Abstract
Background The burgeoning prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) has been linked to a spectrum of health complications, including those affecting the musculoskeletal system. Knee proprioception, muscle strength, and stability are essential for maintaining functional mobility and preventing falls, yet their relationship with T2DM is not fully elucidated. Objectives This study aimed to compare knee proprioception, muscle strength, and limits of stability (LOS) between individuals with T2DM and asymptomatic controls and to examine the moderating role of physical activity on these relationships. Methods In a cross-sectional design, 192 participants (96 with T2DM and 96 asymptomatic) underwent assessments for knee proprioception using a digital inclinometer, muscle strength via a handheld dynamometer, and LOS through dynamic posturography, graded as a percentage of maximum lean without losing balance. Results Our analysis revealed that individuals with T2DM demonstrated reduced knee muscle strength, with mean differences of 12.90 Nm (right) and 18.80 Nm (left) in 25° of flexion, and 25.78 Nm (right) and 26.36 Nm (left) in 40° of flexion, compared to asymptomatic controls. Proprioception errors were greater in the T2DM group (p < 0.001), with significant deficits noted in both knee 25° of flexion and 40° of flexion. Stability limits were also compromised, with the T2DM group displaying a decreased ability to maintain balance across all tested directions (p < 0.001). Physical activity emerged as a positive moderator, with higher activity levels correlating with improved muscle strength and stability. Conclusion T2DM significantly impairs musculoskeletal function, highlighting the need for integrated management strategies. The study underscores the importance of physical activity in mitigating T2DM-related musculoskeletal deterioration, suggesting that therapeutic interventions should include a focus on enhancing muscle strength and stability to improve the quality of life in this population.

Abstract
Background and Objectives While extensive research has examined the rehabilitation challenges faced by stroke survivors, there is limited literature addressing the difficulties encountered by older adult stroke survivors and their caregivers in accessing rehabilitation and long-term care within the Chinese community. This study aimed to investigate the specific challenges related to access, quality, and coordination of rehabilitation and long-term care experienced by older adult stroke survivors and their caregivers within the Chinese community. Methods A qualitative phenomenological design was employed to explore the lived experiences of stroke survivors and their caregivers within the Chinese community. A purposive sampling method was used to recruit participants from June to August 2023. Participants engaged in face-to-face semi-structured interviews. The data were analyzed using an inductive thematic analysis approach to identify and understand key themes and sub-themes. Results The study involved 38 participants, consisting of 21 older adult stroke survivors (13 males, 8 females) and 17 family caregivers (7 males, 10 females), recruited from five Chinese community health service stations. The analysis identified four distinct themes and 11 sub-themes that encapsulated the challenges faced by participants. These themes include (1) Difficulties in accessing medical services (insufficient medical resources, lack of rehabilitation resources, and time-consuming processes), (2) Challenges in daily life (inconvenience in daily mobility, inadequate financial support, and difficulties in applying for home care services), (3) Psychosocial stress (loneliness, powerlessness, and worry about burdening others), (4) Insufficient information (lack of awareness of available community services, and limited public health education activities). Conclusion Older adult stroke survivors and their caregivers in Chinese communities face significant challenges. To improve their well-being and quality of life, it is crucial to address these challenges through enhanced access to healthcare, better support for daily living, and more effective information dissemination. Meeting these needs requires a coordinated effort from healthcare providers, community stakeholders, and policymakers to develop and implement effective, long-term care solutions.

