Abstract
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common sleep-related breathing disorder. Its prevalence has increased due to increasing obesity and improved screening and diagnostic strategies. OSA overlaps with cardiopulmonary diseases to promote intermittent hypoxia and autonomic dysfunction. Intermittent hypoxia increases the risk for oxidative stress and inflammation, which promotes endothelial dysfunction and predisposes to atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular complications. OSA is associated with an increased sympathetic nervous system drive resulting in autonomic dysfunction leading to worsening of cardiopulmonary diseases. Cardiovascular diseases are observed in 40% to 80% of OSA patients. Therefore, it is essential to screen and treat cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract
Smoking is a risk factor for respiratory diseases, and it worsens sleep quality due to nicotine stimulation and sudden nicotine withdrawal during sleep. This can increase the severity of OSA through alterations upper airway inflammation and neuromuscular function, arousal mechanisms, and sleep architecture. Therefore, it may lead to sleep-disrupted breathing, particularly obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Herein, this study aims to research the association between smoking and OSA through the STOP-Bang index. In this study, total sample of 3442 participants (1465 men and 1977 women) were analyzed. We used data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in 2020 by classifying adults into current, ex-, and non-smokers. A multiple logistic regression analysis was used to investigate the association between smoking and OSA. Furthermore, multinomial regression analysis was used to investigate the effect of smoking cessation. For males, compared to the non-smokers, the odds ratios (OR) for the OSA were significantly higher in the ex-smokers (OR: 1.53, 95% confidence interval(CI) 1.01-2.32) and current smokers (OR: 1.79, 95% CI 1.10-2.89). In females, higher ORs were observed for OSA risk, similar to the non-smokers, smoking cessation, and pack-years. Among men, OSA was significantly associated with a moderate risk for ex-smokers (OR: 1.61, 95% CI 1.05-2.48) and a severe risk for current smokers (OR: 1.88, 95% CI 1.07-3.29). This study observed that smoking might contribute to OSA risk among adults. Smoking cessation can help to manage sleep quality properly.

Smoking-Induced Disturbed Sleep. A Distinct Sleep-Related Disorder Pattern? Healthcare (Basel) 2023; 11:healthcare11020205. Abstract
The relationship between smoking and sleep disorders has not been investigated sufficiently yet. Many aspects, especially regarding non-obstructive sleep apnea−hypopnea (OSA)-related disorders, are still to be addressed. All adult patients who visited a tertiary sleep clinic and provided information about their smoking history were included in this cross-sectional study. In total, 4347 patients were divided into current, former and never smokers, while current and former smokers were also grouped, forming a group of ever smokers. Sleep-related characteristics, derived from questionnaires and sleep studies, were compared between those groups. Ever smokers presented with significantly greater body mass index (BMI), neck and waist circumference and with increased frequency of metabolic and cardiovascular co-morbidities compared to never smokers. They also presented significantly higher apnea−hypopnea index (AHI) compared to never smokers (34.4 ± 24.6 events/h vs. 31.7 ± 23.6 events/h, p < 0.001) and were diagnosed more frequently with severe and moderate OSA (50.3% vs. 46.9% and 26.2% vs. 24.8% respectively). Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS) (p = 0.13) did not differ between groups. Ever smokers, compared to never smokers, presented more frequent episodes of sleep talking (30.8% vs. 26.6%, p = 0.004), abnormal movements (31.1% vs. 27.7%, p = 0.021), restless sleep (59.1% vs. 51.6%, p < 0.001) and leg movements (p = 0.002) during sleep. Those were more evident in current smokers and correlated significantly with increasing AHI. These significant findings suggest the existence of a smoking-induced disturbed sleep pattern.

Abstract
Abstract
It was found that oncological patients are4 to 8 times more likely of developing severe forms of COVID-19 infection than other patients, so mortality is higher in patients with gyneco-logical cancer. Due to this pandemic, reported delays in diagnosis and treatment of genital cancer and changes in disease management, may influence the natural history of neoplasm. This fact adds more stress and fear for patients with neoplasms. Adequate protective measures are essen-tial for SARS CoV2 infection avoidance and lead to changes in healthcare professionals clinical practice. Prioritization is important, but direct personal interactions should be limited. However, gynecological tumors surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy should continue as high priority practices, without essential modification. The conclusion is that COVID-19 pandemic has affect-ed many guides for management of diseases, especially oncological. Adaptations in clinical prac-tice may avoid viral infection and reduce mortality and severe complications.
