Abstract
Breast cancer belongs to the most commonly diagnosed malignancies worldwide, with its increasing incidence paralleled by advances in early diagnostics and effective treatments resulting in significantly improved survival rates. However, breast cancer survivors often experience significantly reduced quality of life linked to the long-term health burden as a consequence of aggressive oncological treatments applied. Their most frequently recorded complains include chronic fatigue, reduced physical activity, disordered sleep, chronification of pain, and severe mental health impairments-all per evidence are associated with compromised mitochondrial health and impaired homeostasis. Self-report of a breast cancer survivor is included in this article to illustrate currently uncovered patient needs. This article highlights mechanisms behind the suboptimal health of breast cancer survivors associated with mitochondrial damage, and introduces a novel, mitochondria-based holistic approach addressing rehabilitation concepts for breast cancer survivors following advanced principles of predictive, preventive and personalised medicine (3PM). By operating via mitochondrial function, the proposed holistic approach triggers systemic effects at molecular, sub/cellular and organismal levels positively affecting energy metabolism, repair mechanisms as well as physical and mental health creating, therefore, highly effective rehabilitation algorithms tailored to an individualised patient profile. The proposed methodology integrates mitochondrial health assessments utilising mitochondrial homeostasis biomarkers in tear fluid as a non-invasive diagnostic tool, tailored nutraceuticals and lifestyle adjustments. The introduced approach aligns with advanced principles of 3PM, offering a holistic and proactive framework for managing persistent post-treatment symptoms of suboptimal health in the cohort of cancer survivors. Furthermore, presented approach is also applicable to pre-habilitation programmes considering needs of other patient cohorts affected by chronic diseases such as CVD and orthopaedic disorders with planned major surgical incisions, who require individually adapted pre- and rehabilitation programmes. Implementing such innovative pre- and rehabilitation strategies may lead to a full recovery, sustainable health conditions and, therefore, facilitating patients' comeback to normal daily activities, family and professional life. Contextually, presented approach is considered a 'proof-of-principle' model for the 3PM-related paradigm shift from reactive medicine to a cost-effective holistic health management in both primary and secondary care benefiting a large spectrum of affected patient cohorts, individuals in suboptimal health conditions as well as society at large.

Abstract
Globally, age-related diseases represent a significant public health concern among the elderly population. In aging, healthy organs and tissues undergo structural and functional changes that put the aged adults at risk of diseases. Some of the age-related diseases include cancer, atherosclerosis, brain disorders, muscle atrophy (sarcopenia), gastrointestinal (GIT) disorders, etc. In organs, a decline in stem cell function is the starting point of many conditions and is extremely important in GIT disorder development. Many studies have established that aging affects stem cells and their surrounding supportive niche components. Although there is a significant advancement in treating intestinal aging, the rising elderly population coupled with a higher occurrence of chronic gut ailments necessitates more effective therapeutic approaches to preserve gut health. Notable therapeutic strategies such as Western medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, and other health-promotion interventions have been reported in several studies to hold promise in mitigating age-related gut disorders. This review highlights findings across various facets of gut aging with a focus on aging-associated changes of intestinal stem cells and their niche components, thus a deviation from the normal to repercussion, as well as essential therapeutic strategies to mitigate intestinal aging.

Abstract
Ginger (Zingiber officinale) has a rich history of traditional medicinal use and has attracted a global interest in its health benefits. This study aims to provide insights into the clinical research landscape on ginger, focusing on its pharmacological effects and studied health-related outcomes. The study design involves systematic analysis of data from clinical trials available on ClinicalTrials.gov and discussion of findings in the context of the existing scientific knowledge. A comprehensive analysis of clinical trials registered on ClinicalTrials.gov related to ginger was first conducted, and the scientific background related to specific ginger clinical research avenues was further evaluated through PubMed searches. A variety of trial designs were identified, including treatment, prevention, and supportive care objectives. A total of 188 studies were identified on ClinicalTrials.gov, of which 89 met the inclusion criteria. Among the 89 trials, treatment objectives were predominant (47.2%), and dietary supplements (40.4%) and drugs (27%) were the most prevalent intervention types. These trials covered various health outcomes, such as antiemetic activity, analgesic function, effects on health-related quality of life, blood pressure variation, energy expenditure, and reduction in xerostomia. This study analysis provides a comprehensive overview of the clinical trials landscape on ginger, focusing on its broad spectrum of potential health benefits. While individual trials show promising results, a significant gap in the available data with a low reporting rate of final results is identified, underscoring the need for further research to establish conclusive evidence of ginger's therapeutic potentials.