Abstract
Background Early rehabilitation after acute ischemic stroke (AIS) contributes to functional recovery. However, the optimal time for starting rehabilitation remains a topic of ongoing investigation. This article aims to shed light on the safety and efficacy of very early rehabilitation (VER) initiated within 48 h of stroke onset. Methods A systematic search in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases was conducted from inception to January 20, 2024. Relevant literature on VER in patients with AIS was reviewed and the data related to favorable and adverse clinical outcomes were collected for meta-analysis. Subgroup analysis was conducted at different time points, namely at discharge and at three and 12 months. Statistical analyses were performed with the help of the Meta Package in STATA Version 15.0. Results A total of 14 randomized controlled trial (RCT) studies and 3,039 participants were included in the analysis. VER demonstrated a significant association with mortality [risk ratio (RR) = 1.27, 95% confidence interval (CI) (1.00, 1.61)], ability of daily living [weighted mean difference (WMD) = 6.90, 95% CI (0.22, 13.57)], and limb motor function [WMD = 5.02, 95% CI (1.63, 8.40)]. However, no significant difference was observed between the VER group and the control group in adverse events [RR = 0.89, 95% CI (0.79, 1.01)], severity of stroke [WMD = 0.52, 95% CI (-0.04, 1.08)], degree of disability [RR = 1.06, 95% CI (0.93, 1.20)], or recovery of walking [RR = 0.98, 95% CI (0.94, 1.03)] after stroke. Subgroup analysis revealed that VER reduced the risk of adverse events in the late stage (at three and 12 months) [RR = 0.86, 95% CI (0.74, 0.99)] and degree of disability at 12 months [RR = 1.28, 95% CI (1.03, 1.60)], and improved daily living ability at 3 months [WMD = 4.26, 95% CI (0.17, 8.35)], while increasing severity of stroke during hospitalization [WMD = 0.81, 95% CI (0.01, 1.61)]. Conclusion VER improves activities of daily living (ADLs) and lowers the incidence of long-term complications in stroke survivors. However, premature or overly intense rehabilitation may increase mortality in patients with AIS during the acute phase. PROSPERO registration number: CRD42024508180. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To clarify the time-course of longitudinal changes in the independence level of subtasks composing bed-wheelchair transfer among patients with stroke. DESIGN Single-institution prospective cohort study. PATIENTS A total of 137 consecutive post-stroke patients using wheelchair on admission to the subacute rehabilitation wards. METHODS The independence degree in each of the 25 transfer-related subtasks was assessed using the Bed-Wheelchair Transfer Tasks Assessment Form on a three-level scale every two weeks, from admission to the endpoint (either discharge or when achieving independent transfer). Patients were classified based on admission and endpoint assessment form scores using two-step cluster analysis. RESULTS Patients were classified into three clusters. The first cluster included 50 patients who exhibited a greater independence level in all subtasks on admission (52.0-100% of patients performed each subtask independently) and at the endpoint (64.0-100%). The second included 30 patients who showed less independence on admission (0-27.8%) but achieved greater independence levels at the endpoint (44.4-97.2%). The third included 51 patients whose independence level remained low in many subtasks from admission (0-5.8%) until the endpoint (0-29.4%). CONCLUSION The independence level and its changing process during transfer were categorized into three time-courses, each requiring different intervention strategies.

Abstract
Background The primary management strategy for gait impairment is the adoption of a walking aid. However, there are no established criteria upon which to base a decision regarding the need for a walking aid. It appears clinicians prescribe aids based on preference, clinical experience and intuition rather than standardised objective rationale. This may contribute to the inconsistent gait response to walking aids reported in the published literature. Understanding gait changes resulting from gait aid usage may have significant impact on clinical practice by improving confidence of prescribing clinicians and compliance of walking aid usage by patients, maximising the benefits of use, and reducing any risks associated with non-use or inappropriate use, of the walking aid. Research question Do professionally prescribed walking aids improve gait parameters? Methods This is a secondary data analysis of a cross-sectional study where participants, identified by healthcare staff requiring a mobility assessment due to potential balance impairment of any cause, walked a 20-m straight walking course under three different walking conditions (no aid, walking stick and 4-wheeled