Mechanically Robust Flexible Multilayer Aramid Nanofibers and MXene Film for High-Performance Electromagnetic Interference Shielding and Thermal Insulation

Robust and Multifunctional Ti3 C2 Tx /Modified Sawdust Composite Paper for Electromagnetic Interference Shielding and Wearable Thermal Management

Robust, ultrathin, and environmental-friendliness papers that synergize high-efficiency electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, personal thermal management, and wearable heaters are essential for next-generation smart wearable devices. Herein, MXene nanocomposite paper with a nacre-like structure for EMI shielding and electrothermal/photothermal conversion is fabricated by vacuum filtration of Ti3 C2 Tx MXene and modified sawdust. The hydrogen bonding and highly oriented structure enhance the mechanical properties of the modified sawdust/MXene composite paper (SM paper). The SM paper with 50 wt% MXene content shows a strength of 23 MPa and a toughness of 13 MJ·M-3 . The conductivity of the SM paper is 10 195 S·m-1 , resulting in an EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) of 67.9 dB and a specific SE value (SSE/t) of 8486 dB·cm2 ·g-1 . In addition, the SM paper exhibits excellent thermal management performance including high light/electro-to-thermal conversion, rapid Joule heating and photothermal response, and sufficient heating stability. Notably, the SM paper exhibits low infrared emissivity and distinguished infrared stealth performance, camouflaging a high-temperature heater surface of 147-81 °C. The SM-based e-skin achieves visualization of Joule heating and realizes human motions monitoring. This work presents a new strategy for designing MXene-based wearable devices with great EMI shielding, artificial intelligence, and thermal management applications.

Recent progress in energy, environment, and electronic applications of MXene nanomaterials

Since the discovery of graphene, two-dimensional (2D) materials have gained widespread attention, owing to their appealing properties for various technological applications. Etched from their parent MAX phases, MXene is a newly emerged 2D material that was first reported in 2011. Since then, a lot of theoretical and experimental work has been done on more than 30 MXene structures for various applications. Given this, in the present review, we have tried to cover the multidisciplinary aspects of MXene including its structures, synthesis methods, and electronic, mechanical, optoelectronic, and magnetic properties. From an application point of view, we explore MXene-based supercapacitors, gas sensors, strain sensors, biosensors, electromagnetic interference shielding, microwave absorption, memristors, and artificial synaptic devices. Also, the impact of MXene-based materials on the characteristics of respective applications is systematically explored. This review provides the current status of MXene nanomaterials for various applications and possible future developments in this field.

Bio-Inspired Aramid Fibers@silica Binary Synergistic Aerogels with High Thermal Insulation and Fire-Retardant Performance

Flame-retardant, thermal insulation, mechanically robust, and comprehensive protection against extreme environmental threats aerogels are highly desirable for protective equipment. Herein, inspired by the core (organic)-shell (inorganic) structure of lobster antenna, fire-retardant and mechanically robust aramid fibers@silica nanocomposite aerogels with core-shell structures are fabricated via the sol-gel-film transformation and chemical vapor deposition process. The thickness of silica coating can be well-defined and controlled by the CVD time. Aramid fibers@silica nanocomposite aerogels show high heat resistance (530 °C), low thermal conductivity of 0.030 W·m^-1·K^-1, high tensile strength of 7.5 MPa and good flexibility. More importantly, aramid fibers@silica aerogels have high flame retardancy with limiting oxygen index 36.5. In addition, this material fabricated by the simple preparation process is believed to have potential application value in the field of aerospace or high-temperature thermal protection.
