Fabrication of Mn-Doped SrTiO3/Carbon Fiber with Oxygen Vacancy for Enhanced Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution

Pd/Ni bimetallic modification of SrTiO3for enhancement of photocatalytic water splitting

This paper investigates the impact of Pd/Ni modification on the photocatalytic hydrogen production performance of SrTiO3(STO). STO catalysts were synthesized using a hydrothermal method, and Pd/Ni modification was applied on the surface of STO through chemical deposition. Experimental results demonstrate that the hydrogen evolution rate of Pd/Ni-modified STO (Pd/Ni-STO) reaches 2232.14μmol g-1h-1. X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy analysis reveals substitutional doping of Ni with Ti and coordination of Pd with surface O. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis indicates the introduction of oxygen vacancies due to Pd/Ni doping. Density functional theory calculations suggest that Ni doping activates neighboring Ti atoms, leading to the formation of bimetallic catalytic sites composed of oxygen vacancies and Ti atoms, greatly enhancing the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution performance. This study not only provides an effective catalyst for photocatalytic applications but also offers insights into the underlying mechanism, which may stimulate the development of metal-doped catalytic materials and have implications for a range of other applications.

The Emerging Career of Strontium Titanates in Photocatalytic Applications: A Review

The growing energy demands and rapid industrialization drove the attention towards a sustainable living. The methods to a adopt renewable source of energy has made the field of heterogeneous photocatalysis so famous. The photocatalytic hydrogen production seems to be an answer for our future energy crisis. In this regard, alkaline earth metal titanates with a perovskite structure are one of the in demand materials these days. Among these, strontium titanates (SrTiO3) play an important role and have shown a potential, especially in the field of hydrogen production. This review summarizes the significance of (SrTiO3) in photocatalytic water splitting, to produce hydrogen and the photocatalytic degradation of the pollutants from the waste water. Different synthesis methods used for preparing SrTiO3 are also discussed.

WSSe Nanocomposites for Enhanced Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution and Methylene Blue Removal under Visible-Light Irradiation

In this study, a novel tungsten disulfide diselenide (WSSe) nanocomposite by a facile hydrothermal process with great capable photocatalytic efficiency for hydrogen evolution from water and organic compound removal was discussed. The WSSe nanocomposites form heterojunctions in order to inhibit the quick recombination rate of photo-induced electrons and holes. This is considered to be a useful method in order to enhance the capability of photocatalytic hydrogen production. The hydrogen production rate of the WSSe nanocomposites approaches 3647.4 μmol/g/h, which is 12 and 11 folds the rates of the bare WS₂ and WSe₂, respectively. Moreover, the excellent photocatalytic performance for Methylene blue (MB) removal (88%) was 2.5 and 1.8 times higher than those of the bare WS₂ and WSe₂, respectively. The great photocatalytic efficiency was owing to the capable electrons and holes separation of WSSe and the construction of the heterostructure, which possessed vigorous photocatalytic oxidation and reduction potentials. The novel one-dimensional structure of the WSSe heterojunction shortens the transport pathway of the photo-induced electrons and holes. It possesses the great capable photocatalytic efficiency of the hydrogen production and organic dye removal. This study offers an insight into the route of interfacial migration and separation for induced charge carriers in order to generate clean hydrogen energy and to solve the issue of environmental pollution.