walker). Fifty-eight participants were recruited. Commonly reported spatial and temporal gait parameters were assessed using a validated gait analysis device. Changes in gait parameters across the three conditions were compared, noting the individual's professionally prescribed aid and interpreting changes in parameters towards outcomes of the 'no aid required group'. Results and significance Gait cycle, cadence, stance, swing and stride length during unaided walking were significantly changed when a walking stick was prescribed (p < 0.05). Stance, swing, double support, stride length, speed, max toe clearance and minimum toe clearance were significantly changed when a 4-wheel walker was prescribed (p < 0.05). Professional walking aid prescription improves some gait parameters. A greater number and magnitude of gait parameter improvements were seen in people requiring a 4-wheel walker than people requiring a walking stick.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aims to assess the impact of proprioceptive training strategies with dual-task exercises on gait in people with chronic stroke. STUDY DESIGN Systematic review. PATIENTS Chronic stroke. METHODS Searches were conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines and PICOS criteria. PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases were systematically searched from November 2020 to February 2022, for eligible clinical trials. Two independent reviewers thoroughly screened potential articles for relevance and assessed the methodology quality. In accordance with the GRADE, PICOS criteria, and Cochrane risk of bias tools, the authors included articles concerning the effectiveness of dual-task in proprioceptive training on gait parameters in people with chronic stroke. RESULTS Of 3075 identified studies, 11 articles met the inclusion criteria: 7 were randomized clinical trials, 1 was not randomized, and 3 were observational studies. The overall quality of evidence, assessed using the GRADE framework, was high, indicating a high level of confidence in the systematic review's findings. The papers involved 393 stroke patients; 241 underwent dual-task in proprioceptive training, with 152 participants in other stroke rehabilitation; within the dual-task group, 71 engaged in cognitive tasks, and 170 participated in motor tasks. dual-task in proprioceptive training improved gait speed, cadence, stride time, stride length, and step length. The best effects were observed with training 3 times a week for 4 weeks, with each session lasting 30 minutes, on speed, cadence, stride length, and step length. CONCLUSION Current evidence suggests that proprioceptive training strategies with dual-task exercises improved walking abilities in people with chronic stroke. Specifically, it enhanced gait speed, a key indicator of clinical severity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Chronic ankle instability (CAI) is a common musculoskeletal injury associated with static balance deficits. The Balance Error Scoring System (BESS) is commonly used to assess static balance in individuals with CAI. However, the sensitivity of BESS in detecting balance deficits in CAI is unknown. This study compared BESS performance between people with CAI and controls and investigated which stances most effectively identified balance deficits in individuals with CAI. LITERATURE SURVEY Seven electronic databases (Web of Science, CINAHL, Embase, PubMed, Scopus, SPORTDiscus, and Cochrane Library) were searched from July 13, 2023, to September 10, 2023, using the ankle instability and balance related terms as keywords to search original studies and perform a systematic review. METHODS Studies that compared BESS scores between individuals with CAI and healthy controls were systematically identified. Extracted data included study characteristics, participant demographics, and assessment details. The risk of bias was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. The standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were used as effect sizes to compare groups for the BESS components used to assess CAI. RESULTS Six studies met the eligibility criteria. The double-leg foam stance yielded an SMD of -0.02 (95% CI: -0.32 to 0.29), with an I2 value of 3.5%. Significant differences between groups were noted in the single foam (SMD = 0.89; 95% CI: 0.33-1.45; I2 = 78.3%) and single firm (SMD = 0.62; 95% CI: 0.14-1.10; I2 = 72.1%) performances, although both demonstrated high heterogeneity. Conversely, the tandem foam (SMD = 0.77; 95% CI: 0.51-1.02; I2 = 0.0%) and tandem firm (SMD = 0.38; 95% CI: 0.11-0.68; I2 = 23.8%) performances showed small to moderate between-group differences with considerably lower heterogeneity. CONCLUSION This review indicates that tandem stances on foam and firm surfaces in the BESS are reliable indicators of static balance deficits in individuals with CAI.