Abstract
Background Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) is the most common adverse effect of chemotherapy and affects the continuation of chemotherapy in cancer patients. Electrical acupoint stimulation (EAS), which includes electroacupuncture and transcutaneous electrical stimulation (TES), has been used to treat CINV. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the efficacy of EAS in the treatment of CINV. Methods Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of EAS for CINV retrieved form five key databases. Two researchers independently performed article screening, data extraction and data integration. The Cochrane Collaboration's tool for assessing risk of bias was used to assesse the methodological quality according to Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions. RevMan 5.4 was used to perform analyses. Results 10 RCTs with a total of 950 participants were included. The results showed that there was no significant difference between EAS compared to sham EAS in terms of increasing the rate of complete control of CINV and decreasing the overall incidence of CINV [RR = 1.26, 95 % CI (0.96, 1.66), P = 0.95; RR = 1.16, 95 % CI (0.97, 1.40), p = 0.71]. In terms of CINV severity, EAS reduced the occurrence of moderate-to-severe CINV [RR = 0.60, 95 % CI (0.38, 0.94), P = 0.03; RR = 0.50, 95 % CI (0.33, 0.76), P = 0.001]. Conclusion EAS could improve moderate-to-severe CINV. However, EAS did not show a significant difference in reducing overall incidence and improving complete control rates compared with sham EAS. Due to limitations in the quality of the included articles, the available studies are insufficient to have sufficient evidence to confirm the efficacy of EAS for CINV. Validation with rigorously designed, large-sample, high-quality clinical trial studies may also be needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND and purpose: Aromatherapy offers a low-risk solution for effectively managing common nausea and vomiting in cancer patients. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess its impact on these symptoms to facilitate practical guidelines establishment. METHODS PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, CINAHL, and Embase were searched for articles published until April 30, 2023. Inclusion criteria were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the effect of aromatherapy on nausea and vomiting in patients with cancer (age ≥18 years). The effect size was calculated using standardized mean differences (SMDs) with a random effects model. Subgroup analyses, meta-analysis of variance, and meta-regression were performed using the "meta" package in R version 4.0.2. Heterogeneity was assessed using I2 statistics. Sensitivity and publication bias analyses were performed; two reviewers independently assessed risk of bias using Cochrane's risk-of-bias tool 2.0. RESULTS Twenty-five RCTs across 10 articles revealed that aromatherapy reduced overall nausea and vomiting in patients with cancer with significant efficacy (SMD = -0.81, 95 % confidence interval [CI]: -1.11 to -0.52). Furthermore, aromatherapy reduced nausea (SMD = -0.85, 95 % CI: -1.23 to -0.46) and combined nausea and vomiting (SMD = -1.08, 95 % CI: -1.68 to -0.47), but not vomiting alone (SMD = -0.24, 95 % CI: -1.03 to 0.55). Inhalation and massage yielded positive results, especially in chemotherapy-induced cases; peppermint oil was particularly successful. CONCLUSION Our findings underscore aromatherapy's value in managing cancer treatment-associated nausea and vomiting. Conclusive evidence on aromatherapy-led nausea reduction is lacking due to limited RCTs; research is warranted for robust conclusions.

