Abstract
BACKGROUND The use of herbal medicine and/or its products is common throughout the world. In Tamale Metropolis, pregnant women frequently use local oxytocin to induce labour, as shown by the fact that 90% of midwives reported managing patients who used kaligutim (local oxytocin) to speed up labour. Early career midwives are also aware of this and have personally observed it being used by their clients. The purpose of the study was to assess midwives' opinions on pregnant women's use of the well-known kaligutim (local oxytocin) for labour induction in the Tamale Metropolis. METHODS A facility-based, quantitative, cross-sectional research design was used for the study. A total of 214 working midwives from Tamale's three main public hospitals participated. Data for the study were gathered through a standardized questionnaire. For the analysis and presentation of the data, descriptive and analytical statistics, such as basic frequencies, percentages, Fisher's exact test, chi square test and multivariate analysis, were employed. RESULTS According to the findings of this study, the safety, dosages, and contraindications of kaligutim during pregnancy and labour are unknown. The cessation of contractions was reported by 44 (22.4%) of the respondents whose clients used local oxytocin. The study also revealed that women in Tamale metropolis use "walgu", a spiritual form of oxytocin, to induce and augment labour. Respondents who responded, "yes" to baby admission to the new-born care unit were 25% more likely to use kaligutim (local oxytocin) than were those who responded, "no" to baby admission to the new-born care unit (AOR = 0.25 95% CI (0.01, 0.53), P = 0.021). CONCLUSIONS It can be concluded that using kaligutim to start labour has negative effects on both the mother and the foetus. Additional research is required to evaluate the efficacy, effectiveness, biochemical makeup, and safety of these herbal medicines, particularly during pregnancy and delivery, as well as the spiritual significance of kaligutim (Walgu) and its forms.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Synthetic oxytocin is one of the most regularly administered medications to facilitate labor induction and augmentation. The present study examined the associations between oxytocin administration during childbirth and postpartum posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS). MATERIALS AND METHODS In a multicenter longitudinal study, women completed questionnaires during pregnancy and at 2 months postpartum ( N = 386). PTSS were assessed with the Impact of Event Scale. Logistic regression was used to examine the difference in PTSS at Time 2 between women who received oxytocin and women who did not. RESULTS In comparison with women who did not receive oxytocin, women who received oxytocin induction were 3.20 times as likely to report substantial PTSS ( P = .036, 95% confidence interval: 1.08-9.52), and women who received oxytocin augmentation were 3.29 times as likely to report substantial PTSS ( P = .036, 95% confidence interval: 1.08-10.03), after controlling for being primiparous, preeclampsia, prior mental health diagnosis, mode of birth, postpartum hemorrhage, and satisfaction with staff. DISCUSSION Oxytocin administration was associated with a 3-fold increased risk of PTSS. The findings may reflect biological and psychological mechanisms related to postpartum mental health and call for future research to establish the causation of this relationship.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Adverse neonatal outcomes are one of the most common causes of neonatal mortality and morbidity. Empirical evidence across the world shows that induction of labor potentiates adverse neonatal outcomes. In Ethiopia, there has been limited data that compares the frequency of adverse neonatal outcomes between induced and spontaneous labor. OBJECTIVES To compare the prevalence of adverse neonatal outcomes between induced and spontaneous labor and to determine associated factors among women who gave birth in public hospitals of Awi Zone, Northwest Ethiopia. METHODS A comparative cross-sectional study was conducted at Awi Zone public hospitals from May 1 to June 30, 2022. A simple random sampling technique was employed to select 788 (260 induced and 528 spontaneous) women. The collected data were analyzed using statistical package for social science (SPSS) software version 26. The Chi-square test and an independent t-test were used for categorical and continuous variables, respectively. A binary logistic regression was used to assess the association between the outcome and explanatory variables. In the bivariate analysis, a p-value ≤ 0.2 at a 95% confidence interval was used to consider the variables in the multivariate analysis. Finally, statistical significance was stated at a p-value of less than 0.05. RESULT The adverse neonatal outcomes among women who gave birth through induced labor were 41.1%, whereas spontaneous labor was 10.3%. The odds of adverse neonatal outcomes in induced labor were nearly two times higher than in spontaneous labor (AOR = 1.89, 95% CI: 1.11-3.22). No education (AOR = 2.00, 95% CI: 1.56, 6.44), chronic disease (AOR = 3.99, 95% CI: 1.87, 8.52), male involvement (AOR = 2.23, 95% CI: 1.23, 4.06), preterm birth (AOR = 9.83, 95% CI: 8.74, 76.37), operative delivery (AOR = 8.60, 95% CI: 4.63, 15.90), cesarean section (AOR = 4.17, 95% CI: 1.94, 8.95), and labor complications (AOR = 5.16, 95% CI: 2.90, 9.18) were significantly associated factors with adverse neonatal outcomes. CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION Adverse neonatal outcomes in the study area were higher. Composite adverse neonatal outcomes were significantly higher in induced labor compared to spontaneous labor. Therefore, it is important to anticipate the possible adverse neonatal outcomes and plan management strategies while conducting every labor induction.

