Abstract
Using micro/nanorobots (MNRs) for targeted therapy within the human body is an emerging research direction in biomedical science. These nanoscale to microscale miniature robots possess specificity and precision that are lacking in most traditional treatment modalities. Currently, research on electrically controlled micro/nanorobots is still in its early stages, with researchers primarily focusing on the fabrication and manipulation of these robots to meet complex clinical demands. This review aims to compare the fabrication, powering, and locomotion of various electrically controlled micro/nanorobots, and explore their advantages, disadvantages, and potential applications.

Abstract
Nowadays, global water scarcity is becoming a pressing issue, and the discharge of various pollutants leads to the biological pollution of water bodies, which further leads to the poisoning of living organisms. Consequently, traditional water treatment methods are proving inadequate in addressing the growing demands of various industries. As an effective and eco-friendly water treatment method, micro/nanorobots is making significant advancements. Based on researches conducted between 2019 and 2023 in the field of water pollution using micro/nanorobots, this paper comprehensively reviews the development of micro/nanorobots in water pollution control from multiple perspectives, including propulsion methods, decontamination mechanisms, experimental techniques, and water monitoring. Furthermore, this paper highlights current challenges and provides insights into the future development of the industry, providing guidance on biological water pollution control.

Abstract
Both passive and active microfluidic chips are used in many biomedical and chemical applications to support fluid mixing, particle manipulations, and signal detection. Passive microfluidic devices are geometry-dependent, and their uses are rather limited. Active microfluidic devices include sensors or detectors that transduce chemical, biological, and physical changes into electrical or optical signals. Also, they are transduction devices that detect biological and chemical changes in biomedical applications, and they are highly versatile microfluidic tools for disease diagnosis and organ modeling. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the significant advances that have been made in the development of microfluidics devices. We will discuss the function of microfluidic devices as micromixers or as sorters of cells and substances (e.g., microfiltration, flow or displacement, and trapping). Microfluidic devices are fabricated using a range of techniques, including molding, etching, three-dimensional printing, and nanofabrication. Their broad utility lies in the detection of diagnostic biomarkers and organ-on-chip approaches that permit disease modeling in cancer, as well as uses in neurological, cardiovascular, hepatic, and pulmonary diseases. Biosensor applications allow for point-of-care testing, using assays based on enzymes, nanozymes, antibodies, or nucleic acids (DNA or RNA). An anticipated development in the field includes the optimization of techniques for the fabrication of microfluidic devices using biocompatible materials. These developments will increase biomedical versatility, reduce diagnostic costs, and accelerate diagnosis time of microfluidics technology.

Abstract
HYPOTHESIS The interaction of active particles with walls can explain discrepancies between experiments and theory derived for particles in the bulk. For an electric field driven metallodielectric Janus particle (JP) adjacent to an electrode, interaction between the asymmetric particle and the partially screened electrode yields a net electrostatic force - termed self-dielectrophoresis (sDEP) - that competes with induced-charge electrophoresis (ICEP) to reverse particle direction. EXPERIMENTS The potential contribution of hydrodynamic flow to the reversal is evaluated by visualizing flow around a translating particle via micro-particle image velocimetry and chemically suppressing ICEP with poly(l-lysine)-g-poly(ethylene glycol) (PLL-PEG). Mobility of Polystyrene-Gold JPs is measured in KCl electrolytes of varying concentration and with a capacitive SiO2 coating at the metallic JP surface or electrode. Results are compared with theory and numerical simulations accounting for electrode screening. FINDINGS PLL-PEG predominantly suppresses low-frequency mobility where propulsive electro-hydrodynamic jetting is observed; supporting the hypothesis of an electrostatic driving force at high frequencies. Simulations and theory show the magnitude, direction and frequency dispersion of JP mobility are obtained by superposition of ICEP and sDEP using the JP height and capacitance as fitting parameters. Wall proximity enhances ICEP and sDEP and manifests a secondary ICEP charge relaxation time dominating in the contact limit.

Abstract
We present a theoretical study of the hydrodynamic and electrokinetic response of both metallic spherical polarized colloids as well as metallodielectic Janus particles, which are subjected to an arbitrary non-uniform ambient electric field (DC or AC forcing). The analysis is based on employing the linearized ‘standard’ model (Poisson–Nernst–Planck formulation) and on the assumptions of a ‘weak’ field and small Debye scale. In particular, we consider cases of linear and helical time-harmonic travelling-wave excitations and provide explicit expressions for the resulting dielectrophoretic and induced-charge electrophoretic forces and moments, exerted on freely suspended particles. The new analytic expressions thus derived for the linear and angular velocities of the initially uncharged polarizable particle are compared against some available solutions. We also analyze the levitation problem (including stability) of metallic and Janus particles placed in a cylindrical (insulating or conducting) pore near a powered electrode.

Abstract
A hybrid micromotor is an active colloid powered by more than one power source, often exhibiting expanded functionality and controllability than those of a singular energy source. However, these power sources are often applied orthogonally, leading to stacked propulsion that is just a sum of two independent mechanisms. Here, we report that TiO2-Pt Janus micromotors, when subject to both UV light and AC electric fields, move up to 90% faster than simply adding up the speed powered by either source. This unexpected synergy between light and electric fields, we propose, arises from the fact that an electrokinetically powered TiO2-Pt micromotor moves near a substrate with a tilted Janus interface that, upon the application of an electric field, becomes rectified to be vertical to the substrate. Control experiments with magnetic fields and three types of micromotors unambiguously and quantitatively show that the tilting angle of a micromotor correlates positively with its instantaneous speed, reaching maximum at a vertical Janus interface. Such "tilting-induced retardation" could affect a wide variety of chemically powered micromotors, and our findings are therefore helpful in understanding the dynamics of micromachines in confinement.

Abstract
Induced-charge electrokinetics (ICEK) remains a hot topic due to its promising applications in micro- and nano-fluidics. Over the past decade, researchers have made a great advancement in both fundamental studies and application developments. They captured (I) a flow reversal in induced-charge electroosmosis (ICEO) and attributed it to the phase delay effect of ions, (II) a chaotic ICEO and attributed it to the concentration polarization in the bulk solution, (III) a non-quadratic correlation for ICEO of non-Newtonian fluids and attributed it to the power-law viscosity, (IV) an induced-charge electrophoretic (ICEP) rotation of Janus doublets, etc. Furthermore, various ICEK-based micro- and nano-fluidic devices have been developed, namely, micropumps, particle focusers, trappers, sorters, and nanopore ion diodes. The present article provides a comprehensive review on the recent advancement of ICEK. Firstly, the fundamental studies of ICEK are introduced; then the micro- and nano-fluidic applications based on ICEK are presented; lastly, promising future directions for both fundamental and applications are discussed. This review presents the basic framework of ICEK, and can facilitate the development of ICEK-based applications.