Abstract
To investigate the mechanism of action of Banxia-Shengjiang drug pair on the inhibition of gastric cancer (GC) using network pharmacology and bioinformatics techniques. The action targets of the Banxia (Pinellia ternata (Thunb.) Makino) -Shengjiang (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) drug pair obtained from the TCMSP database were intersected with differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and GC-related genes, and the intersected genes were analyzed for pathway enrichment to identify the signaling pathways and core target genes. Subsequently, the core target genes were analyzed for clinical relevance gene mutation analysis, methylation analysis, immune infiltration analysis and immune cell analysis. Finally, by constructing the PPI network of hub genes and corresponding active ingredients, the key active ingredients of the Banxia-Shengjiang drug pair were screened for molecular docking with the hub genes. In this study, a total of 557 target genes of Banxia-Shengjiang pairs, 7754 GC-related genes and 1799 DEGs in GC were screened. Five hub genes were screened, which were PTGS2, MMP9, PPARG, MMP2, and CXCR4. The pathway enrichment analyses showed that the intersecting genes were associated with RAS/MAPK signaling pathway. In addition, the clinical correlation analysis showed that hub genes were differentially expressed in GC and was closely associated with immune infiltration and immunotherapy. The results of single nucleotide variation (SNV) and copy number variation (CNV) indicated that mutations in the hub genes were associated with the survival of gastric cancer patients. Finally, the PPI network and molecular docking results showed that PTGS2 and MMP9 were potentially important targets for the inhibition of GC by Banxia-Shengjiang drug pair, while cavidine was an important active ingredient for the inhibition of GC by Banxia-Shengjiang drug pair. Banxia-Shengjiang drug pair may regulate the immune function and inhibit GC by modulating the expression of core target genes such as RAS/MAPK signaling pathway, PTGS2 and MMP9.

Abstract
Ginger may be a potential remedy for nausea and vomiting. This review aimed to assess the reporting and methodological quality, and integrate the evidence in this field. A total of fifteen meta-analyses were analysed and met the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses 2009 guidelines, providing a relatively complete statement. However, methodological quality, assessed using the Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews-2 checklist, was deemed critically low to low. Our review's findings support ginger's effectiveness in managing chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting in cancer patients. It also reduces postoperative nausea and vomiting severity, decreasing the need for rescue antiemetics. Furthermore, ginger shows promise in alleviating pregnancy-related nausea and vomiting symptoms. The pooled evidence suggests ginger as a safe botanical option for managing nausea and vomiting, but it is important to improve the scientific quality of published meta-analyses in the future.

Abstract
Ayurveda, an ancient holistic and personalized healing system originating from the Indian subcontinent, has been gaining increasing attention as a complementary and alternative medical practice for treating various health conditions, including those related to women's reproductive well-being. This comprehensive literature review examines a wide array of experimental and clinical studies exploring the diverse facets of Ayurvedic interventions in addressing issues such as menstrual irregularities, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), infertility, and menopausal symptoms. The paper specifically focuses on discussing the available data regarding the efficacy of Tulsi (Ocimum tenuiflorum), ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), ginger (Zingiber officinale), cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum), turmeric (Curcuma longa), and Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus), which have traditionally been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. The synthesis of literature not only highlights the potential benefits of these Ayurvedic interventions, but also critically assesses the methodological rigor of existing studies, identifying research gaps, and proposing directions for future investigations. While acknowledging the need for further rigorous research and clinical trials, the review emphasizes the benefits of collaborative and integrative healthcare. This review aims to serve as a valuable resource for healthcare practitioners, researchers, and individuals seeking holistic and natural alternatives for female reproductive health management.

Abstract
In recent years there has been growing interest in the use of nutraceuticals and biotics in both pediatric and adult clinical practice. The overlapping and often ambiguous symptoms of both functional and organic gastrointestinal disorders have led to a search for alternative therapeutic approaches that avoid the use of synthetic or chemical treatments. However, while nutraceuticals and natural supplements are widely used, their health benefits are often not supported by adequate scientific evidence, and an unregulated use of nutraceuticals can be potentially harmful. The correct use of nutraceuticals, prebiotics, and probiotics can optimize the results of drug therapy in some cases and reduce the risk of side effects. This review aims to provide clinicians with guidance on the use of complementary therapies for pediatric gastrointestinal symptoms and disorders, highlighting the scarcity of studies on the kinetics and dynamics of nutraceuticals and biotics. While it is generally difficult to associate their intakes with adverse events due to the often-coexisting pharmacological treatments, it is essential to avoid the abandonment of traditional drugs with proven efficacy in the treatment of single diseases. Overall, the use of nutraceuticals, prebiotics, and probiotics in pediatric gastroenterological practice requires caution and medical supervision. Further research is needed to determine the effects of alternative therapies on pediatric gastrointestinal symptoms and disorders, and to ensure their safe and effective use in the clinical practice.

