Abstract
There is an urgent need to develop safer and more effective modalities for the treatment of numerous pathologies due to the increasing rates of drug resistance, undesired side effects, poor clinical outcomes, etc. Over the past decades, cyclodextrins (CDs) have gathered great attention as potential drug carriers due to their ability to enhance their bioactivities and properties. Likewise, selenium (Se) and tellurium (Te) have been extensively studied during the last decades due to their possible therapeutical applications. Although there is limited research on the relationship between Se and Te and CDs, herein, we highlight different representative examples of the advances related to this topic as well as give our view on the future directions of this emerging area of research. This review encompasses three different aspects of this relationship: (1) modification of the structure of the different CDs; (2) formation of host-guest interaction complexes of naïve CDs with Se and Te derivatives in order to overcome specific limitations of the latter; and (3) the use of CDs as catalysts to achieve novel Se and Te compounds.

Abstract
As a part of our ongoing endeavor towards developing novel heterocyclic architectures, a number of novel Se-containing tricyclic heterocycles of the type [1,3]selenazolo[5,4-e][1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-c]pyrimidine have been synthesized through heteroannulation of a newly produced hydrazino derivative of selenazolo[4,5-d]pyrimidine with either orthoesters or carbon disulfide in pyridine followed by S-alkylation. Moreover, the multistep protocol employed in this investigation provides a new insight into the Dimroth rearrangement in both acidic and basic media as a means for the cyclocondensation of triazole on the selenazolopyrimidine framework leading to selenazolotriazolopyrimidines. The synthesis of new derivatives of novel selenazolotriazolopyrimidines via Dimroth rearrangement in both acidic and basic media is presented.

Abstract
Incorporation of selenium (Se) atom into small molecules can substantially enhance their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimutagenic, antitumoral or chemopreventive, antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic, and neuroprotective effects. Specifically, selenazo compounds have received great attention owing to their chemical properties, pharmaceutical applications, and low toxicity. In this Perspective, we compile extensive literature evidence with the description and discussion of the most recent advances in different selenazo and selenadiazo motifs as potential pharmacological candidates. We also provide some perspectives on the challenges and future directions in the advancement of these selenazo compounds, each of which could generate drug candidates for various diseases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Bacterial multidrug resistance (MDR) constitutes a major hurdle in the treatment of infectious diseases worldwide. The present study was designed to evaluate the antibacterial activities of synthetic p-toluenesulfonyl-hydrazinothiazoles against multidrug resistant Gram-negative bacteria. METHODS The broth microdilution method was used to determine the minimal inhibitory concentrations (MIC). RESULTS The results demonstrated that the best activities were obtained with hydrazinoselenazoles. p-Chloro-benzyliden-selenosemicarbazide, 4-methyl-2-[(4-chloro-benzyliden)-hydrazinyl]-1,3-selenazole, p-chloro-benzoyl-selenosemicarbazide and 4-chloromethyl-2-[(4-chlorobenziliden)-N-acetyl-hydrazinyl]-1,3-selenazole were more active than the choramphenicol on Klebsiella pneumoniae KP63. Tested alone, the lowest MIC value of 16 mg/L was obtained with p-methoxy-benzyliden-selenosemicarbazide against Enterobacter aerogenes ATCC13048, K. pneumoniae ATCC112296 and KP55. Tested in the presence of an efflux pump inhibitor, phenylalanine arginine β-naphthylamide (PAβN), the activity of p-chloro-benzyliden-selenosemicarbazide, 4-methyl-2-[(4-chloro-benzyliden)-hydrazinyl]-1,3-selenazole, p-chloro-benzoyl-selenosemicarbazide and p-methoxy-benzyliden-selenosemicarbazide significantly increased with MIC values below 10 mg/L obtained respectively on 43.8 %, 31.3 %, 62.5 % and 100 % of the 16 tested bacterial strains. The lowest MIC value of 0.5 mg/L in the presence of PAβN was recorded with p-chloro-benzoyl-selenosemicarbazide against Escherichia coli ATCC8739 and KP55 as well as p-methoxy-benzyliden-selenosemicarbazide against E. aerogenes KP55. p-Chloro-benzyliden-selenosemicarbazide and p-chloro-benzoyl-selenosemicarbazide contained the same pharmacophore as p-methoxy-benzyliden-selenosemicarbazide. CONCLUSION This study indicates that p-chloro-benzyliden-selenosemicarbazide, p-chloro-benzoyl-selenosemicarbazide and p-methoxy-benzyliden-selenosemicarbazide could be explored more to develop novel antimicrobial drugs to fight MDR bacterial infections.

Abstract
A series of novel 1,3-selenazole-containing 1,3,4-thiadiazole derivatives bearing Schiff base moieties were synthesized and evaluated for their in vitro antiproliferative activities against human breast cancer cell MCF-7 and mouse lymphocyte leukemia cell L1210 by CCK-8 assay. The majority of the compounds showed better activity against MCF-7 cell, compared with lead compound PCS. In particular, compound 6c was the most potent compound with IC50 value of 4.02 μM.
