decomposition. Firstly, the vibration signals were decomposed using empirical mode decomposition (EMD). Time series of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) were then obtained. Through analysing the energy content and the components' sensitivity to the operating point variation, only the most relevant IMFs were retained. Secondly, a statistical analysis based on statistical moments and the Kullback-Leibler divergence (KLD) was computed allowing the extraction of the most relevant and sensitive features for the fault information. Thirdly, these features were used as inputs for the statistical clustering techniques to perform the classification. In the framework of this paper, the efficiency of several family of techniques were investigated and compared including linear, kernel-based nonlinear, systematic deterministic tree-based, and probabilistic techniques. The methodology's performance was evaluated through the training accuracy rate (TrA), testing accuracy rate (TsA), training time (Trt) and testing time (Tst). The diagnosis methodology has been applied to the Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) dataset. Using our proposed method, the initial EMD decomposition into eighteen IMFs was reduced to four and the most relevant features identified via the IMFs' variance and the KLD were extracted. Classification results showed that the linear classifiers were inefficient, and that kernel or data-mining classifiers achieved 100% classification rates through the feature fusion. For comparison purposes, our proposed method demonstrated a certain superiority over the multiscale permutation entropy. Finally, the results also showed that the training and testing times for all the classifiers were lower than 2 s, and 0.2 s, respectively, and thus compatible with real-time applications.

A Novel Fault Diagnosis Method of Rolling Bearing Based on Integrated Vision Transformer Model

In order to improve the diagnosis accuracy and generalization of bearing faults, an integrated vision transformer (ViT) model based on wavelet transform and the soft voting method is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) was utilized to decompose the vibration signal into the subsignals in the different frequency bands, and then these different subsignals were transformed into a time–frequency representation (TFR) map by the continuous wavelet transform (CWT) method. Secondly, the TFR maps were input with respective to the multiple individual ViT models for preliminary diagnosis analysis. Finally, the final diagnosis decision was obtained by using the soft voting method to fuse all the preliminary diagnosis results. Through multifaceted diagnosis tests of rolling bearings on different datasets, the diagnosis results demonstrate that the proposed integrated ViT model based on the soft voting method can diagnose the different fault categories and fault severities of bearings accurately, and has a higher diagnostic accuracy and generalization ability by comparison analysis with integrated CNN and individual ViT.
