Abstract
The development of efficient and stable electrocatalysts is crucial for the advancement of green and clean hydrogen energy technologies. In this work, we synthesized a nanocomposite of nickel-iron layered double hydroxide/molybdenum titanium carbide (NiFe-LDHs/Mo2Ti2C3) using a deep eutectic solvent (DESs) by the solvothermal method. The formation of NiFe-LDHs/Mo2Ti2C3 nanocomposite was confirmed by various electron microscopic and spectroscopic techniques. The synthesized nanocomposite was investigated as a bifunctional electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) under the alkaline condition. The NiFe-LDHs/Mo2Ti2C3-based electrodes exhibit small overpotentials of 204 and 306 mV for HER and OER at a current density of 10 mA cm-2. The anchor of NiFe-LDHs on the surface of Mo2Ti2C3 induces an interfacial synergistic effect, leading to a significantly improvement in electrochemical performance. Remarkably, the proposed NiFe-LDHs/Mo2Ti2C3 modified electrode demonstrates superior performance compared to many recently reported LDHs and MXenes-based electrocatalysts in an alkaline environment. Furthermore, a symmetrical two-electrode water splitting setup employing the NiFe-LDHs/Mo2Ti2C3 electrocatalyst requires an electrolysis voltage of 1.65 V to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm-2. The findings provide a new perspective on the rational design and synthesis of multifunctional electrocatalysts for electrochemical applications.

Abstract
Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) have a porous structure, high surface area, and high charge transfer, and they have been regarded as model electrocatalysts. Optimization of the electrocatalytic activity of MOFs is challenging, and an effective strategy for this optimization is the construction of a well-defined interfacial bond bridge. In this work, an in situ approach of composite synthesis is reported for MOF (CoNiNH2BDC) with MXenes (Mo2Ti2C3), as the electrocatalytic properties of MOF can be greatly enhanced with the incorporation of the conductive material MXene. The prepared composite material was characterized thoroughly using XRD, XPS, FESEM, EDX, TEM, and BET. The synergistic effect of both components of this composite material resulted in enhanced conductivity and the number of active sites, which led to enhanced electrocatalytic performance. The CoNiNH2BDC MOF with different ratios of Mo2Ti2C3 MXene were synthesized, and the resulting materials were evaluated for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activities. It was observed that the MOFMX3 attained a 10 mA cm-2 current density at 1.44 V for OER and -0.037 V for HER (vs. RHE), and lower values of Tafel slopes of 44.8 mV dec-1 for OER and 45 mV dec-1 for HER in 0.1 M KOH were achieved. The higher double layer capacitance (C dl) values lead to high electrochemical surface area (ECSA) values. Lower Tafel slope values for MOFMX3 show that the presence of MXene nanosheets in the hybrid provides support to the layered and porous configuration of MOF, and the chances of the interaction of electrolyte to the catalytically active sites are significantly enhanced. This work highlights the idea of growing bimetallic MOFs on Mo2Ti2C3 MXene using an interdiffusion reaction strategy and opens up an avenue for designing highly electrocatalytic systems.

Abstract
MXenes are a group of 2D material which have been derived from the layered transition metal nitrides and carbides and have the characteristics like electrical conductivity, high surface area and variable surface chemical composition. Self-assembly of clusters/metal ions and organic linkers forms metal organic framework (MOF). Their advantages of ultrahigh porosity, highly exposed active sites and many pore architectures have garnered them a lot of attention. But poor conductivity and instability plague several conventional MOF. To address the issue, MOF can be linked with MXenes that have rich surface functional groups and excellent electrical conductivity. In this review, different etching methods for exfoliation of MXene along with the synthesis methods of MXene/MOF composites are reviewed, including hydrothermal method, solvothermal method, in-situ growth method, and self-assembly method. Moreover, application of these MXene/MOF composites for catalytic water splitting and wastewater treatment were also discussed in details. In addition to increasing a single MOF conductivity and stability, MXenes can add a variety of new features, such the template effect. Due to these benefits, MXene/MOF composites can be effectively used in several applications, including photocatalytic/electrocatalytic water splitting, adsorption and degradation of pollutants from wastewater. Finally, the authors explored the current challenges and the future opportunities to improve the efficiency of MXene/MOF composites.