Abstract
Background: Constipation is common in elderly inpatients with intracerebral hemorrhage. This study aimed to construct a model for predicting the risk of constipation in elderly inpatients with intracerebral hemorrhage and to provide reference for formulating targeted intervention measures. Methods: Elderly patients with intracerebral hemorrhage who were treated in the department of Neurosurgery of a third-class hospital in Suzhou from January 2018 to September 2023 were included. Clinical data of patients with and without constipation were compared. Logistic regression analysis was used to explore the influencing factors of constipation in elderly patients with intracerebral hemorrhage, and R software was used to construct a line chart model to verify its predictive effect. Results: A total of 504 elderly patients with intracerebral hemorrhage were included. The incidence of constipation in elderly patients with cerebral hemorrhage was 63.9%. Logistic regression analysis showed that GCS score (OR = 1.094, 95%CI: 1.019∼1.174), hypertension (OR = 2.911, 95%CI: 1.797∼4.715), use of dehydrating agent (OR = 3.794, 95%CI: 2.337∼6.158), surgical treatment (OR = 3.986, 95%CI: 2.339∼6.793), use of sedative drugs (OR = 4.212, 95%CI:2.386-7.435), and limb paralysis (OR = 6.313, 95%CI:3.689∼10.803) were the independent risk factors for constipation in elderly patients with intracerebral hemorrhage. The area under the ROC curve of the prediction model was 0.872 (95%CI: 0.8401∼0.9033), the best critical value was 0.705, the sensitivity was 0.748, and the specificity was 0.857. Conclusion: The constipation risk prediction model of elderly patients with cerebral hemorrhage has good differentiation and calibration, which is helpful for health care providers to identify the risk of constipation in elderly patients with intracerebral hemorrhage.

Abstract
Background Cognitive-motor training in form of exergames has been found to be feasible and effective for the improvement of motor and cognitive functioning in older adults and several patient populations. Exergame training under unstable conditions might increase the proprioceptive resources needed and thus might be a superior training approach compared to exergame training on stable ground for stroke patients, who often have proprioceptive deficits. Objective Aim of this study is to assess the feasibility and effects of exergame-based cognitive-motor training on a labile platform on physical and cognitive functioning in stroke inpatients. Methods This is two-armed pilot randomized controlled trial taking place in an inpatient neurologic rehabilitation clinic. A total of 30 persons that are undergoing inpatient rehabilitation due to a stroke will be randomly assigned to either the intervention group (IG) or the control group (CG). Participants of the IG will receive exergame-based motor-cognitive training on a labile surface, whereas participants of the CG will train on a stable surface. Primary outcome is feasibility comprising measures of adherence, attrition, safety and usability. Secondary outcomes will be measures of cognitive (psychomotor speed, inhibition, selective attention, cognitive flexibility, brain activity) and motor (functional mobility, gait speed, balance, proprioception) functioning. Results Data collection started in February 2024 and is expected to be completed by August 2024. Conclusion This is the first study looking into exergame training on labile surface in stroke patients. It will give valuable insights into the feasibility and potential added value of this type of training and thus inform further implementation efforts in the context of inpatient rehabilitation. Abstract
Taping is increasingly used to manage proprioceptive deficits, but existing reviews on its impact have shortcomings. To accurately assess the effects of taping, a separate meta-analyses for different population groups and tape types is needed. Therefore, both between- and within-group meta-analyses are needed to evaluate the influence of taping on proprioception. According to PRISMA guidelines, a literature search was conducted across seven databases (Web of Science, PEDro, Pubmed, EBSCO, Scopus, ERIC, SportDiscus, Psychinfo) and one register (CENTRAL) using the keywords "tape" and "proprioception". Out of 1372 records, 91 studies, involving 2718 individuals, met the inclusion criteria outlined in the systematic review. The meta-analyses revealed a significant between and within-group reduction in repositioning errors with taping compared to no tape (Hedge's g: -0.39, p < 0.001) and placebo taping (Hedge's g: -1.20, p < 0.001). Subgroup and sensitivity analyses further confirmed the reliability of the overall between and within-group analyses. The between-group results further demonstrated that both elastic tape and rigid tape had similar efficacy to improve repositioning errors in both healthy and fatigued populations. Additional analyses on the threshold to detection of passive motion and active movement extent discrimination apparatus revealed no significant influence of taping. In conclusion, the findings highlight the potential of taping to enhance joint repositioning accuracy compared to no tape or placebo taping. Further research needs to uncover underlying mechanisms and refine the application of taping for diverse populations with proprioceptive deficits.

