Tri-insertion with dearomatization of terminal arylalkynes using a carborane based frustrated Lewis pair template

Intramolecular vicinal Frustrated Lewis Pairs (FLPs) have played a significant role in the activation of small molecules, and their stabilities and reactivities are found to strongly depend on the nature of the bridging units. This work reports a new carborane based FLP, 1-PPh₂-2-BPh₂-1,2-C₂B₁₀H₁₀ (2), which reacts with an equimolar amount of p-R₂NC₆H₄C Created by potrace 1.16, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2019 ]]> CH (R = Me, Et, Ph) at room temperature to give CC triple bond addition products 1,2-[PPh₂C(R₂NC₆H₄) Created by potrace 1.16, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2019 ]]> CHBPh₂]-1,2-C₂B₁₀H₁₀ (3) in high yields. Compounds 3 react further with two equiv. of p-R₂NC₆H₄CCH (R = Me, Et) at 60–70 °C to give unprecedented stereoselective tri-insertion products, 3,3a,6,6a-tetrahydronaphtho[1,8a-b]borole tricycles (4), in which one of the aryl rings from arylacetylene moieties has been dearomatized with the formation of four stereocenters including one quaternary carbon center. It is noted that the phosphine unit functions as a catalyst during the reactions. After trapping and structural characterization of a key intermediate, a reaction mechanism is proposed, involving sequential alkyne insertion and 1,2-boryl migration.

Donor-acceptor-stabilised germanium analogues of acid chloride, ester, and acyl pyrrole compounds: synthesis and reactivity

Germaacid chloride, germaester, and N-germaacyl pyrrole compounds were not known previously. Therefore, donor-acceptor-stabilised germaacid chloride (i-Bu)₂ATIGe(O)(Cl) → B(C₆F₅)₃ (1), germaester (i-Bu)₂ATIGe(O)(OSiPh₃) → B(C₆F₅)₃ (2), and N-germaacyl pyrrole (i-Bu)₂ATIGe(O)(NC₄H₄) → B(C₆F₅)₃ (3) compounds, with Cl-Ge[double bond, length as m-dash]O, Ph₃SiO-Ge[double bond, length as m-dash]O, and C₄H₄N-Ge[double bond, length as m-dash]O moieties, respectively, are reported here. Germaacid chloride 1 reacts with PhCCLi, KOt-Bu, and RLi (R = Ph, Me) to afford donor-acceptor-stabilised germaynone (i-Bu)₂ATIGe(O)(CCPh) → B(C₆F₅)₃ (4), germaester (i-Bu)₂ATIGe(O)(Ot-Bu) → B(C₆F₅)₃ (5), and germanone (i-Bu)₂ATIGe(O)(R) → B(C₆F₅)₃ (R = Ph 6, Me 7) compounds, respectively. Interconversion between a germaester and a germaacid chloride is achieved; reaction of germaesters 2 and 5 with TMSCl gave germaacid chloride 1, and 1 reacted with Ph₃SiOLi and KOt-Bu to produce germaesters 2 and 5. Reaction of N-germaacyl pyrrole 3 with thiophenol produced a donor-acceptor-stabilised germaacyl thioester (i-Bu)₂ATIGe(O)(SPh) → B(C₆F₅)₃ (10). Furthermore, the attempted syntheses of germaamides and germacarboxylic acids are also discussed.

Computational and experimental investigation on the BCl3 promoted intramolecular amination of alkenes and alkynes

The BCl₃ promoted aminoboration of alkenes and alkynes was investigated both computationally and experimentally, leading to the discovery of a metal-free hydroamination of alkynes.

Contrasting Frustrated Lewis Pair Reactivity with Selenium- and Boron-Based Lewis Acids

The activation of π-bonds in diynyl esters has been investigated by using soft and hard Lewis acids. In the case of the soft selenium Lewis acid PhSeCl, sequential activation of the alkyne bonds leads initially to an isocoumarin (1 equiv PhSeCl) and then to a tetracyclic conjugated structure with the isocoumarin subunit fused to a benzoselenopyran (3 equiv PhSeCl). Conversely, the reaction with the hard Lewis acidic borane B(C6 F5 )3 initiates a cascade reaction to yield a complex π-conjugated system containing phthalide and indene subunits.

The Preparation of Complexes of Germanone from a Germanium μ-Oxo Dimer

Complexes of germanone containing formal Ge=O→M bonds (M=Zn, B, Ge, Sn) were isolated and characterized. The compounds were prepared through a novel synthetic route using a germanium μ-oxo dimer 3 as the starting material. This method circumvents the need to employ germanones to prepare complexes of germanones.
