Abstract
Variable temperature electron paramagnetic resonance (VT-EPR) was used to investigate the role of the environment and oxidation states of several coordinated Eu compounds. We find that while Eu(III) chelating complexes are diamagnetic, simple chemical reduction results in the formation of paramagnetic species. In agreement with the distorted D3h symmetry of Eu molecular complexes investigated in this study, the EPR spectrum of reduced complexes showed axially symmetric signals (g⊥ = 2.001 and g∥ = 1.994) that were successfully simulated with two Eu isotopes with nuclear spin 5/2 (151Eu and 153Eu with 48% and 52% natural abundance, respectively) and nuclear g-factors 151Eu/153Eu = 2.27. Illumination of water-soluble complex Eu(dipic)3 at 4 K led to the ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) that resulted in the formation of Eu(II) in a rhombic environment (gx = 2.006, gy = 1.995, gz = 1.988). The existence of LMCT affects the luminescence of Eu(dipic)3, and pre-reduction of the complex to Eu(II)(dipic)3 reversibly reduces red luminescence with the appearance of a weak CT blue luminescence. Furthermore, encapsulation of a large portion of the dipic ligand with Cucurbit[7]uril, a pumpkin-shaped macrocycle, inhibited ligand-to-metal charge transfer, preventing the formation of Eu(II) upon illumination.

Synthesis of Novel Luminescent Double-Decker Silsesquioxanes Based on Partially Condensed TetraSilanolPhenyl POSS and Tb3+/Eu3+ Lanthanide Ions. Processes (Basel) 2022. Abstract
In this study, novel lanthanide-containing double-decker polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) were prepared by combining the partially condensed TetraSilanolPhenyl POSS with terbium (Tb3+) and europium (Eu3+) ions. This open-cage POSS possesses four diametrically opposite silanol groups that are able to coordinate, under mild conditions, different luminescent ions through a simple corner-capping method. The two metal-containing POSS functionalized with Tb3+ and with an equimolar combination of Tb3+ and Eu3+ show a completely condensed structure with different luminescent properties. Their emission features depend on the chemical nature of the metal ions incorporated in the framework. An improved stokes shift was detected in the bimetallic compound containing both the Tb3+ and Eu3+ ions, promoted by the occurrence of a Tb3+→Eu3+ energy transfer mechanism. These characteristics identify this metal-functionalized silica platform as a potential candidate for the development of novel luminescent devices.

Abstract
Undoped Y2Sn2O7 and Eu3+ doped Y2Sn2O7 samples with doping concentrations 7%, 8%, 9%, and 10% are successfully synthesized by the co-precipitation method. A complete structural, morphological, and spectroscopic characterization is carried out. XRD measurements reveal that samples crystallize in the pure single pyrochlore phase and Eu3+ ions occupy sites with D3d symmetry. After mechanical grinding, the average crystallite size is less than 100 nm for all compositions. Optical characterization shows emission from the 5D0 level towards the lower lying 7F0,1,2,3,4 levels. The CIE color coordinates of all the pyrochlore phosphors are very close to those of the ideal red light. For the visualization of latent fingerprints, different surfaces are tested, including difficult ones (wood and ceramic), with excellent results. All three levels of fingerprint ridge patterns are visualized: core (Level 1), bifurcation and termination (Level 2), and sweat pores (Level 3). Moreover, our nano-powders are used to prepare a stable fluorescent ink.

Exceptionally efficient deep blue anthracene-based luminogens: design, synthesis, photophysical, and electroluminescent mechanisms. Sci Bull (Beijing) 2021; 66:2090-2098. Abstract
Achieving high-efficiency deep blue emitter with CIEy < 0.06 (CIE, Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage) and external quantum efficiency (EQE) >10% has been a long-standing challenge for traditional fluorescent materials in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Here, we report the rational design and synthesis of two new deep blue luminogens: 4-(10-(4'-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)-2,5-dimethyl-[1,1'-biphenyl]-4-yl)anthracen-9-yl)benzonitrile (2M-ph-pCzAnBzt) and 4-(10-(4-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)-2,5-dimethylphenyl)anthracen-9-yl)benzonitrile (2M-pCzAnBzt). In particular, 2M-ph-pCzAnBzt produces saturated deep blue emissions in a non-doped electroluminescent device with an exceptionally high EQE of 10.44% and CIEx,y (0.151, 0.057). The unprecedented electroluminescent efficiency is attributed to the combined effects of higher-order reversed intersystem crossing and triplet-triplet up-conversion, which are supported by analysis of theoretical calculation, triplet sensitization experiments, as well as nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopy. This research offers a new approach to resolve the shortage of high efficiency deep blue fluorescent emitters.

Abstract
In this contribution, we report the synthesis, characterization and luminescence-magnetic properties of Ln-clusters (Ln = Gd3+, Eu3+ and Tb3+) using a new pyridine-pyrazole functionalized ligand fitted with a chromophoric phenanthroline backbone. The unorthodox N-rich ligand forms isostructural trinuclear lanthanide complexes with a topology that closely resembles two interdigitating hairpins. The clusters crystallize in chiral space groups and also exhibit chirality for bulk samples, which were further confirmed using solid state CD spectra. Magnetic studies on the complexes reveal their interesting features while the Gd cluster shows a significant cryogenic magnetic cooling behaviour with a moderately high magnetic entropy change of -23.42 J kg-1 K-1 at 7 T and 2 K. On the other hand, Eu and Tb complexes exhibit interesting fluorescence properties. The compounds were subsequently used as fluorescent probes for the imaging of human breast adenocarcinoma (MCF7) cells. Live cell confocal microscopy images show that the complexes penetrate beyond the usual cytoplasm region and can be useful in imaging the nucleus region of MCF7 cells.
