Abstract
Peanut production could be increased through plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR). In this regard, the present field research aimed at elucidating the impact of PGPR on peanut yield, soil enzyme activity, microbial diversity, and structure. Three PGPR strains (Bacillus velezensis, RI3; Bacillus velezensis, SC6; Pseudomonas psychrophila, P10) were evaluated, along with Bradyrhizobium japonicum (BJ), taken as a control. PGPR increased seed yield by 8%, improving the radiation use efficiency (4-14%). PGPR modified soil enzymes (fluorescein diacetate activity by 17% and dehydrogenase activity by 28%) and microbial abundance (12%). However, PGPR did not significantly alter microbial diversity; nonetheless, it modified the relative abundance of key phyla (Actinobacteria > Proteobacteria > Firmicutes) and genera (Bacillus > Arthrobacter > Pseudomonas). PGPRs modified the relative abundance of genes associated with N-fixation and nitrification while increasing genes related to N-assimilation and N-availability. PGPR improved agronomic traits without altering rhizosphere diversity.

Abstract
Phosphorus (P), an essential macronutrient for various plant processes, is generally a limiting soil component for crop growth and yields. Organic and inorganic types of P are copious in soils, but their phyto-availability is limited as it is present largely in insoluble forms. Although phosphate fertilizers are applied in P-deficit soils, their undue use negatively impacts soil quality and the environment. Moreover, many P fertilizers are lost because of adsorption and fixation mechanisms, further reducing fertilizer efficiencies. The application of phosphate-solubilizing microorganisms (PSMs) is an environmentally friendly, low-budget, and biologically efficient method for sustainable agriculture without causing environmental hazards. These beneficial microorganisms are widely distributed in the rhizosphere and can hydrolyze inorganic and organic insoluble P substances to soluble P forms which are directly assimilated by plants. The present review summarizes and discusses our existing understanding related to various forms and sources of P in soils, the importance and P utilization by plants and microbes,, the diversification of PSMs along with mixed consortia of diverse PSMs including endophytic PSMs, the mechanism of P solubilization, and lastly constraints being faced in terms of production and adoption of PSMs on large scale have also been discussed.

Abstract
Soil potassium deficiency is a common issue limiting agricultural productivity. Potassium-solubilizing bacteria (KSB) show significant potential in mitigating soil potassium deficiency, improving soil quality, and enhancing plant growth. However, different KSB strains exhibit diverse solubilization mechanisms, environmental adaptability, and growth-promoting abilities. In this study, we isolated a multifunctional KSB strain ZHS-1, which also has phosphate-solubilizing and IAA-producing capabilities. 16S rDNA sequencing identified it as Pantoea vagans. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that strain ZHS-1 severely corroded the smooth, compact surface of potassium feldspar into a rough and loose state. The potassium solubilization reached 20.3 mg/L under conditions where maltose was the carbon source, sodium nitrate was the nitrogen source, and the pH was 7. Organic acid metabolism profiling revealed that strain ZHS-1 primarily utilized the EMP-TCA cycle, supplemented by pathways involving pantothenic acid, glyoxylic acid, and dicarboxylic acids, to produce large amounts of organic acids and energy. This solubilization was achieved through direct solubilization mechanisms. The strain also secreted IAA through a tryptophan-dependent metabolic pathway. When strain ZHS-1 was inoculated into the rhizosphere of rice, it demonstrated significant growth-promoting effects. The rice plants exhibited improved growth and root development, with increased accumulation of potassium and phosphorus. The levels of available phosphorus and potassium in the rhizosphere soil also increased significantly. Additionally, we observed a decrease in the relative abundance of Actinobacteria and Proteobacteria in the rice rhizosphere soil, while the relative abundance of genera associated with acid production and potassium solubilization, such as Gemmatimonadota, Acidobacteria, and Chloroflexi, as well as Cyanobacteria, which are beneficial to plant growth, increased. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the potassium solubilization mechanisms of strain ZHS-1 and highlight its potential as a plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria.

