Abstract
BACKGROUND We aimed to investigate the relevant predictors in the association between the functional status and the consequences of the persistence of scars in patients with traumatic versus non-traumatic coxarthrosis after total hip arthroplasty (THA). METHODS A total of 203 patients undergoing THA after traumatic or non-traumatic coxarthrosis were asked to complete the Mekeres' Psychosocial Internalization Scale (MPIS), in which they self-evaluated on a Likert scale (between one and five) by selecting the rating that corresponded to their personal opinion and the activities of daily living (ADL) form at six months postoperative. The statistical data were processed using the IBM SPSS Statistics software version 22.0 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY). A combined assessment of the internalization of scars using MPIS and ADL forms after THA allowed for the identification of relevant predictors of the quality of life six months post-surgery in patients with traumatic or non-traumatic coxarthrosis. RESULTS Depending on the coxarthrosis etiology (traumatic or non-traumatic), the results were further processed by a univariate ANOVA, considering the independent variables represented by symptoms, the number of surgical procedures, and the postoperative evolution, which are acting on the outcomes of physical functioning (the dependent variable) in the postoperative phase. In the case of the traumatic group, our results suggest that the number of surgical interventions, the ability to internalize scars, and autonomy in terms of body care are predictors of the quality of life. In patients with non-traumatic coxarthrosis, an important role in predicting quality of life is played by the administered treatment and the ability to maintain their autonomy regarding self-hygiene six months post-surgery. CONCLUSIONS The predictive regression equation suggests that the quality of life in patients with traumatic coxarthrosis can be predicted by the number of surgical interventions, the administered treatment, the ability to internalize scars, and the autonomy regarding body care activities. On the other hand, for patients with non-traumatic coxarthrosis, an important role in predicting the quality of life is played by the treatment and the ability to maintain autonomy in terms of body hygiene activities.

Abstract
This chapter highlights the importance of a comprehensive burn scar treatment plan in approaching a burn survivor. General concepts of burn scar physiology and a practical system to describe burn scars based on cause, biology, and symptoms are presented. Common scar management modalities including nonsurgical, surgical, and adjuvant therapies are further discussed.

Abstract
BackgroundScars are a natural consequence of the healing process, but with an impact on the psychological and social level for the individual, which can even lead to withdrawal and social stigmatization. We aimed to analyze the psychosocial impact determined by post-traumatic scars, using psychometric scales, to assess the effectiveness of the Mekereș’ Psychosocial Internalization Scale (MPIS), and to identify relevant predictors of traumatic and surgical scar internalization.MethodsOur cohort included 293 participants, 149 women and 144 men, aged 18–64 years who were screened for scar characteristics and completed a set of psychological scales. We compared the results obtained in two subgroups: 153 subjects with posttraumatic scars and 140 with surgical scars.ResultsRelevant predictors for posttraumatic scar internalization (R2 = 0.721) are adaptation time, age of the occurrence and subjective appraisal, while for the depression, and hopelessness relevant predictors are the subjective appraisal of the scars and the posttraumatic quality of life.ConclusionThe psychological and social reporting of the aftermath of trauma, that has been followed by scar-ring, is an indicator of how a person will react and could indicate the susceptibility to psycho-pathology.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Scars affect patients after trauma, burns, or surgical procedures and can generate both physical and psychosocial changes. The aesthetic damage represents the modification of a person's physical appearance, in its bodily integrity, causing numerous sufferings and determining social or economic consequences. The aim of this research is to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages offered by the available psychosocial and physical scar scales in assessing the physical, aesthetic, psychosocial, and juridical consequences of scars. This will aid to inform medical examiners about the most valued existing scales to allow them to select the most appropriate instrument to manage their patient. METHODS A broad search of relevant scientific studies on the psychosocial determinants of post-traumatic and surgical scars was conducted by using the following international database tools: PsycINFO, MedLine Social Science Index, Scopus, Web of Science, published from 1960 until 2022. RESULTS We analyzed 63 scientific studies to assess the advantages and limits of several psychometric and physical scar evaluation scales. CONCLUSIONS The researchers analyzed in this review highlight the advantages and limitation of existing instruments, evidencing the demand for future scar evaluation instruments and a scar-assessing algorithm that takes into account the physical, aesthetic, psychosocial, and legal consequences of scars.

Abstract
(1) Background: Vertebro-medullary trauma (VMT) causes osteo-articular injuries in a varied anatomical lesion associated with multiple clinical manifestations and therapeutic indications. The neurological evaluation of patients who have suffered a spinal cord injury (SCI) is costly in testing the motor and sensory function. To standardize the assessment, several scales are used that measure the neurological deficit in order to guide subsequent treatment according to complete or incomplete SCI. The aim of this study is to identify and present the relevant tools for assessing SCI. (2) Methods: Relevant SCI studies were used for a fact-finding investigation from a rational and critical perspective of this field of research. The relationship between clinical tools and those with a psychosocial component was assessed based on studies reported in the literature. (3) Results: SCI severity scales have been proposed throughout to be able to estimate the functional prognosis of victims of these traumatic events. These tools can be divided into scales for assessing the neurological deficit due to trauma, and functional scales that assess the ability to perform daily activities, self-care, etc. (4) Conclusions: The closest scale to the need for standardization and the most accurate assessment of neurological deficits secondary to SCI is ASIA/IMSOP.

Analysis of Social Support as an Argument for the Sustainable Construction of the European Community Space. SUSTAINABILITY 2022. Abstract
Cohesion policy is a constant and central area of interest across the European Union. The development and success of European society depends on the social and economic cohesion at the level of all member states. Starting from this assumption, our study will focus on the interdependence between social cohesion and social support, the latter being interpreted and analysed as a means whereby social cohesion may be achieved. Thus, understanding the manifestations of community cohesion at the level of the European communities is an essential element in this investigation, while its main purpose is to build an explanatory model for interpreting social support. Based on such a framework, social cohesion may be analysed and understood. The following measurement scales will be applied to the analysis of social support: the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, the Survey of Recent Life Experiences, and the Satisfaction with Life Scale. The source of the information is a non-random sample of 1364 respondents. Data processing is based on the implementation of structural equation modelling (SEM) in order to explore the key factors that influence the perception of social support. As mentioned previously, we plan to build an explanatory model that links the perception of social support with life satisfaction and the disturbing factors that are the outcome of life experiences. A set of comparisons is also made using the independent t test and one-way ANOVA. The perception of social support is interpreted from the perspective of the occupational situation, the age category, the educational level and the marital status of respondents. The variables included in the study generally satisfied the goodness of fit indexes in accordance with the recommendations of the literature on SEM models. The conclusions of the study show that social support is at the core of community integration and one of the determinant elements of social cohesion. Everyday life events condition the perception of social support. In turn, the perception of social support acts on life satisfaction. It has been observed that a higher perception of social support may be associated with greater cohesion at the level of communities and also with a more stable social environment. We have identified a determining relationship between the perceived social support and the degree of social cohesion.