Abstract
Timely diagnosis and appropriate antitumoral treatments remain of utmost importance, since cancer remains a leading cause of death worldwide. Within this context, nanotechnology offers specific benefits in terms of cancer therapy by reducing its adverse effects and guiding drugs to selectively target cancer cells. In this comprehensive review, we have summarized the most relevant novel outcomes in the range of 2010-2023, covering the design and application of nanosystems for cancer therapy. We have established the general requirements for nanoparticles to be used in drug delivery and strategies for their uptake in tumor microenvironment and vasculature, including the reticuloendothelial system uptake and surface functionalization with protein corona. After a brief review of the classes of nanovectors, we have covered different classes of nanoparticles used in cancer therapies. First, the advances in the encapsulation of drugs (such as paclitaxel and fisetin) into nanoliposomes and nanoemulsions are described, as well as their relevance in current clinical trials. Then, polymeric nanoparticles are presented, namely the ones comprising poly lactic-co-glycolic acid, polyethylene glycol (and PEG dilemma) and dendrimers. The relevance of quantum dots in bioimaging is also covered, namely the systems with zinc sulfide and indium phosphide. Afterwards, we have reviewed gold nanoparticles (spheres and anisotropic) and their application in plasmon-induced photothermal therapy. The clinical relevance of iron oxide nanoparticles, such as magnetite and maghemite, has been analyzed in different fields, namely for magnetic resonance imaging, immunotherapy, hyperthermia, and drug delivery. Lastly, we have covered the recent advances in the systems using carbon nanomaterials, namely graphene oxide, carbon nanotubes, fullerenes, and carbon dots. Finally, we have compared the strategies of passive and active targeting of nanoparticles and their relevance in cancer theranostics. This review aims to be a (nano)mark on the ongoing journey towards realizing the remarkable potential of different nanoparticles in the realm of cancer therapeutics.

Abstract
Chemotherapy is the most common treatment for malignant tumors. However, chemotherapy-induced gastrointestinal toxicity (CIGT) has been a major concern for cancer patients, which reduces their quality of life and leads to treatment intolerance and even cessation. Nevertheless, prevention and treatment for CIGT are challenging, due to the prevalence and complexity of the condition. Chemotherapeutic drugs directly damage gastrointestinal mucosa to induce CIGT, including nausea, vomiting, anorexia, gastrointestinal mucositis, and diarrhea, etc. The pathogenesis of CIGT involves multiple factors, such as gut microbiota disorders, inflammatory responses and abnormal neurotransmitter levels, that synergistically contribute to its occurrence and development. In particular, the dysbiosis of gut microbiota is usually linked to abnormal immune responses that increases inflammatory cytokines' expression, which is a common characteristic of many types of CIGT. Chemotherapy-induced intestinal neurotoxicity is also a vital concern in CIGT. Currently, modern medicine is the dominant treatment of CIGT, however, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has attracted interest as a complementary and alternative therapy that can greatly alleviate CIGT. Accordingly, this review aimed to comprehensively summarize the pathogenesis and current management of CIGT using PubMed and Google Scholar databases, and proposed that future research for CIGT should focus on the gut microbiota, intestinal neurotoxicity, and promising TCM therapies, which may help to develop more effective interventions and optimize managements of CIGT.

