Abstract
Bisphosphonates are used to treat a number of bone related diseases such as osteosarcoma, malignant hypercalcemia, osteomyelitis. Developing novel drug delivery systems may overcome the adverse reactions caused by traditional administration. This study uses a combination of molecular docking studies and correlation techniques between structure – physical and chemical properties to assess how different bisphosphonates (alendronate, risedronate, pamidronate, zoledronate) interact with polydopamine in order to later design new formulations. The structure of polydopamine is still under discussion therefore, its bisphosphonate binding properties have not been completely established. Polydopamine was modeled by repeated docking of tetrameric subunits combined in two ways which led to simple and mixed oligomers. Fingerprint descriptors, namely electronegativity of the OMO-UMO quantum molecular states, were used for the correlation studies. The correlation coefficients suggest that several atom species such as nitrogen and carbon have increased contributions to the formation of both HOMO and LUMO molecular states. The results showed that the most stable complex was obtained with risedronate for both simple and mixed dopamine oligomers (-186.00 kJ/mol and -184.92 kJ/mol).

Abstract
Background The use of antibiotics with or without prescription is increasing worldwide. With certain limitations, metronidazole (MTZ) is extensively used as an antibacterial and antiparasitic drug. Derivatives of 1,2,4-oxadiazole (ODZ) are used to modify the chemical structure of drugs. The present study aimed to synthesize new MTZ-ODZ derivatives that could potentially lead to new medications. Methods The reaction of MTZ with ethyl chloroacetate and potassium carbonate anhydrous was used to produce compound 7. This compound was treated with hydrazine hydrate in methanol to obtain compound 8. Carbon disulfide and potassium hydroxide were then added to obtain compound 9, which was then mixed with various α-haloketones to obtain compounds 10a to 10f. Subsequently, the structures of the new MTZ-ODZ derivatives were determined. Results All new compounds exhibited excellent activity against all tested organisms. The synthesized compounds showed a significant radical scavenging activity. The IC50 value for compounds 10a, 10b, 10c, 10d, 10e, and 10f was 70.42±0.15, 70.52±0.54, 85.21±0.85, 80.10±0.46, 82.52±0.13, and 70.45±0.12 g/mL, respectively. In terms of antigiardial activity, the IC50 value for compounds 10a,10b, 10c, and 10d ranged from 1.31±0.11 µM to 2.26±0.49 µM. In contrast, the IC50 for MTZ was 3.71±0.27 µM. Compound 10f showed the highest antigiardial activity with an IC50 value of 0.88±0.52 µM. Conclusion Most of the MTZ-ODZ derivatives showed high radical scavenging activity in the benzene ring due to the activation of certain groups, such as OCH3, NO2, and OH. The results suggest that the newly synthesized compounds could be used as an antiparasitic drug.

Abstract
A new chemistry of azo compounds, that is, addition of free radicals generated in situ to access various acyl hydrazides, has been developed. The protocol provides a novel strategy for the synthesis of valuable acyl hydrazides. The transformation features mild reaction conditions, good tolerance of functional groups, and a broad substrate scope. In view of the importance of acyl hydrazides in functional materials and medicinal chemistry, this approach would find broad applications.

Abstract
Graphite was oxidized to graphene oxide and activated by thionyl chloride, for further covalently linking three hydrazides with potential biological activity. The obtained materials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared and Raman spectroscopies. The presence of various functional groups specific to graphene oxide (GO) functionalized with different hydrazides was confirmed by spectral data. The ratio between D- and G-bands, observed in Raman spectra, allowed for an evaluation of the disorder degree and the mean crystallite size of the samples. The micrographs highlighted that the samples lead to the occurrence of disorders, probably caused by the sp3 carbons, the formation of oxygen-containing functional groups in the basal planes, and by various structural defects. The new graphene oxide–hydrazide derivatives were tested for their antimicrobial and cytotoxicity activity. Their antimicrobial activity against planktonic and biofilm-embedded cells was inferior to that of free hydrazides, except for GO-3 against planktonic Escherichia coli and GO-2 against Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm, demonstrating that further optimization is needed to be able to exploit the huge potential of GO for developing potent antimicrobials.

Resveratrol Modulation of Apoptosis and Cell Cycle Response to Cisplatin in Head and Neck Cancer Cell Lines. Int J Mol Sci 2021; 22:ijms22126322. Abstract
In head and neck cancers, the effectiveness of cisplatin (CisPt) treatment is limited by its toxicity, especially when higher doses are necessary, and the possible occurrence of cisplatin resistance. This study evaluated the effects of resveratrol (RSV) on the expression of different genes involved in the response of human tumor cells (FaDu, PE/CA-PJ49) to cisplatin therapy. Our results revealed that RSV induced apoptosis amplification in both FaDu and PE/CA-PJ49 cells and modulated the expression of specific genes differently than in normal HaCaT cells. In FaDu cells, combined CisPt + RSV treatment induced an increase in apoptosis, which was associated with an increase in c-MYC and TP53 and a decrease in BCL-2 expression. While CisPt + RSV treatment induced apoptosis in PE/CA-PJ49 cells by inhibition of BCL-2 associated with high levels of MDM-2 and subsequently led to inhibition of TP53 gene expression. Decreased c-MYC expression in PE/CA-PJ49 treated with CisPt + RSV was accompanied by cell cycle blockage in G0/G1 phase. In conclusion, RSV influences tumor cell response to CisPt by inducing apoptosis and modulating gene expression. In addition, in normal HaCaT cells, RSV was able to reduce the harmful effects of CisPt.

Abstract
Heterocyclic derivatives are unavoidable in many fields of natural disciplines. These derivatives play numerous significant roles in research, medication, and nature. Nitrogenous heterocyclic derivatives extremely are the main target of concern in synthetic chemistry to ensue active natural products with pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals interest. Benzimidazole skeleton is another example of some active heterocyclic moiety that significantly contributes in the numerous bioactive of essential compounds. Benzimidazole skeleton is studied as a prominent moiety of biologically active compounds with various activities including antimicrobial, antiprotozoal, anticancer, antiviral, acetylcholinesterase, antihistaminic, anti-inflammatory, antimalarial, analgesic, anti-HIV and antitubercular. Therefore, in this review we summarize the various antiviral activities of several benzimidazole derivatives and outline the correlation among the structures of different benzimidazoles scaffold with their therapeutic significance.