Abstract
Crop roots selectively recruit certain microbial taxa that are essential for supporting their growth. Within the recruited microbes, some taxa are consistently enriched in the rhizosphere across various locations and crop genotypes, while others are unique to specific planting sites or genotypes. Whether these differentially enriched taxa are different in community composition and how they interact with nutrient cycling need further investigation. Here, we sampled bulk soil and the rhizosphere soil of five soybean varieties grown in Shijiazhuang and Xuzhou, categorized the rhizosphere-enriched microbes into shared, site-specific, and variety-specific taxa, and analyzed their correlation with the diazotrophic communities and microbial genes involved in nitrogen (N) cycling. The shared taxa were dominated by Actinobacteria and Thaumarchaeota, the site-specific taxa were dominated by Actinobacteria in Shijiazhuang and by Nitrospirae in Xuzhou, while the variety-specific taxa were more evenly distributed in several phyla and contained many rare operational taxonomic units (OTUs). The rhizosphere-enriched taxa correlated with most diazotroph orders negatively but with eight orders including Rhizobiales positively. Each group within the shared, site-specific, and variety-specific taxa negatively correlated with bacterial amoA and narG in Shijiazhuang and positively correlated with archaeal amoA in Xuzhou. These results revealed that the shared, site-specific, and variety-specific taxa are distinct in community compositions but similar in associations with rhizosphere N-cycling functions. They exhibited potential in regulating the soybean roots' selection for high-efficiency diazotrophs and the ammonia-oxidizing and denitrification processes. This study provides new insights into soybean rhizosphere-enriched microbes and their association with N cycling. KEY POINTS: • Soybean rhizosphere affected diazotroph community and enriched nifH, amoA, and nosZ. • Shared and site- and variety-specific taxa were dominated by different phyla. • Rhizosphere-enriched taxa were similarly associated with N-cycle functions.

Abstract
Phosphorus (P) is an important nutrient for plants, and a lack of available P greatly limits plant growth and development. Phosphate-solubilizing microorganisms (PSMs) significantly enhance the ability of plants to absorb and utilize P, which is important for improving plant nutrient turnover and yield. This article summarizes and analyzes how PSMs promote the absorption and utilization of P nutrients by plants from four perspectives: the types and functions of PSMs, phosphate-solubilizing mechanisms, main functional genes, and the impact of complex inoculation of PSMs on plant P acquisition. This article reviews the physiological and molecular mechanisms of phosphorus solubilization and growth promotion by PSMs, with a focus on analyzing the impact of PSMs on soil microbial communities and its interaction with root exudates. In order to better understand the ability of PSMs and their role in soil P transformation and to provide prospects for research on PSMs promoting plant P absorption. PSMs mainly activate insoluble P through the secretion of organic acids, phosphatase production, and mycorrhizal symbiosis, mycorrhizal symbiosis indirectly activates P via carbon exchange. PSMs can secrete organic acids and produce phosphatase, which plays a crucial role in soil P cycling, and related genes are involved in regulating the P-solubilization ability. This article reviews the mechanisms by which microorganisms promote plant uptake of soil P, which is of great significance for a deeper understanding of PSM-mediated soil P cycling, plant P uptake and utilization, and for improving the efficiency of P utilization in agriculture.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE Grass-legume mixtures are a common practice for establishing artificial grasslands, directly or indirectly contributing to the improvement of yield. In addition, this method helps maintain soil and plant health by reducing the use of chemical fertilizers. The impact of grass-legume mixtures on yield and its underlying microbial mechanisms have been a focus of scientific investigation. However, the benefits of mixtures in the context of soil microbial diversity loss remain a problem worthy of exploration. In this study, we examined different aboveground and belowground diversity combinations to elucidate the mechanisms by which grass-legume mixtures help maintain stable yields in the face of diversity loss. We identified the significantly enriched Pseudomonas genus microbial ASV53, which was gathered through homogeneous selection and served as a keystone in the co-occurrence network. ASV53 showed a strong positive correlation with biomass and the abundance of nitrogen-fixing genes. These findings provide a new theoretical foundation for utilizing grass-legume mixtures to enhance grass yields and address the challenges posed by diversity loss.

Microorganisms are integral components of ecosystems, exerting profound impacts on various facets of human life. The recent United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Science Summit emphasized the critical importance of comprehending the microbial world to address global challenges, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In agriculture, microbes are pivotal contributors to food production, sustainable energy, and environmental bioremediation. However, decades of agricultural intensification have boosted crop yields at the expense of soil health and microbial diversity, jeopardizing global food security. To address this issue, a study in West Bengal, India, explored the potential of a novel multi-strain consortium of plant growth promoting (PGP) Bacillus spp. for soil bioaugmentation. These strains were sourced from the soil's native microbial flora, offering a sustainable approach. In this work, a composite inoculum of Bacillus zhangzhouensis MMAM, Bacillus cereus MMAM3), and Bacillus subtilis MMAM2 were introduced into an over-exploited agricultural soil and implications on the improvement of vegetative growth and yield related traits of Gylcine max (L) Meril. plants were evaluated, growing them as model plant, in pot trial condition. The study's findings demonstrated significant improvements in plant growth and soil microbial diversity when using the bacterial consortium in conjunction with vermicompost. Metagenomic analyses revealed increased abundance of many functional genera and metabolic pathways in consortium-inoculated soil, indicating enhanced soil biological health. This innovative bioaugmentation strategy to upgrade the over-used agricultural soil through introduction of residual PGP bacterial members as consortia, presents a promising path forward for sustainable agriculture. The rejuvenated patches of over-used land can be used by the small and marginal farmers for cultivation of resilient crops like soybean. Recognizing the significance of multi-strain PGP bacterial consortia as potential bioinoculants, such technology can bolster food security, enhance agricultural productivity, and mitigate the adverse effects of past agricultural activities.