Abstract
Background Over the past decade, there has been extensive research exploring the relationship between vascular health and mental well-being, encompassing aspects such as mood and cognition. However, there is a notable gap in research focusing on the mental and vascular conditions of minor ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) patients, particularly within the Thai population. Objectives To investigate the clinical characteristics and mental issues related to vascular functions in patients who have experienced a minor ischemic stroke or TIA. This study, approved by the Buriram Hospital Ethics Committee (IRB: BR0033.102.1/8), adhered to the guidelines of the Helsinki Declaration and obtained informed consent from all participants. Methods A prospective cross-sectional study was conducted at Buriram Hospital, a government regional hospital located in Buriram province, Thailand, involving twenty-three participants diagnosed with minor ischemic stroke or TIA. Measurements included clinical characteristics, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale-part Anxiety (HADS-A), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale-part Depression (HADS-D), mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), flow-mediated dilation (FMD), and brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV). Linear regression analysis was employed to investigate the factors associated with vascular function (FMD and baPWV). Results The factor related to FMD was HADS-D (β = -0.5, 95% CI -0.33 to -0.04). Factors associated with baPWV included age (β = 0.51, 95% CI 5.05 to 39.50) and the duration of minor ischemic stroke or TIA (β = 0.48, 95% CI 25.41 to 290.99). Conclusions FMD shows a connection with depressive symptoms in patients with minor ischemic stroke or TIA. Therefore, it is important to detect and provide appropriate treatment for depressive symptoms in these patients, as it may lead to improvements in vascular function and better cerebrovascular outcomes.

Abstract
Stroke can impair mobility, with deficits more pronounced while simultaneously performing multiple activities. In this study, common clinical tests were instrumented with wearable motion sensors to study motor-cognitive interference effects in stroke survivors (SS). A total of 21 SS and 20 healthy controls performed the Timed Up and Go (TUG), Sit-to-Stand (STS), balance, and 10-Meter Walk (10MWT) tests under single and dual-task (counting backward) conditions. Calculated measures included total time and gait measures for TUG, STS, and 10MWT. Balance tests for both open and closed eyes conditions were assessed using sway, measured using the linear acceleration of the thorax, pelvis, and thighs. SS exhibited poorer performance with slower TUG (16.15 s vs. 13.34 s, single-task p < 0.001), greater sway in the eyes open balance test (0.1 m/s2 vs. 0.08 m/s2, p = 0.035), and slower 10MWT (12.94 s vs. 10.98 s p = 0.01) compared to the controls. Dual tasking increased the TUG time (~14%, p < 0.001), balance thorax sway (~64%, p < 0.001), and 10MWT time (~17%, p < 0.001) in the SS group. Interaction effects were minimal, suggesting similar dual-task costs. The findings demonstrate exaggerated mobility deficits in SS during dual-task clinical testing. Dual-task assessments may be more effective in revealing impairments. Integrating cognitive challenges into evaluation can optimize the identification of fall risks and personalize interventions targeting identified cognitive-motor limitations post stroke.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Regular exercise is emphasized for the improvement of functional capacity and independence of older adults. This study aimed to compare the effects of a dual-task resistance exercise program and resistance exercise on cognition, mood, depression, physical function, and activities of daily living (ADL) in older adults with cognitive impairment. METHODS A total of 44 older adults participated in the study. Participants were randomly allocated to an experimental group (n = 22) performing a dual-task resistance exercise program for cognitive function improvement and a control group (n = 22) performing a resistance exercise program. Both groups performed the exercise for 40 min per session, three times a week, for 6 weeks (18 sessions). Cognition, mood, depression, functional fitness, and ADL were quantified before and after the intervention using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), profile of mood states (POMS), geriatric depression scale (GDS), senior fitness test (SFT), and Korean version of ADL, respectively. RESULTS There was a significant time and group interaction on the MMSE (p = 0.044). There were no significant time and group interactions in the POMS, GDS, SFT, or ADL. Cognitive function (p < 0.001), mood (p < 0.001), depression (p < 0.001), functional fitness (p < 0.001), and ADL (p < 0.001) significantly improved after dual-task resistance exercise, and cognitive function (p < 0.001), mood (p < 0.001), depression (p < 0.001), functional fitness (p < 0.001), and ADL (p < 0.001) significantly improved after resistance exercise. CONCLUSIONS Dual-task resistance exercise is more effective than resistance exercise in improving cognitive function in older adults with cognitive impairment. Both dual-task resistance exercise and resistance exercise improves mood, depression, functional fitness, and ADL after the intervention. We propose using dual-task resistance exercises for cognitive and physical health management in the older adults with cognitive impairment. Abstract
