Abstract
BACKGROUND This study investigated the current status of the quality of life (QOL) of drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) patients in Nanjing, China, and analyzed the influencing factors. METHODS The survey was conducted among patients with DR-TB who were hospitalized in the tuberculosis department of the Second Hospital of Nanjing (Nanjing Public Health Medical Center) from July 2022 to May 2023. The Chinese version of the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF) questionnaire was used to investigate the QOL levels of patients with DR-TB, and a multiple linear regression model was used to analyze the QOL influencing factors. RESULTS A total of 135 patients participated in the study; 69.6% were male, the average age was 46.30 ± 17.98 years, 13.33% had an education level of elementary school or below, and 75.56% were married. The QOL scores were 51.35 ± 17.24, 47.04 ± 20.28, 43.89 ± 17.96, and 35.00 ± 11.57 in the physiological, psychological, social, and environmental domains, respectively. The differences between the four domain scores and the Chinese normative results were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that the factors related to the physiological domain included residence, family per-capita monthly income, payment method, adverse drug reactions (ADRs), and comorbidities; psychological domain correlates included educational level, family per-capita monthly income, course of the disease, and caregivers; social domain correlates included age and comorbidities; and factors related to the environmental domain included age, education level, and comorbidities. CONCLUSIONS In Nanjing, China, patients with younger age, higher education level, living in urban areas, high family per-capita monthly income, no adverse drug reactions, no comorbidities, and having caregivers have better quality of life. Future interventions to improve the quality of life of patients with drug-resistant tuberculosis could be tailored to a specific factor.

Abstract
Oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) stands as a progressive oral ailment, designated as a potentially malignant disorder. OSF has gained widespread recognition as a significant precursor to malignant transformation. In the pursuit of dependable, straightforward, and non-invasive diagnostic measures for the early detection of oral malignant progression, research has delved into potential diagnostic biomarkers of OSF. This comprehensive review delves into current investigations that explore the correlation between various biomarkers and OSF. The molecular biomarkers of OSF are categorized based on cytology and sampling methods. Moreover, this review encompasses pertinent studies detailing how these biomarkers are acquired and processed. Within this scope, we scrutinize four potential biomarkers that hold the promise of facilitating the development of diagnostic tools for detecting early-stage OSF.

Abstract
BACKGROUND At present, the role of medication adherence in the association between depressive symptoms and quality of life (QOL) in older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) was unclear. The purpose of this study was to explore the associations among depressive symptoms, medication adherence and QOL in older adults with T2DM. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, 300 older adults with T2DM from the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University were enrolled. Among them, 115 patients had depressive symptoms and 185 had no depressive symptoms. Univariate linear regression analysis was conducted to identify possible covariates. Univariate and multivariable linear regression analyses were performed to explore the associations between depressive symptoms and medication adherence or QOL in older adults with T2DM. Multiplicative interaction analysis was evaluated whether there was interaction effect between medication adherence and depressive symptoms on QOL of patients. Mediating effect analysis was used to analyze the medication effect of medication adherence on depressive symptoms and QOL in older adults with T2DM. RESULTS Decreased medication adherence was observed in patients with depressive symptoms (β = -0.67, 95%CI: -1.10, -0.24) after adjusting for covariates. Depressive symptoms were associated with decreased QOL in older adults with T2DM (β = -5.99, 95%CI: -7.56, -4.42). The mediating analysis revealed that depressive symptoms were associated with decreased medication adherence (β = -0.67, 95%CI: -1.09, -0.25). Medication adherence was linked with increased QOL of older adults with T2DM (β = 0.65, 95%CI: 0.24, 1.06). Depressive symptoms were correlated with decreased QOL of older adults with T2DM (β = -5.56, 95%CI: -7.10, -4.01). The percentage mediated by medication adherence on depressive symptoms and QOL in older adults with T2DM was 10.61%. CONCLUSION Medication adherence might mediate depressive symptoms and QOL of older adults with T2DM, which might provide a reference for the improvement of QOL of these patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Betel quid (BQ) chewing is associated with poor oral hygiene, psychological impairment, and acute and long-term addictive effects, resulting in worse oral-related quality of life (OHRQoL). The purpose of this study was to characterize the factors associated with OHRQoL among BQ users receiving oral mucosal screening. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted. Data were collected by random sampling of BQ users who visited outpatient departments receiving oral mucosal screening in a medical center Taiwan. The oral health assessment tool, the state anxiety inventory, the betel quid dependence scale, and the oral health impact profile were used to measure oral health status, anxiety, BQ dependence, and OHRQoL, respectively. Pearson's product-moment coefficient was used to examine the relationship between OHRQoL and the selected independent variables. Independent-samples t-test was used to compare OHRQoL by annual family income, the presence of chronic disease, and BQ dependence. Hierarchical multiple linear regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with OHRQoL. RESULTS A total of 175 BQ users were surveyed. Factors associated with OHRQoL included oral health status, anxiety, and BQ dependence. BQ users reporting low oral health status, greater anxiety, and more BQ dependence were more likely to have worse OHRQoL. CONCLUSIONS Poor oral health status, anxiety, and BQ dependence negatively impact on OHRQoL among patients with BQ use receiving oral mucosal screening.

