A Highly Efficient Heterogeneous Catalyst of Bimetal-Organic Frameworks for the Epoxidation of Olefin with H2O2

Bimetallic MnZn-MOF-74 with enhanced percentage of MnIII: Efficiently catalytic activity for direct oxidative carboxylation of olefins to cyclic carbonates under mild and solvent-free condition

Multi-functional MOF catalyst with oxidative- and acid- centers showed potential in olefins oxidative carboxylation to cyclic carbonates directly. In this work, a series of bimetallic MnZn-MOF-74 with different molar ratios of Mn and Zn were synthesized successfully through a one-pot facile method. Thoroughly characterization indicated that the existence of Zn regulated the valance state distribution of Mn in the obtained MnZn-MOF-74. Mn99.3Zn0.7-MOF-74 with the highest ratio of MnIII (61.3 %) performed the most efficient activity for olefin direct tandem oxidative carboxylation reaction using aqueous tert-butyl hydroperoxide oxidant under solvent-free condition of 90 °C, 1.0 MPa CO2 and 4 h. Mn99.3Zn0.7-MOF-74 also showed satisfactory versatility and recyclability. Based on the experiments, a feasible mechanism was presented. Thanks to the high ratio of active MnIII as main oxidative center, the coordination unsaturated bimetal Mn and Zn as Lewis-acid sites, O2- of metal - O as Lewis-base sites and combined effect with Bu4NBr cocatalyst, Mn99.3Zn0.7-MOF-74 presented efficient performance for the direct synthesis of cyclic carbonates from olefins. The metal Zn in MOF can regulate the valance state distribution of Mn and result in efficient catalytic property, presenting a potential avenue for direct oxidative carboxylation reaction of olefins to cyclic carbonates synthesis.

Dual-Ligand Strategy for the Design and Construction of a Cd-Zn Heterometallic Metal-Organic Framework by One-Pot Synthesis as a Heterogeneous Catalyst for the Epoxidation Reaction of Olefins

The use of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as catalysts is reported in various industrial applications. In contrast to monometallic MOFs, heterometallic MOFs with mixed organic ligands showed enhanced catalytic properties. The catalytic properties of heterometallic MOFs can be enhanced by generating defects and the synergistic effect between the two heterometals at secondary building units. By using a solvothermal technique, a Cd-Zn heterometallic MOF with a new morphology, [Cd2Zn(DPTTZ)0.5(OBA)3(H2O)(HCOOH)] (IUST-4) [DPTTZ = 2,5-di(4-pyridyl)thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole, OBA = 4,4'-oxybis(benzoic acid)], was synthesized via a mixed-ligand strategy and characterized by single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis. X-ray crystallographic analysis showed that IUST-4 is a neutral 3D metal-organic framework crystallized in the monoclinic system with space group C2/c. In this study, the catalytic properties of IUST-4 for the epoxidation of cyclooctene were investigated. IUST-4 was selected as the optimal catalyst for epoxy product production due to its high selectivity and yield. Moreover, the catalytic performance of IUST-4 was maintained despite five recycling cycles without significant degradation. The epoxidation of cyclooctene with IUST-4 has several advantages, including good selectivity, easy recovery, and short-time reaction.

Hydrothermal Modification of TS-1 Zeolites with Organic Amines and Salts to Construct Highly Selective Catalysts for Cyclopentene Epoxidation

Developing efficient heterogeneous catalysts for cyclic olefins epoxidation is highly attractive for meeting the growing need for various cyclic epoxides. Herein, hierarchical TS-1 zeolite with relatively abundant mesopores and less amount of surface hydroxyl groups was obtained by hydrothermal modification of an as-synthesized TS-1 zeolite with a mixed solution of ammonia, tetrapropylammonium bromide (TPABr) and KCl. The post-modified TS-1 zeolite exhibited much higher catalytic activity (52% conversion) and epoxide selectivity (98%) for the epoxidation of cyclopentene than the conventional TS-1 zeolites. The excellent catalytic activity of the hierarchical TS-1 could be mainly assigned to the enhancement of the mass transport ability and the accessibility of the active Ti species, while the improvement of epoxidation selectivity may be mainly related to the introduction of a certain amount of K+ that can effectively modulate the coordination environment of Ti species as well as the polarity of the zeolite. This work demonstrated that a highly active and selective catalyst for the H2O2-mediated cyclopentene epoxidation could be obtained by concurrently generating mesopore and extinguishing the unfavorable defective hydroxyl groups through the simple hydrothermal treatment of the conventional TS-1 zeolite with a mixed base/salt solution.

Metal Organic Frameworks as Heterogeneous Catalysts in Olefin Epoxidation and Carbon Dioxide Cycloaddition

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are a family of porous crystalline materials that serve in some cases as versatile platforms for catalysis. In this review, we overview the recent developments about the use of these species as heterogeneous catalysts in olefin epoxidation and carbon dioxide cycloaddition. We report the most important results obtained in this field relating them to the presence of specific organic linkers, metal nodes or clusters and mixed-metal species. Recent advances obtained with MOF nanocomposites were also described. Finally we compare the results and summarize the major insights in specific Tables, outlining the major challenges for this emerging field. This work could promote new research aimed at producing coordination polymers and MOFs able to catalyse a broader range of CO2 consuming reactions.

Metal Organic Frameworks Derived Fe-N-C Nanostructures as High-Performance Electrodes for Sodium Ion Batteries and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) Shielding

Metal organic framework (MOF)-derived carbon nanostructures (MDC) synthesized by either calcinations or carbonization or pyrolysis are emerging as attractive materials for a wide range of applications like batteries, super-capacitors, sensors, water treatment, etc. But the process of transformation of MOFs into MDCs is time-consuming, with reactions requiring inert atmospheres and reaction time typically running into hours. In this manuscript, we report the transformation of 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane, (DABCO)-based MOFs into iron nitride nanoparticles embedded in nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes by simple, fast and facile microwave pyrolysis. By using graphene oxide and carbon fiber as microwave susceptible surfaces, three-dimensional nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes vertically grown on reduced graphene oxide (MDNCNT@rGO) and carbon fibers (MDCNT@CF), respectively, were obtained, whose utility as anode material in sodium-ion batteries (MDNCNT@rGO) and for EMI (electromagnetic interference) shielding material (MDCNT@CF) is reported.

H5PV2Mo10O40 encapsulated into Cu3(BTC)2 as an efficient heterogeneous nanocrystalline catalyst for styrene epoxidation

The nanocrystalline catalyst HPMoV@Cu₃(BTC)₂ prepared using a liquid-assisted grinding method showed excellent catalytic activity for the epoxidation of styrene in O₂.