Abstract
The past 20 years witnessed an invigoration of research on labor progression and a change of thinking regarding normal labor. New evidence is emerging, and more advanced statistical methods are applied to labor progression analyses. Given the wide variations in the onset of active labor and the pattern of labor progression, there is an emerging consensus that the definition of abnormal labor may not be related to an idealized or average labor curve. Alternative approaches to guide labor management have been proposed; for example, using an upper limit of a distribution of labor duration to define abnormally slow labor. Nonetheless, the methods of labor assessment are still primitive and subject to error; more objective measures and more advanced instruments are needed to identify the onset of active labor, monitor labor progression, and define when labor duration is associated with maternal/child risk. Cervical dilation alone may be insufficient to define active labor, and incorporating more physical and biochemical measures may improve accuracy of diagnosing active labor onset and progression. Because the association between duration of labor and perinatal outcomes is rather complex and influenced by various underlying and iatrogenic conditions, future research must carefully explore how to integrate statistical cut-points with clinical outcomes to reach a practical definition of labor abnormalities. Finally, research regarding the complex labor process may benefit from new approaches, such as machine learning technologies and artificial intelligence to improve the predictability of successful vaginal delivery with normal perinatal outcomes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore and synthesise women's views and experiences of augmentation of labour with synthetic oxytocin infusion. DESIGN A qualitative evidence synthesis was conducted. The SPIDER acronym was used to develop the search terms and determine the inclusion criteria. Six bibliographic databases: MEDLINE, CINAHL, EMBASE, PsycINFO, Maternity and Infant Care and Web of Science Core Collection were searched in October 2021. Grey literature sources, EThOS, DART-Europe, and the World Health Organization's Clinical Trials Registry were searched, and reference lists of included studies were reviewed. Methodological quality of included studies was assessed using the Evidence for Policy and Practice Information and Co-ordinating (EPPI) Centre assessment tool. Data were synthesised thematically. The confidence of each review finding was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation-Confidence in the Evidence from Reviews of Qualitative research (GRADE-CERQual). Research ethical approval was not required. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS Women of any age, parity, and cultural background who underwent augmentation of labour with synthetic oxytocin infusion were included. FINDINGS A total of 9306 citations were retrieved. Twenty-five studies conducted across 14 countries met the inclusion criteria and contributed data. Three principal analytical themes emerged: feeling stuck; past and present shaping the future; and cause and effect of augmentation of labour. The decision to augment women's labour was often performed without their informed consent. Women's views and experiences of augmentation of labour were shaped according to their knowledge, beliefs and support received during labour. Irrespective of the context, women consistently associated augmentation of labour with pain. KEY CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Clinical guidelines on augmentation of labour need to be informed by research that includes women's views and experiences as a main outcome. Future research exploring the experience of augmentation of labour rather than the experience of labour dystocia would be beneficial. Increasing women's awareness and knowledge of augmentation of labour may help to ensure that their informed consent is obtained. Healthcare providers should discuss the effects, side effects and implications of augmentation of labour with women, ideally before labour.