Abstract
Background
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), quality of life is “an individual’s perception of their position in life in the context of the culture and value systems in which they live, and in relation to their goals, expectations, standards, and concerns. Researchers have conceptualized quality of life on many levels, and there are multiple views on how it should be defined and measured. Chronic diseases like diabetes mellitus are known to compromise the HRQoL. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease known to affect HRQoL adversely. Two types of tools have been developed to measure HRQoL. Generic tools are general purpose measures used to assess HRQoL of communities and also for comparison between populations. The EQ-5D-5L consists of two pages—the EQ-5D-5L descriptive system and the EQ visual analog scale (EQ VAS). The descriptive system comprises the five dimensions (mobility, self-care, usual activities, pain/discomfort, anxiety/depression).
Objectives
Assess of quality of life in elderly patients of type 2 diabetes mellitus as well as determine effects of factors related to diabetes and diabetic control on the quality of life of type 2 diabetes.
Methods
- Population of study and disease condition:
◦ A total of 60 participants were enrolled in this study, and all of the participants were among the geriatric group of people (age ≥ 60 years old).
◦ Thirty of them self-reported to have diabetes mellitus type 2, while the other 30 subjects were a control group (self-reported no to have diabetes mellitus).
◦ All participants were subjected to careful history taking, full clinical examination, in addition to laboratory investigation in the form of HBA1C.
◦ All participants had to fill in self-reported questionnaire which is used as a tool for the assessment of HRQOL named EQ-5D-5L (some patients were illiterate so the questionnaire was interviewed to them).
◦ All participants underwent interview questionnaires of the following HRQOL scales: geriatrics depression scale, ADL (activities of daily living scale), and IADL (instrumental activities of daily living scale).
Results
EQ-5D-5L score is significantly higher in diabetic patients than non-diabetics (p value < 0.001).
EQ VAS score is significantly lower in diabetic patients than non-diabetics (p value < 0.001).
ADL (activities of daily living) functional assessment impairment is higher in diabetics than non-diabetics (p value < 0.001).
IADL (independence in activities of daily living) functional assessment impairment is higher in diabetics than non-diabetics (p value < 0.001).
Visual prop is impaired in diabetics more than non-diabetics (p value < 0.001).
Pain severity is mainly affected in diabetics more than non-diabetics.
Conclusion
Type 2 diabetes mellitus in elderly patients affects their health-related quality of life and their daily activities.
In our study, the HRQOL of uncontrolled diabetic patients were more negatively affected than that of the controlled diabetic patients.
Moreover, some of our diabetic patients were found to suffer from cognitive disorders (insomnia and depression) as a complication of diabetes.
We also found that the EQ-5D-5L of diabetic patients with comorbidities was higher than those without comorbidities and EQ-VAS was lower in comorbid diabetic patients.

Abstract
Background Tuberculosis is a chronic infectious disease that can affect the quality of life of persons living with tuberculosis in resource-limited settings. There is a dearth of research on the quality of life of persons living with tuberculosis within Greater Accra, Ghana. Purpose This study investigated the quality of life and its related factors among persons living with tuberculosis in the Greater Accra region of Ghana. Methods This descriptive cross-sectional survey assessed the physical, psychological, social relationship and environmental quality of life of 250 persons living with tuberculosis in four public health facilities using the World Health Organization's Quality of Life Brief Questionnaire instrument. Results Respondents' mean (standard deviation) physical, psychological, social relationship and environmental health-related quality of life domain scores were 46.19 (21.27), 50.67 (23.95), 40.9 (21.74) and 51.91 (20.13) respectively out of 100. Sociodemographic factors which influenced all four quality of life domains were their marital and employment statuses. Respondents' site of TB infection (pulmonary or extrapulmonary) and phase of treatment influenced their physical, psychological and social domains. Other determinants of the quality of life were their sex, highest level of education and average monthly income. Conclusions The quality of life of persons living with tuberculosis was found to be poor and influenced by the patients' socioeconomic status. Strategies that identify and address any deterioration in the quality of life of persons living with TB are required throughout their management.

Abstract
University student life is an important transformation stage with many potential factors that can impact negatively on the Quality of Life (QOL) and the adoption of unhealthy behaviors. Health literacy (HL), Health Behaviors (HBs), and Body Mass Index (BMI) have been found to be essential components in influencing QOL, in addition to socioeconomic determinants. To identify the influential factors of QOL, we performed a cross-sectional survey in a university, and 955 undergraduate students were enrolled as respondents. We measured two different aspects of HL, i.e., Comprehensive Health Literacy (CHL) and Functional Health Literacy (FHL). Overall, QOL scores in four domains did not differ, regarded as medium with averages ranging from 57.00–63.98, and no significant difference between male and female students. In multivariate analysis, CHL had a significant positive influence on all domains, while FHL only affected the psychological and environmental domains with negative associations. Academic performance had a significant positive association with physical and psychological domains. Students from education majors had higher QOL in the psychological and social domains. Moreover, students with normal or underweight BMI status had better psychological QOL, and physical exercise had a positive association with the social relationship and environmental domains. The findings confirmed that CHL and FHL had significant associations with QOL domains in different ways that should be addressed accordingly. Public health practitioners should carefully empower students to use both CHL and FHL as decision-making skills by incorporating them into related curricula.
