Abstract
Cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) possess remarkable mechanical properties, a high aspect ratio, a large specific surface area, and a unique nanostructure, making them a popular choice in various fields. In this study, a CNC suspension was prepared through acid hydrolysis, and subsequently, a film exhibiting iridescence and chiral nematic structure was formed on the cured UV-WA surface via evaporation-induced self-assembly. The mean diameter and length of CNC were determined to be 25.1-33.3 nm and 281.3-404.2 nm, respectively, through transmission electron microscope analysis. The experimental results revealed that the color of the film significantly changes with variations in the CNC suspension concentration. Notably, the formation of the iridescent film is dependent on the concentration of CNC, with concentrations between 1.2% and 2.9% being optimal, and the aspect ratio of the CNC nanoparticles being around 11.3. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed that the CNC nanoparticles possess the same crystal structure as microcrystalline cellulose (cellulose I). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy revealed that the C[double bond, length as m-dash]C bond present in the liquid UV-curable coating disappeared upon UV irradiation. The performance of the CNC iridescent film, with varying thickness, was evaluated using UV-vis spectroscopy. The thermogravimetric analysis results indicate that the addition of CNC enhances the membrane's thermal stability and heat resistance. The results indicate that as the thickness of the CNC iridescent film increases, the corresponding UV-vis spectra display a redshift. The UV-WA/CNC shows potential in the field of decoration and establishing a straightforward, cost-effective, and efficient method for producing photonic materials with structural colors.

Abstract
Most traditional food packaging and preservation films suffer from limited stretchability and relatively simple functionality, which severely restricts their practical application. In this study, a highly stretchable and versatile sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/poly(ethylene imine) (PEI)/tannic acid (TA) hydrogel film was elaborately designed and demonstrated as an efficient food packaging and preservation system. The dynamic reversible non-covalent within three-dimensional (3D) network structures served as sacrificial bonds to dissipate the loaded energy and endowed the hydrogel film with excellent elongation ~400 %, which is much larger than that of conventional food packaging films (<50 %). Furthermore, the optimized CMC/PVA/PEI/TA3 hydrogel film delivers versatile performances, including self-healing, whole UV-blocking (<400 nm), strong adhesive strength (234.08 KPa), antioxidation virtues, oxygen barrier (32.64 cm3*μm/(m2*d*KPa)) and water vapor barrier (642.92 g/(m2*24 h)). Notably, the shelf life of fresh strawberries, mangoes, and cherries was prolonged by at least one week under ambient conditions when the packaging box was covered by the fabricated CMC/PVA/PEI/TA3 film. Thus, our work not only provides a highly stretchable and versatile hydrogel film but also boosts the in-depth comprehension and rational design of robust food packaging and preservation films.

Abstract
This study developed and evaluated a series of ultraviolet (UV) curable self-matting waterborne polyurethane acrylate (UV-WPUA) coatings based on the self-wrinkled surface during UV-curing in the open-air. This method is simple, efficient, eco-friendly, and it does not require complicated or expensive equipment. The FT-IR spectrum indicates that the peaks of C[double bond, length as m-dash]C in UV-WPUA have disappeared after UV irradiation. The gloss value of the UV-WPUA cured film can be affected by the wrinkles on the surface of the film and adjusted it by controlling the content of the photoinitiator in the liquid coating, since the content influences the dimensions of the wrinkles. As the height of the wrinkle increased, the gloss value of the UV-WPUA cured film decreased, and when the incident angles are 20° and 60°, the gloss values are less than 3 GU and 5 GU, respectively. Moreover, the cured film has a maximum water contact angle of 109°, which is affected by wrinkles and positively correlated with the surface roughness of the film. Furthermore, the cured film has excellent properties of thermal stability, tensile strength, pencil hardness, cross-cut adhesion and resistance to abrasion properties, making it well suited for the furniture, leather, and textile applications.

Abstract
In this paper, urea-formaldehyde resin microcapsules with shellac resin as core material were prepared by in-situ polymerization. Morphologies of shellac resin microcapsules were characterized by optical microscope (OM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Both microcapsules were spherical in shape. The encapsulation property of shellac resin was proved by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR). Shellac resin microcapsules and fluorane microcapsules were added to waterborne primer or topcoat at the same time to prepare waterborne coatings with thermochromic and self-healing dual functions. The effects of microcapsules on optical properties, mechanical properties, self-healing properties, anti-aging performance, and thermoreversible discolouration mechanism of coating films were studied. These results showed that the topcoat with 10.0% fluorane microcapsules and 5.0% shellac resin microcapsules had a better comprehensive performance. At this time, the colour of coating transformed yellow into colourless at 32 °C, and it had a good colour recovery. Shellac resin microcapsules endowed the coating with self-healing performance, and the self-healing rate was 35.9%. The research results provide a reference for the progression of multifunctional wood coatings.

