Biosynthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Utilizing Leaf Extract of Trigonella foenum-graecum L. for Catalytic Dyes Degradation and Colorimetric Sensing of Fe3+/Hg2

Diffused sunlight assisted green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using Cotoneaster nummularia polar extract for antimicrobial and wound healing applications

The current study reports the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) using a polar extract of Cotoneaster nummularia leaves. Various analytical techniques, like UV-Vis spectrophotometry, FT-IR spectroscopy, XRD, SEM, and EDX were employed for characterisation. These techniques confirmed the stability of Ag NPs in solution and endorsed the interaction between different groups and Ag, crystal phase, surface morphology, and size of Ag NPs. UV-Vis spectrophotometer displayed SPR absorption bands ranging from 380 to 470 nm, characteristic of Ag NPs, within 1.0 h exposure to sunlight. XRD and SEM discovered the face-centered cubic crystals of Ag NPs with a 122.8 ± 1.1 nm average diameter. The bands at 525 cm-1 in FT-IR spectrum supported the development of Ag NPs. The Ag NPs showed antimicrobial potential against three pathogenic bacterial strains and two fungal strains. The wound healing results, as studied by tissue re-development and wound closure in rabbits were comparable to standard Sufre tulle® dressing.

Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Using Jasminum nudiflorum Flower Extract and Their Antifungal and Antioxidant Activity

The synthesis of metal nanomaterials is a timely topic due to their widespread use in fields such as crop protection, the environment, medicine, and engineering. Green synthesis of nanoparticles, which uses plant extracts instead of industrial chemical agents to reduce metal ions, has been developed to decrease costs, reduce pollution, and improve environmental and human health safety. In this paper, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized from the flower extract of Jasminum nudiflorum. The green synthesized AgNPs were characterized by UV-Vis, FTIR, XRD, SEM, and other technologies. The antifungal activity of the prepared AgNPs against Alternaria longipes was tested using the plate method, the concentration dilution method, and other methods, and the antioxidant activity of the prepared AgNPs was evaluated by DPPH and hydroxyl free scavenging methods. The results showed that AgNPs synthesized from J. nudiflorum flower extract have a face-centered cubic structure (fcc), and the average grain size of the nanoparticles is 13 nm; they are also mainly spherical in shape. Additionally, the concentration of AgNPs (ranging from 16 to 128 μg/mL) significantly inhibited the mycelial growth of A. longipes in comparison to the control. The inhibitory rate gradually increased with increasing AgNP concentration, ranging from 70.64% to 79.60% at a concentration of 128 μg/mL. The minimum inhibitory concentration was observed at 32 μg/mL. AgNPs induced overaccumulation of MDA in A. longipes, resulting in cell membrane damage and nucleic acid leakage. Moreover, the AgNPs have significant antioxidant properties, which increase with increasing concentration. The clearance rate of DPPH was 25.46 ± 0.90% when the concentration of AgNPs was 8 μg/mL, and the clearance rate of the hydroxyl radical was 28.62 ± 0.59% when the concentration of AgNPs was 128 μg/mL. Thus, the flower extract from J. nudiflorum holds potential as an environmentally friendly and green alternative for the synthesis of AgNPs, which have antifungal and antioxidant potential.

Stable biogenic silver nanoparticles from Syzygium nervosum bud extract for enhanced catalytic, antibacterial and antifungal properties

In the present study, the biosynthesis of stable silver nanoparticles (BioAgNPs) was accomplished successfully for the first time by using an aqueous extract derived from the buds of Syzygium nervosum (SN) as both a reducing and a stabilizing agent. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) investigations revealed that the biosynthesized BioAgNPs were predominantly spherical with an average size of 10-30 nm. It was found that the outstanding stability of the BioAgNPs colloidal solution was assigned to the additive effect of the surrounding protective organic layer and the highly negatively charged surface of the nanoparticles. Consequently, good antibacterial activity was demonstrated by the colloidal BioAgNPs solution against four distinct bacterial strains, including Gram-positive S. aureus and B. subtilis as well as Gram-negative E. coli and S. typhi. Interestingly, the biosynthesized BioAgNPs displayed greater antibacterial activity even when tested at low doses against Gram-negative S. typhi. In addition, the biogenic AgNPs demonstrated a significant level of catalytic activity in the process of converting 2-NP, 3-NP, and 4-NP into aminophenols within 15 min, with reaction rate constants of 9.0 × 10^-4, 10 × 10^-4, and 9.0 × 10^-4 s^-1, respectively. BioAgNPs formulations were assessed against anthracnose disease in tea plants and were found to be as effective as the positive control at a dose of 20-fold dilution, but less effective at a dose of 30-fold dilution. Both doses of BioAgNPs formulations significantly suppressed Colletotrichum camelliae (anthracnose disease) without affecting the growth of the tea plants.

Phytofabrication of Silver Nanoparticles Using Trigonella foenum-graceum L. Leaf and Evaluation of Its Antimicrobial and Antioxidant Activities

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were fabricated using Trigonella foenum-graceum L. leaf extract, belonging to the variety HM 425, as leaf extracts are a rich source of phytochemicals such as polyphenols, flavonoids, and sugars, which function as reducing, stabilizing, and capping agents in the reduction of silver ions to AgNPs. These phytochemicals were quantitatively determined in leaf extracts, and then, their ability to mediate AgNP biosynthesis was assessed. The optical, structural, and morphological properties of as-synthesized AgNPs were characterized using UV-visible spectroscopy, a particle size analyzer (PSA), FESEM (field emission scanning electron microscopy), HRTEM (high-resolution transmission electron microscopy), and FTIR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy). HRTEM analysis demonstrated the formation of spherically shaped AgNPs with a diameter of 4-22 nm. By using the well diffusion method, the antimicrobial potency of AgNPs and leaf extract was evaluated against microbial strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Xanthomonas spp., Macrophomina phaseolina, and Fusarium oxysporum. AgNPs showed significant antioxidant efficacy with IC₅₀ = 426.25 µg/mL in comparison to leaf extract with IC₅₀ = 432.50 µg/mL against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). The AgNPs (64.36 mg AAE/g) demonstrated greater total antioxidant capacity using the phosphomolybdneum assay compared to the aqueous leaf extract (55.61 mg AAE/g) at a concentration of 1100 μg/mL. Based on these findings, AgNPs may indeed be useful for biomedical applications and drug delivery systems in the future.