Introduction With aging, dual task (DT) ability declines and is more cognitively demanding than single tasks. Rapidly declining DT performance is regarded as a predictor of neurodegenerative disease. Task training and non-invasive transcranial electrical stimulation (tES) are methods applied to optimize the DT ability of the elderly. Methods A systematic search was carried out in the PUBMED, TDCS (transcranial direct current stimulation) databases, as well as Web of Science, and a qualitative analysis was conducted in 56 included studies. Aiming to summarize the results of studies that implemented tES, task training, or the combination for improving DT ability and related performance changes in healthy elderly and geriatric patients. For different approaches, the training procedures, parameters, as well as outcomes were discussed. Results Task training, particularly cognitive-motor DT training, has more notable effects on improving DT performance in the elderly when compared to the neuromodulation method. Discussion Anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (L-DLPFC), or its combination with task training could be promising tools. However, additional evidence is required from aged healthy people and patients, as well as further exploration of electrode montage.

Abstract
Background Falls are a primary cause of injuries and hospitalization in older adults. It has been reported that cognitive impairments and dementia can increase fall risk in the older population; however, it remains unknown if fall risk differs among subgroups of dementia. This meta-analysis summarized previous studies reporting the annual fall risk of people with Alzheimer's disease (AD) or mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and compared the fall risk between these two groups of people with dementia. Methods Thirty-five studies enrolling 7844 older adults with AD or MCI were included. The annual fall prevalence and average number of falls of the included studies were meta-analyzed and compared by random-effects models with inverse variance weights. Results The annual fall prevalence in people with AD (43.55%) was significantly higher than MCI (35.26%, p < 0.001). A χ2 test indicated that the pooled fall prevalence is significantly higher in people with AD than MCI χ2 = 158.403, p < 0.001). Additionally, the yearly average number of falls in AD was higher than in MCI (1.30 vs 0.77 falls/person). Conclusions The results showed that older people with AD experience a higher annual fall prevalence with a larger number of falls than older adults with MCI. The results suggested that the fall risk measurements should be reported separately between people with AD and MCI. The findings could provide preliminary guidance for the identification of individuals with dementia who experience a high fall risk.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify profiles of stroke patient benefitting from additional training, using latent class analysis. DESIGN Retrospective observational study. PATIENTS Patients with stroke (n = 6,875) admitted to 42 recovery rehabilitation units in Japan between January 2005 and March 2016 who were registered in the Japan Association of Rehabilitation Database. METHODS The main outcome measure was the difference in Functional Independence Measure (FIM) scores between admission and discharge (referred to as "gain"). The effect of additional training, categorized as usual care (no additional training), self-exercise, training with hospital staff, or both exercise (combining self-exercise and training with hospital staff), was assessed through multiple regression analyses of latent classes. RESULTS Applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 1185 patients were classified into 7 latent classes based on their admission characteristics (class size n = 82 (7%) to n = 226 (19%)). Patients with class 2 characteristics (right hemiparesis and modified dependence in the motor-FIM and cognitive-FIM) had positive FIM gain with additional training (95% confidence interval (95% CI) 0.49-3.29; p < 0.01). One-way analysis of variance revealed that training with hospital staff (95% CI 