Determination of Diosmin in Pharmaceutical Products with Chemically Modified Voltammetric Sensors

Quantitative Determination of Diosmin in Tablets by Infrared and Raman Spectroscopy

Diosmin is widely used in the treatment of chronic venous diseases and hemorrhoids. Based on Raman and infrared reflection spectra of powdered tablets in the mid- and near-infrared regions and results of reference high-performance liquid chromatographic analysis, partial least squares models that enable fast and reliable quantification of the studied active ingredient in tablets, without the need for extraction, were elaborated. Eight commercial preparations containing diosmin in the 66-92% (w/w) range were analyzed. In order to assess and compare the quality of the developed chemometric models, the relative standard errors of prediction for calibration and validation sets were calculated. We found these errors to be in the 1.0-2.4% range for the three spectroscopic techniques used. Diosmin content in the analyzed preparations was obtained with recoveries in the 99.5-100.5% range.

Recent applications of organic molecule-based framework porous materials in solid-phase microextraction for pharmaceutical analysis

Sample preparation is an indispensable part of detection of complex samples in pharmaceutical analysis. Solid-phase microextraction (SPME) has obtained a lot of attention due to its advantages of time saving, less solvent and easily automation. A variety of functional materials are used as sorbents in SPME to carry out selective and high extraction. This review centers around the recent applications of organic molecule-based framework porous materials, such as metal organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs), as SPME coating materials mainly focus on pharmaceutical analysis in food, environment, and biological samples. Four representative extraction devices are introduced, including on-fiber SPME, in-tube SPME, thin film SPME, stir bar SPME. The application prospect of other organic porous materials as sorbents for pharmaceutical analysis are also discussed, such as hyper crosslinked polymers (HCPs) and conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs). The progresses and discusses are provided to offer references for further research focusing on application and development of organic molecule-based framework porous materials in the field of SPME.

Sensitive Detection of Hydroxytyrosol in Extra Virgin Olive Oils with a Novel Biosensor Based on Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes and Tyrosinase

Hydroxytyrosol (HT) is an important marker for the authenticity and quality assessment of extra virgin olive oils (EVOO). The aim of the study was the qualitative and quantitative determination of hydroxytyrosol in commercial extra virgin olive oils of different origins and varieties using a newly developed biosensor based on a screen-printed electrode modified with single-layer carbon nanotubes and tyrosinase (SPE-SWCNT-Ty). The enzyme was immobilized on a carbon-based screen-printed electrode previously modified with single-layer carbon nanotubes (SPE-SWCNT-Ty) by the drop-and-dry method, followed by cross-linking with glutaraldehyde. The modified electrode surface was characterized by different methods, including electrochemical (cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)) and spectrometric (Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy) methods. Cyclic voltammetry was used for the quantitative determination of HT, obtaining a detection limit of 3.49 × 10⁻⁸ M and a quantification limit of 1.0 × 10⁻⁷ M, with a wide linearity range (0.49–15.602 µM). The electrochemical performance of the SPE-SWCNT-Ty biosensor was compared with that of the modified SPE-SWCNT sensor, and the results showed increased selectivity and sensitivity of the biosensor due to the electrocatalytic activity of tyrosinase. The results obtained from the quantitative determination of HT showed that commercial EVOOs contain significant amounts of HT, proving the high quality of the finished products. The determination of the antiradical activity of HT was carried out spectrophotometrically using the free reagent galvinoxyl. The results showed that there is a very good correlation between the antiradical capacity of EVOOs, the voltammetric response and implicitly the increased concentration of HT. SPE-SWCNT-Ty has multiple advantages such as sensitivity, selectivity, feasibility and low cost and could be used in routine analysis for quality control of food products such as vegetable oils.
