Quantifying Risk Pathway Crosstalk Mediated by miRNA to Screen Precision drugs for Breast Cancer Patients

Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Cells (BMSCs) on Breast Cancer Cell Proliferation and Metastasis by Regulating Phosphatase and Tensin Homolog 12

Among the newly diagnosed cancers in women, breast cancer metastasis is a key factor contributing to the poor prognosis. BMSCs are critical components for the malignant microenvironment. Studies have shown that the interaction between tumor cells and BMSCs support breast cancer progression. However, BMSCs’ effect on breast cancer cells is not yet clear. BMSCs and breast cancer cell MCF-7 were co-cultured to analyze tumor cell proliferation and apoptosis along with analysis of E-cadherin and Vimentin expression by real-time PCR, interleukin-6 and matrix protease-2 and PTEN12 expression. Co-culture of BMSCs promoted breast cancer cell proliferation, decreased apoptosis-related Caspase 3 activity and downregulated the expression of EMT related factors, upregulated IL-6 secretion and MMP-2, and downregulated PTEN12 expression (P < 0.05). In conclusion, BMSCs can promote breast cancer cell proliferation and survival and affect breast cancer transformation possibly through inhibiting the expression of PTEN12.

Recent Advances in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Approaches for Breast Cancer: A Comprehensive Review

A silent monster, breast cancer, is a challenging medical task for researchers. Breast cancer is a leading cause of death in women with respect to other cancers. A case of breast cancer is diagnosed among women every 19 seconds, and every 74 seconds, a woman dies of breast cancer somewhere in the world. Several risk factors, such as genetic and environmental factors, favor breast cancer development. This review tends to provide deep insights regarding the genetics of breast cancer along with multiple diagnostic and therapeutic approaches as problem-solving negotiators to prevent the progression of breast cancer. This assembled data mainly aims to discuss omics-based approaches to provide enthralling diagnostic biomarkers and emerging novel therapies to combat breast cancer. This review article intends to pave a new path for the discovery of effective treatment options.

Pharmacogenomics and Personalized Medicine

Pharmacogenomics is one of the emerging approaches to precision medicine, tailoring drug selection and dosing to the patient’s genetic features. In recent years, several pharmacogenetic guidelines have been published by international scientific consortia, but the uptake in clinical practice is still poor. Many coordinated international efforts are ongoing in order to overcome the existing barriers to pharmacogenomic implementation. On the other hand, existing validated pharmacogenomic markers can explain only a minor part of the observed clinical variability in the therapeutic outcome. New investigational approaches are warranted, including the study of the pharmacogenomic role of the immune system genetics and of previously neglected rare genetic variants, reported to account for a large part of the inter-individual variability in drug metabolism. In this Special Issue, we collected a series of articles covering many aspects of pharmacogenomics. These include clinical implementation of pharmacogenomics in clinical practice, development of tools or infrastractures to support this process, research of new pharmacogenomics markers to increase drug efficacy and safety, and the impact of rare genetic variants in pharmacogenomics.