Abstract
Through the optimized preparation of tung oil microcapsules, five kinds of microcapsules containing different core material content were obtained to explore the influence of microcapsules on water-based paint film and the self-healing ability of microcapsules. The results showed that the microcapsules had good appearance, and the microcapsules were successfully prepared. The color difference in the paint film increased with the increase in microcapsule content, and the gloss decreased gradually. The mechanical test showed that adding microcapsules increased the toughness of the paint film to a certain extent, and the performance of the paint film was unchanged or better. The results showed that paint film with the core–wall ratio of 0.78:1 had the best performance and self-healing function when microcapsules were added.

Abstract
Urea formaldehyde was used as wall material and waterborne coatings as a core material to prepare microcapsules. So as to explore the influence of mass ratio of core to shell, reaction temperature and standing time on the performance of microcapsules, the orthogonal test of three factors and two levels was put into effect. The orthogonal experimental results showed the mass ratio of core to shell was the most important factor. With the increase of the mass ratio of core to shell, the output and clad ratio of microcapsules increased first and then decreased. The microcapsule with the mass ratio of core to shell of 0.67:1 had better appearance, output, and encapsulation performance. The optical properties of waterborne wood coating with the microcapsules of waterborne coating as core materials did not decrease significantly, while the hardness, impact resistance, and toughness were improved. At the same time, the microcapsules have a certain self-repairing effect on coating micro-cracks. Compared with the properties of waterborne coatings with other microcapsules, the coating with waterborne coating as core material has better comprehensive performance. The results provide a new research idea for the performance enhancement and self-healing of wood waterborne coating.

Abstract
Microcapsules with lac resin as the core material and urea-formaldehyde resin as the wall material were prepared by in situ polymerization, and then the lac resin microcapsules and fluorane microcapsules were added into a water-based primer or topcoat, respectively, to prepare water-based coatings with dual functions of thermochromic and self-repair. The effects of different methods of adding microcapsules on the optical properties, mechanical properties, self-repairing properties, and the aging resistance of water-based paint film were investigated, so as to prepare water-based paint film with the best discoloration and self-repairing functions. The results showed that the paint film with 10.0% fluorane microcapsules in the topcoat and 5.0% lac resin microcapsules in the primer had better comprehensive properties, and the paint film changed from yellow to colorless at 32 °C, with a color difference of 68.9, hardness of 3H, adhesion grade of 0, impact resistance of 13.0 kg∙cm, and elongation at break of 20.0%. The resistance of the paint film to NaCl, ethanol, and detergent was grade 2, with slight discontinuous marks, and the resistance to red ink was grade 3, with slight marks. The lac resin microcapsules have good aging resistance, which can enhance the aging resistance of the paint film with fluorane microcapsules. The gap width of the paint film was repaired by 2.1 µm, the self-repairing rate was 12.3%, and the paint film with lac resin microcapsules had a better crack inhibition effect. The results have provided a reference for multifunctional wood coatings.

Effect of Microcapsules of a Waterborne Core Material on the Properties of a Waterborne Primer Coating on a Wooden Surface. COATINGS 2021. Abstract
Microcapsules of a waterborne core material were prepared using a waterborne primer. The microcapsules of the waterborne core material were added to the waterborne primer to explore the effects of different core–shell ratios and mass fractions of the microcapsules on the property of the waterborne primer coating on the wooden surface. The results show that as the mass fraction of the microcapsules increased, the chromatic aberration increased by degrees, the glossiness decreased gradually, and the hardness increased by degrees, whilst—except for the coating with 0.50:1 microcapsules—the adhesion decreased gradually. When the mass fraction of the microcapsules increased, the impact resistance increased first and decreased later, or remained unchanged after reaching a certain value. When the mass fraction of the microcapsules increased, the elongation at the break increased first and decreased later. When the core–shell ratio was small and the mass fraction was between 5.0% and 15.0%, the coating had better liquid resistance. When the core–shell ratio was 0.67:1 and the mass fraction was 10.0%, the overall property of the coating on the Basswood was the best. The technology of microencapsulation provides a technical reference for the waterborne primer with self-repair qualities on the surface of wooden products.
