Abstract
Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), primarily derived from gut microbiota, play a role in regulating fetal development; however, the mechanism remains unclear. Fetal SCFAs levels depends on maternal SCFAs transported via the placenta. Metabolic stress, particularly from diabetes and obesity, can disrupt maternal SCFAs levels, impairing fetal metabolic reprogramming. Dysregulated SCFAs may negatively impact the development of the fetal cardiovascular, nervous, and immune systems, potentially contributing to adverse outcomes in adulthood. This review focuses on recent advances regarding the role of maternal SCFAs in shaping the metabolic profile of offspring, especially in the context of various maternal metabolic disorders. Given that SCFAs may influence fetal development through the placenta-embryo axis, targeted SCFAs supplementation could be a promising strategy against developmental diseases associated with intrauterine risk factors.

Abstract
Pregnancy is a unique physiological state in which the maternal body undergoes a series of changes in the metabolism of glucose, lipids, amino acids, and other nutrients in order to adapt to the altered state of pregnancy and provide adequate nutrients for the fetus' growth and development. The metabolism of various nutrients is regulated by one another in order to maintain homeostasis in the body. Failure to adapt to the altered physiological conditions of pregnancy can lead to a range of pregnancy issues, including fetal growth limitation and preeclampsia. A failure of metabolic adaptation during pregnancy is linked to the emergence of preeclampsia. The treatment of preeclampsia by focusing on metabolic changes may provide new therapeutic alternatives.

Abstract
Recent human and animal studies have delineated hypertension can develop in the earliest stage of life. A lack or excess of particular nutrients in the maternal diet may impact the expression of genes associated with BP, leading to an increased risk of hypertension in adulthood. Modulations in gene expression could be caused by epigenetic mechanisms through aberrant DNA methylation, histone modification, and microRNAs (miRNAs). Several molecular mechanisms for the developmental programming of hypertension, including oxidative stress, dysregulated nutrient-sensing signal, aberrant renin-angiotensin system, and dysbiotic gut microbiota have been associated with epigenetic programming. Conversely, maternal nutritional interventions such as amino acids, melatonin, polyphenols, resveratrol or short chain fatty acids may work as epigenetic modifiers to trigger protective epigenetic modifications and prevent offspring hypertension. We present a current perspective of maternal malnutrition that can cause fetal programming and the potential of epigenetic mechanisms lead to offspring hypertension. We also discuss the opportunities of dietary nutrients or nutraceuticals as epigenetic modifiers to counteract those adverse programming actions for hypertension prevention. The extent to which aberrant epigenetic changes can be reprogrammed or reversed by maternal dietary interventions in order to prevent human hypertension remains to be established. Continued research is necessary to evaluate the interaction between maternal malnutrition and epigenetic programming, as well as a greater focus on nutritional interventions for hypertension prevention towards their use in clinical translation.

Abstract
A balanced diet during gestation is critical for fetal development, and excessive intake of saturated fats during gestation and lactation is related to an increased risk of offspring kidney disease. Emerging evidence indicates that a maternal high-fat diet influences kidney health and disease of the offspring via so-called renal programming. This review summarizes preclinical research documenting the connection between a maternal high-fat diet during gestation and lactation and offspring kidney disease, as well as the molecular mechanisms behind renal programming, and early-life interventions to offset adverse programming processes. Animal models indicate that offspring kidney health can be improved via perinatal polyunsaturated fatty acid supplementation, gut microbiota changes, and modulation of nutrient-sensing signals. These findings reinforce the significance of a balanced maternal diet for the kidney health of offspring.
