Abstract
Carbenes (R2C:), compounds with a divalent carbon atom containing only six valence shell electrons, have evolved into a broader class with the replacement of the carbene carbon or the RC moiety with main group elements, leading to the creation of main group carbene analogues. These analogues, mirroring the electronic structure of carbenes (a lone pair of electrons and an empty orbital), demonstrate unique reactivity. Over the last three decades, this area has seen substantial advancements, paralleling the innovations in carbene chemistry. Recent studies have revealed a spectrum of unique carbene analogues, such as monocoordinate aluminylenes, nitrenes, and bismuthinidenes, notable for their extraordinary properties and diverse reactivity, offering promising applications in small molecule activation. This review delves into the isolable main group carbene analogues that are in the forefront from 2010 and beyond, spanning elements from group 13 (B, Al, Ga, In, and Tl), group 14 (Si, Ge, Sn, and Pb) and group 15 (N, P, As, Sb, and Bi). Specifically, this review focuses on the potential amphiphilic species that possess both lone pairs of electrons and vacant orbitals. We detail their comprehensive synthesis and stabilization strategies, outlining the reactivity arising from their distinct structural characteristics.

Abstract
The reactions of cyclic (alkyl)(amino)germylenes (CAAGe) with copper(I) and gold(I) complexes were investigated. CAAGe (1) reacts with CuBr(SMe2 ) leading to a tetrameric germylene complex [CAAGeCuBr]4 (2), whereas CAAGe (3) undergoes Au-Cl bond insertion with LAuCl (L=phosphine or N-heterocyclic carbene) to afford germanium gold(I) complexes (5 and 6). Chlorine abstraction of 6 gives the cationic germylene gold(I) complex 7.

Abstract
[NHC → GeN(Ar)Cu2NAr]2, the formal adduct of germanium analogue of organic isonitrile [GeNAr] with Cu(I) imide [(Cu2NAr)2] (Ar = 2,6-iPr2C6H3) was prepared from the N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) stabilized acyclic germylene Ge[N(H)Ar]2 by reacting with two equivalents of nBuLi and CuCl(PPh3)3. As elucidated by X-ray crystal structural characterization, the two separated [GeNAr] moieties interacted with [(Cu2NAr)2] core in the side-on mode.

Abstract
Quantum chemical calculations have been carried out on a series of skeletally modified cyclic alkyl amino silylenes (CAASis) and germylenes (CAAGes) to understand their ligand properties and reactivity towards the activation of a variety of small molecules. The installation of boron or silicon atoms into the ring framework of these silylenes/germylenes led to a dramatic increase in their σ-basicity while the incorporation of ylidic moieties resulted in a sharp reduction of their π-acidity although it did help in increasing the electron donation ability. The calculated values of energy barriers for the activation of H-H, N-H, C-H and Si-H bonds by many of the cyclic silylenes considered here are found to be comparable to those for experimentally evaluated systems, indicating the potential of these computationally designed molecules in small molecule activation and calling for synthetic efforts towards their isolation. Furthermore, activations employing CAAGes are found to be more demanding than those with CAASis which may be attributed to the significantly lower Lewis basicity of the former than the latter.

Abstract
Since the groundbreaking discovery in 2018 that the synthesis of a bottleable nucleophilic aluminyl anion is feasible, a handful of derivatives have been developed to date, which are, however, limited to diamino- and dialkyl-substituted species. Herein, we report the synthesis of a cyclic (alkyl)(amino)aluminyl anion based on a five-membered framework. The dicoordinate aluminum center features both a lone pair of electrons and an unoccupied 3p orbital, thus genuinely making it isoelectronic with carbenes. We show the bond formation and bond activation at the Al sphere: thus, not only does it undergo electron redistribution with borane to furnish a heteroatomic group 13 ring exhibiting a σ-aromatic nature concomitant with a three-center two-electron AlB2 bond but also the ambiphilic nature allows for oxidative addition of Si-H, N-H, and even C-C bonds at the aluminum center.

Abstract
Boragermene 3 featuring a double bond between the Ge and dicoordinate B atoms has been synthesized for the first time by reacting the cyclic (alkyl)(boryl)germylene-PMe3 adduct 1 with Cl2 BN(SiMe3 )2 followed by reductive dehalogenation with KC8 . Addition of a Lewis base (Me NHC) to 3 leads to the formation of the corresponding adduct 4, which shows double bond character between the Ge and tricoordinate B atoms. Compound 3 undergoes hydrogenation with H2 concomitant with a complete scission of the Ge=B bond.

Abstract
A cyclic (alkyl)(amino)germylene undergoes a ring expansion reaction with dibromomesitylborane (MesBBr2 ) to afford a six-membered dibromogermane derivative. In the presence of Lewis bases (PMe3 or Me NHC), reduction of the latter with two equivalents of potassium graphite (KC8 ) gives rise to cyclic (alkyl)(boryl)germylene-Lewis base adducts. Upon heating, the germylene-PMe3 adduct reacts with H2 to yield a germane, probably via a base-free germylene featuring a small HOMO-LUMO gap.

Abstract
Quantum chemical calculations have been carried out to explore the detailed electronic structure and bonding scenario in various bis-donor stabilized E2 compounds (E = C-Pb). Our computational findings reveal that the thermodynamic stabilities of the E2 core gradually decrease as we move down the group. A linear D-E-E'-D framework is observed for C2 systems, while the heavier group 14 analogues possess trans-bent geometries. Consideration of few compounds as viable targets for synthesis is suggested by their corresponding calculated formation energies. In addition, the thermodynamic stabilities of C2 systems notably increase with the saturation of the donor ring framework and are even more pronounced for boron-substituted saturated NHD ligand. QTAIM calculations affirmed that the covalent nature of E-E' bonds shifts toward the donor-acceptor region as one traverses from top to bottom along group 14. The E-D and E'-D bonds in the C2 systems have covalent nature, whereas those in Si2-Pb2 systems are characterized by donor-acceptor bonds. In addition, we have computed proton affinities and vertical ionization potentials (VIPs) of these compounds. An excellent correlation was obtained between calculated VIPs and orbital energies of HOMOs. Furthermore, in the present study, we also explored the effect of bis-donors in the stabilization of heterodiatomic SiC compounds. Our calculations indicate that a typical bonding description of the SiC(D)2 compounds should be represented by a combination of a classical double bond between C-D with significant donor-acceptor interaction in Si-D, i.e., D → Si═C═D. The SiC(D)2 systems are found to be less stable than the corresponding dicarbon compounds C2(D)2, but they show significant stabilization compared to the corresponding disilicon systems Si2(D)2.

Abstract
A borane B(C6 F5 )3 -catalyzed metathesis reaction between the Si-C bond in the cyclic (alkyl)(amino)germylene (CAAGe) 1 and the Si-H bond in a silane (R3 SiH; 2) is reported. Mechanistic studies propose that the initial step of the reaction involves Si-H bond activation to furnish an ionic species [1-SiR3 ]+ [HB(C6 F5 )3 ]- , from which [Me3 Si]+ [HB(C6 F5 )3 ]- and an azagermole intermediate are generated. The former yields Me3 SiH concomitant with the regeneration of B(C6 F5 )3 whereas the latter undergoes isomerization to afford CAAGes bearing various silyl groups on the carbon atom next to the germylene center. This strategy allows the straightforward synthesis of eight new CAAGes starting from 1.