Abstract
Phosphorus is an essential nutrient for all life on earth and has a major impact on plant growth and crop yield. The forms of phosphorus that can be directly absorbed and utilized by plants are mainly HPO42- and H2PO4-, which are known as usable phosphorus. At present, the total phosphorus content of soils worldwide is 400-1000 mg/kg, of which only 1.00-2.50% is plant-available, which seriously affects the growth of plants and the development of agriculture, resulting in a high level of total phosphorus in soils and a scarcity of available phosphorus. Traditional methods of applying phosphorus fertilizer cannot address phosphorus deficiency problems; they harm the environment and the ore material is a nonrenewable natural resource. Therefore, it is imperative to find alternative environmentally compatible and economically viable strategies to address phosphorus scarcity. Phosphorus-solubilizing bacteria (PSB) can convert insoluble phosphorus in the soil into usable phosphorus that can be directly absorbed by plants, thus improving the uptake and utilization of phosphorus by plants. However, there is no clear and systematic report on the mechanism of action of PSB. Therefore, this paper summarizes the discovery process, species, and distribution of PSB, focusing on the physiological mechanisms outlining the processes of acidolysis, enzymolysis, chelation and complexation reactions of PSB. The related genes regulating PSB acidolysis and enzymatic action as well as genes related to phosphate transport and the molecular direction mechanism of its pathway are examined. The effects of PSB on the structure and abundance of microbial communities in soil are also described, illustrating the mechanism of how PSB interact with microorganisms in soil and indirectly increase the amount of available phosphorus in soil. And three perspectives are considered in further exploring the PSB mechanism in utilizing a synergistic multi-omics approach, exploring PSB-related regulatory genes in different phosphorus levels and investigating the application of PSB as a microbial fungicide. This paper aims to provide theoretical support for improving the utilization of soil insoluble phosphorus and providing optimal management of elemental phosphorus in the future.

Abstract
Due to its nutritional value and oil, soybean (Glycine max L.) became an economic crop in India and worldwide. The current study investigated the effect of forest-associated plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) on soybean yield and grain nutrient content. Five potential bacteria were used in this study based on their PGPR traits. The pot assay result with two crops (soybean and chickpea) confirmed the growth promotion activity of the two strains (Bacillus subtilis MpS15 and Paraburkholderia sabiae NvS21). The result showed significant (p < 0.05) enhancement in plant length and biomass with the seed treatment with strains (MpS15 and NvS21) compared to the control. Later both biocompatible potential strains were used in field experiments as individuals and consortia. Seed treatment of consortia significantly improves the nodulation and photosynthetic content more than individual treatments and control. Compared to the control, the co-inoculation of MpS15 and NvS21 increased soybean grain, straw yield, and grain NPK contents. Interestingly, soil parameters (organic carbon, available NPK) showed a strong correlation (p < 0.05) with plant parameters and nutrient uptake. Overall, our study provides strong relationships between soil parameters, microbial inoculum as consortia, and soybean performance, and these strains may be utilized as bioinoculant in future.

Abstract
Agriculture-related manufactured nano-objects (MNOs) can revolutionize the crop production and help to achieve sustainable development goals. MNOs with diverse physico-chemical properties and ability to encapsulate and deliver active ingredients in controlled, targeted and stimuli responsive manner can enhance the efficiency while minimizing collateral damage to non-target organisms and environment. Application of MNOs in the form of nanopesticides and nanofertilizers is known to affect soil microbial communities both positively and negatively, but detailed studies with varying dose, type and environmental conditions are scarce. Therefore, it is imperative to understand the complex mechanisms and factors which shape the MNOs-microbial interactions through integrating state of the art technologies including omics (transcriptomics, metabolomics, and proteomics), artificial intelligence, and statistical frameworks. Lastly, we propose the idea of MNOs-mediated manipulation of soil microbiome to modify the soil microbial communities for improved microbial services. These microbial services, if harnessed appropriately, can revolutionize modern agriculture and help in achieving sustainable development goals.