Abstract
An increase in life expectancy leads to a greater impact of chronic non-communicable diseases. This is even more remarkable in elder populations, to whom these become main determinants of health status, affecting mental and physical health, quality of life, and autonomy. Disease appearance is closely related to the levels of cellular oxidation, pointing out the importance of including foods in one's diet that can prevent oxidative stress. Previous studies and clinical data suggest that some plant-based products can slow and reduce the cellular degradation associated with aging and age-related diseases. Many plants from one family present several applications that range from the food to the pharmaceutical industry due to their characteristic flavor and scents. The Zingiberaceae family, which includes cardamom, turmeric, and ginger, has bioactive compounds with antioxidant activities. They also have anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anticancer, and antiemetic activities and properties that help prevent cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. These products are abundant sources of chemical substances, such as alkaloids, carbohydrates, proteins, phenolic acids, flavonoids, and diarylheptanoids. The main bioactive compounds found in this family (cardamom, turmeric, and ginger) are 1,8-cineole, α-terpinyl acetate, β-turmerone, and α-zingiberene. The present review gathers evidence surrounding the effects of dietary intake of extracts of the Zingiberaceae family and their underlying mechanisms of action. These extracts could be an adjuvant treatment for oxidative-stress-related pathologies. However, the bioavailability of these compounds needs to be optimized, and further research is needed to determine appropriate concentrations and their antioxidant effects in the body.

Abstract
The second leading cause of cancer death in women worldwide is breast cancer (BC), and despite significant advances in BC therapies, a significant proportion of patients develop metastasis and disease recurrence. Currently used treatments, like radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and hormone replacement therapy, result in poor responses and high recurrence rates. Alternative therapies are therefore needed for this type of cancer. Cancer patients may benefit from immunotherapy, a novel treatment strategy in cancer treatment. Even though immunotherapy has been successful in many cases, some patients do not respond to the treatment or those who do respond relapse or progress. The purpose of this review is to discuss several different immunotherapy approaches approved for the treatment of BC, as well as different strategies for immunotherapy for the treatment of BC.

Abstract
6-Shogaol from ginger has anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidation and anti-cancer effects. Aim of the Study: To study the effects and possible mechanisms of 6-Shogaol on inhibiting the migration of colon cancer cells Caco2 and HCT116 and prove the effects on proliferation and apoptosis. Materials and methods: The cells were treated with 6-Shogaol at the concentrations of 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 µM, the cytotoxicity was tested by Colony formation assays and 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT), and the Western blot was used to evaluate IKKβ/NF-κB/Snail pathway and EMT-related proteins. In addition, in order to eliminate the interference of proliferation inhibition on the experiment, Caco2 cells were treated with 6-Shogaol at the concentrations of 0, 40, and 80 µM, HCT116 cells were treated with 6-Shogaol at the concentrations of 0, 20, and 40 µM, apoptosis was measured by Annex V/PI staining, and migration was measured by Wound healing assays and Transwell test. Results: 6-Shogaol significantly inhibited the growth of cells. The maximum inhibitory concentration of half of them was 86.63 µM in Caco2 cells and 45.25 µM in HCT116 cells. At 80 µM and 40 µM concentrations, 6-Shogaol significantly promoted apoptosis of colon cancer Caco2 cells and HCT116 cells, and also significantly inhibited cell migration (P < .05). In addition, Western blot analysis showed that at 80 µM dose of 6-Shogaol significantly reduced MMP-2, N-cadherin, IKKβ, P-NF-κB and Snail expression in Caco2 cells (P < .05). 40 µM dose of 6-Shogaol significantly reduced VEGF, IKKβ, and P-NF-κB expression, and MMP-2, N-cadherin and Snail was significantly decreased at 60 µM of 6-Shogaol in HCT116 cells(P < .05). However, there was no significant change in E-cadherin in Caco2 cells, and the expression of E-cadherin protein in HCT116 cells decreased. Conclusion: This study proposes and confirms that 6-Shogaol can significantly inhibit the migration of colon cancer cells Caco2 and HCT116, and its mechanism may be produced by inhibiting EMT through IKKβ/NF-κB/Snail signaling pathway. It was also confirmed that 6-Shogaol inhibited the proliferation and promoted apoptosis of Caco2 and HCT116 cells.