Cohort Study Summary of the Effects of Carboprost Tromethamine Combined with Oxytocin on Infant Outcome, Postpartum Hemorrhage and Uterine Involution of Parturients Undergoing Cesarean Section. Abstract
Background Carboprost tromethamine injection has a high safety factor in clinical application and has a good effect on uterine smooth muscle and vasoconstriction. Carboprost aminobutyriol combined with oxytocin may be beneficial to infant outcome and uterine involution after cesarean section. Objective To investigate the effects of carboprost tromethamine combined with oxytocin on infant outcome, postpartum hemorrhage, and uterine involution in parturients undergoing cesarean section. Methods A total of 120 parturients undergone cesarean section in our hospital from February 2019 to April 2021 were selected as the object of study. The parturients were randomly divided into control group (n = 60) and research group (n = 60). The control group was treated with oxytocin, and the research group was treated with carboprost aminobutyriol combined with oxytocin. The amount of maternal bleeding, uterine floor decline index, the end of lochia, poor rate of uterine involution, infant outcome, and the incidence of adverse drug reactions were compared between the two groups. Results The amount of bleeding in the research group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). The position of the last uterine floor and the index of uterine floor downward movement in the research group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The disappearance time of bloody lochia and serous lochia in the research group was significantly shorter than that in the control group (P < 0.05). The end time of lochia in the research group was higher than that in the control group, and the rate of uterine involution in the research group was lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). The neonatal weight and Apgar score in the research group were higher than those in the control group, and the hospitalization rate of neonatal ICU in the research group was significantly lower than that in the control group. The incidence of adverse reactions in the research group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion Carboprost aminobutyriol combined with carbestatin can effectively prevent the occurrence of bleeding after cesarean section, improve uterine involution, and improve neonatal birth quality, which is worth popularizing.

Abstract
The WHO (World Health Organization) recommends that the percentage of perineal incisions should not exceed 10%, indicating that this is a good goal to achieve, despite the fact that it is still a frequently used medical intervention in Poland. The risk factors for perineal incision that have been analyzed so far in the literature allow, among others, to limit the frequency of performing this procedure. Are they still valid? Have there been new risk factors that we should take into account? We have conducted this study to find the risk factors for performing perineal incision that would reduce the frequency of this procedure. The aim of the study was to check whether the risk factors that were analyzed in the literature are still valid, to find new risk factors for perineal incisions and to compare them among Polish women. This was a single-center retrospective case-control study. The electronic patient records of Saint Sophia's Hospital in Warsaw, Poland, a tertiary hospital was used to create an anonymous retrospective database of all deliveries from 2015 to 2020. The study included the analysis of two groups, the study group of patients who had had an episiotomy, and the control group-patients without an episiotomy in cases where an episiotomy was indicated. A logistic regression model was developed to assess the risk factors for perineal laceration. Independent risk factors for episiotomy in labor include oxytocin use in the second stage of labor (OR (Odds Ratio) = 6.00; 95% CI (Confidence Interval): 4.76-7.58), the supply of oxytocin in the first and the second stage of labor (OR = 3.18; 95% CI: 2.90-3.49), oxytocin use in the first stage of labor (OR = 2.72; 95% CI: 2.52-3.51), state after cesarean section (OR = 2.97; 95% CI: 2.52-3.51), epidural anesthesia use (OR = 1.77; 95% CI: 1.62-1.93), male gender (OR = 1.10; 95% CI: 1.02-1.19), and prolonged second stage of labor (OR = 1.01; 95% CI: 1.01-1.01). A protective factor against the use of an episiotomy was delivery in the Birth Centre (OR = 0.43; 95% CI: 0.37-0.51) and mulitpara (OR = 0.31; 95% CI: 0.27-0.35). To reduce the frequency of an episiotomy, it is necessary consider the risk factors of performing this procedure in everyday practice, e.g., limiting the use of oxytocin or promoting alternative places of delivery.
