Self-Assembled Polyaniline/Ti3C2Tx Nanocomposites for High-Performance Electrochromic Films

Boosting the Self-Recharging of Polypyrrole/Prussian Blue Electrochromic Device by Potential Difference-Driven Alternative Redox

Energy-storage electrochromic (EC) devices are a kind of recently developed device integrating energy-saving and energy-storage functions. To minimize energy consumption, a self-rechargeable energy-storage EC device with fast recovery speed is highly desired. Herein, a polypyrrole (PPy)/Prussian blue (PB) double-layer film with a potential difference is initially constructed and fabricated into a fast-recovery self-rechargeable EC device. Due to the existence of potential difference, the reduced PPy can be oxidized by PB, and subsequently Prussian white (the reduced state of PB) can be oxidized by O2 dissolved in electrolyte. Thus, the self-coloration/self-recharging process can be boosted by an alternative redox occurring in the solid/solid/liquid interfaces of PPy/PB/dissolved O2 instead of common solid/liquid interfaces or solutions. After self-recharging for 1 h, 65.0% of the open-circuit voltage and 45.2% of the total capacity can be recovered. Simultaneously, the synergy effect in this PPy and PB system enables a large optical modulation of 63.3% at 800 nm, a high open-circuit voltage of 1.20 V, and a large initial specific capacity of 87.8 mA·h·g-1 at 1.0 A·g-1. The design of double-layer film with a potential difference for boosting the self-coloration/self-recharging process of EC devices provides a new strategy for next-generation self-powered energy-storage EC devices.

One-Step Method for Fabricating Janus Aramid Nanofiber/MXene Nanocomposite Films with Improved Joule Heating and Thermal Camouflage Properties

The integration of ultraflexible and mechanically robust films with electric heaters and camouflage technology provides a promising platform for the development of wearable devices, especially for aerospace and military applications. Herein, we present a facile and efficient one-step vacuum-assisted filtration method for fabricating Janus films based on aramid nanofibers (ANF) and Ti3C2Tx (MXene). The ANF/MXene nanocomposite film exhibits remarkable properties, including high conductivity (23809.5 S/m), excellent mechanical strength (102.54 MPa), and outstanding thermal stability (575 °C). Most notably, the Janus ANF/MXene composite film demonstrates superior Joule heating performance with a low driving voltage (1-5 V), high heating temperature (30-276 °C), and rapid response time (within 5 s). Additionally, the film exhibits effective thermal camouflage (72 °C for objects with temperatures above 163 °C) and excellent electromagnetic interference shielding properties (SSE/t = 32475.6 dB cm2/g). These results demonstrate that Janus ANF/MXene films possess a unique combination of thermal camouflage, Joule heating, and electromagnetic interference shielding properties, making them highly promising for wearable devices, high-performance electrical heating, infrared stealth, and security protection applications.

Recent advances in polyaniline-based micro-supercapacitors

The rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoTs) and proliferation of wearable electronics have significantly stimulated the pursuit of distributed power supply systems that are small and light. Accordingly, micro-supercapacitors (MSCs) have recently attracted tremendous research interest due to their high power density, good energy density, long cycling life, and rapid charge/discharge rate delivered in a limited volume and area. As an emerging class of electrochemical energy storage devices, MSCs using polyaniline (PANI) electrodes are envisaged to bridge the gap between carbonaceous MSCs and micro-batteries, leading to a high power density together with improved energy density. However, despite the intensive development of PANI-based MSCs in the past few decades, a comprehensive review focusing on the chemical properties and synthesis of PANI, working mechanisms, design principles, and electrochemical performances of MSCs is lacking. Thus, herein, we summarize the recent advances in PANI-based MSCs using a wide range of electrode materials. Firstly, the fundamentals of MSCs are outlined including their working principle, device design, fabrication technology, and performance metrics. Then, the working principle and synthesis methods of PANI are discussed. Afterward, MSCs based on various PANI materials including pure PANI, PANI hydrogel, and PANI composites are discussed in detail. Lastly, concluding remarks and perspectives on their future development are presented. This review can present new ideas and give rise to new opportunities for the design of high-performance miniaturized PANI-based MSCs that underpin the sustainable prosperity of the approaching IoTs era.

Effects of Incorporating Titanium Dioxide with Titanium Carbide on Hybrid Materials Reinforced with Polyaniline: Synthesis, Characterization, Electrochemical and Supercapacitive Properties

We report on the synthesis of titanium dioxide by titanium carbide for the preparation of hybrid material reinforced with polyaniline (PANI@TiO2–TiC) using the in situ polymerization technique. The effectiveness of the samples on the thermal, optical and electrochemical properties was investigated. The XRD, XPS, FTIR, SEM and TEM results confirm the successful synthesis of the PANI, PANI@TiC and PANI@TiO2–TiC samples. Through this, a good connection, an excellent relationship between the structures and the properties of the synthesized hybrid materials were obtained. Moreover, the electrical conductivity and optical bandgap were also tested. Remarkably good electrochemical characteristics were identified by cyclic voltammetry. Moreover, the galvanostatic charge–discharge (GCD) of the supercapacitor was remarkably high. Cyclic stability showed good retention after 1500 cycles at 1.5 A·g−1.