0.07-16.94; p < 0.05) and both exercises (95% CI 5.38-15.13; p < 0.01) led to a significantly higher mean FIM gain than after usual care. CONCLUSION Additional training in patients with stroke with right hemiparesis and modified dependence in activities of daily living was shown to improve activities of daily living. Training with hospital staff combined with self-exercise is a promising rehabilitation strategy for these patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To show the effectiveness of goal-oriented proprioceptive training in subacute stroke for balance, autonomy, and fall risk. METHODS Out a total of 35 patients, consistent in age (75.31±8.65 years), type of stroke (ischemic, 3 to 11 weeks before), and motor impairment, 18 patients underwent solely proprioceptive rehabilitation, the other 17 dual task exercises. The study assessed autonomy using Barthel Index, fall risk with Timed Up and Go Test (TUG), balance through Berg Balance Scale (BBS) and Tinetti test. RESULTS After two months, significant improvements were recorded in Barthel Index, BBS (p<0.0001), Tinetti test (p<0.0001 in dual task group, p=0.0029 in single task group), and TUG (p=0.0052 in dual task group, p=0.0020 in single task group) in both groups. Comparing the two groups, dual task group showed a significant difference in Tinetti balance assessment (p=0.0052), between the total score of Tinetti test and TUG in single (p=0.0271), and dual task (p=0.0235). Likewise, Tinetti gait test was significantly related to TUG in single (p=0.0536), and dual task (p=0.0466), while Tinetti balance test to Barthel Index (p=0.0394), BBS (p<0.0001), and TUG in single (p=0.0219), and dual task (p=0.0196). Lastly, there is a positive correlation of the use of aids with BBS (p=0.0074), and total score of Tinetti test (p=0.0160). CONCLUSION In subacute stroke, goal-oriented proprioceptive training improved balance, but only partially autonomy. Furthermore, the use of aids after dual-task exercises improved recovery of balance, but did not reduced falls.

Abstract
Flat foot is a postural deformity in which the plantar part of the foot is either completely or partially contacted with the ground. In recent clinical practices, X-ray radiographs have been introduced to detect flat feet because they are more affordable to many clinics than using specialized devices. This research aims to develop an automated model that detects flat foot cases and their severity levels from lateral foot X-ray images by measuring three different foot angles: the Arch Angle, Meary's Angle, and the Calcaneal Inclination Angle. Since these angles are formed by connecting a set of points on the image, Template Matching is used to allocate a set of potential points for each angle, and then a classifier is used to select the points with the highest predicted likelihood to be the correct point. Inspired by literature, this research constructed and compared two models: a Convolutional Neural Network-based model and a Random Forest-based model. These models were trained on 8000 images and tested on 240 unseen cases. As a result, the highest overall accuracy rate was 93.13% achieved by the Random Forest model, with mean values for all foot types (normal foot, mild flat foot, and moderate flat foot) being: 93.38 precision, 92.56 recall, 96.46 specificity, 95.42 accuracy, and 92.90 F-Score. The main conclusions that were deduced from this research are: (1) Using transfer learning (VGG-16) as a feature-extractor-only, in addition to image augmentation, has greatly increased the overall accuracy rate. (2) Relying on three different foot angles shows more accurate estimations than measuring a single foot angle.

Abstract
Functional movements of the human body occur multifacetedly. This pilot study investigated the effects of neurorehabilitation training, including diagonal movements, balance, gait, fall efficacy, and activities of daily living in stroke patients. Twenty-eight patients diagnosed with stroke by a specialist were divided into experimental groups applying diagonal exercise training and control groups applying sagittal exercise training. The five times sit-to-stand test (FTSST), timed up and go (TUG) test, and Berg balance scale (BBS) were used to evaluate balance ability, the falls efficacy scale (FES) was used to evaluate fall efficacy, and the modified Barthel index (MBI) was used to evaluate activities of daily living. All evaluations were conducted once prior to intervention implementation and again six weeks after the final intervention. In the study results, the experimental group to which the diagonal exercise training was applied had statistically significant changes in FTSST, BBS, and FES compared to the control group. In conclusion, the rehabilitation program, including diagonal exercise training, increased the patient's balance and reduced the fear of falling.