As a class of metal-organic framework, the zeolitic-imidazole framework-67 is constructed from bridging cobalt ions and 2-methylimidazole. The high content of abundant active cobalt species, uniform structure, ultrahigh porosity, and large surface area show the potential for multiple catalytic applications, especially electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The design and synthetic strategies of catalyst-based ZIF-67 that approach the maximized catalytic performance are still challenging in further development. Herein, the current progress strategy on the structural design, synthetic route, and functionalization of electrocatalysts based on ZIF-67 to boost the catalytic performance of OER is reviewed. Besides, the structurally designed catalyst from various fabricated strategies corresponding to enhancing catalytic activity is discussed. The emphasized review for understanding design and synthetic structure with catalytic performance could guide researchers in further developing catalyst-based ZIF-67 for improving the efficient electrocatalytic OER.

Abstract
The research community is actively exploring ways to create cost-efficient and high-performing electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction. In this investigation, an innovative technique was employed to produce heteroatom-doped carbon containing NiCo oxides, i.e., HC/NiCo oxide@800, in the form of a three-dimensional hierarchical flower. This method involved the reduction of a bimetallic (Ni, Co) metal-organic framework, followed by carefully controlled oxidative calcination. The resulting porous flower-like structure possess numerous advantages, such as expansive specific surface areas, excellent conductivity, and multiple electrocatalytic active sites for both hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions. Moreover, the presence of oxygen vacancies within HC/NiCo oxide@800 significantly enhances the conductivity of the NiCo substance, thus expediting the kinetics of both the processes. These benefits work together synergistically to enhance the electrocatalytic performance of HC/NiCo oxide@800. Empirical findings reveal that HC/NiCo oxide@800 electrocatalysts demonstrate exceptional catalytic activity, minimal overpotential, and remarkable stability when deployed for both hydrogen evolution and oxygen evolution reactions in alkaline environments. This investigation introduces a fresh avenue for creating porous composite electrocatalysts by transforming metal-organic frameworks with controllable structures. This approach holds promise for advancing electrochemical energy conversion devices by facilitating the development of efficient and customizable electrocatalytic materials.

Abstract
The two-electron oxygen reduction reaction (2e−ORR) pathway electrochemical synthesis to H2O2 has the advantages of low investment and environmental protection and is considered to be a promising green method. Herein, the oxidized Mo2TiC2 MXene (O-Mo2TiC2) was successfully synthesized by a facile hydrothermal method as an electrocatalyst in electrocatalytic H2O2 production. The O-Mo2TiC2 achieved the 90% of H2O2 selectivity and 0.72 V vs. RHE of the onset potential. Moreover, O-Mo2TiC2 showed high charge transfer ability and long-term stable working ability of 40 h. This significantly enhanced electrocatalytic H2O2 production capacity is assigned the oxidation treatment of Mo2TiC2 MXene to generate more oxygen-containing groups in O-Mo2TiC2. This work provides a promising catalyst candidate for the electrochemical synthesis of H2O2.

Abstract
The identification of hydrogen as green fuel in the near future has stirred global realization toward a sustainable outlook and thus boosted extensive research in the field of water electrolysis focusing on the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), oxygen evolution reaction (OER), and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). A huge class of compounds consisting of transition metal-based nitrides, carbides, chalcogenides, phosphides, and borides, which can be collectively termed transition metal non-oxides (TMNOs), has emerged recently as an efficient class of electrocatalysts in terms of performance and longevity when compared to transition metal oxides (TMOs). Moreover, the superiority of TMNOs over TMOs to effectively catalyze not only OERs but also HERs and ORRs renders bifunctionality and even trifunctionality in some cases and therefore can replace conventional noble metal electrocatalysts. In this review, the crystal structure and phases of different classes of nanostructured TMNOs are extensively discussed, focusing on recent advances in design strategies by various regulatory synthetic routes, and hence diversified properties of TMNOs are identified to serve as next-generation bi/trifunctional electrocatalysts. The challenges and future perspectives of materials in the field of energy conversion and storage aiding toward a better hydrogen economy are also discussed in this review.

Abstract
The rapid development of portable and wearable electronics has promoted the integration of multifunction techniques. Although flexible energy storage systems have been successfully investigated, the compact configuration with photodetector and energy storage components has received less attention. As a new member of the 2D material class, MXene exhibits remarkable electronic and optical properties. Here, through the intentional introduction of ZIF-67 derivatives deposited on the Mo2CTx nanosheets, the synthesized Co-CoOx/NC/Mo2CTx heterostructure not only provided a straightforward pathway for photogenerated electrons to transport but also enhanced the structural stability of Mo2CTx, leading to a high responsivity and short rise/decay time under the illumination of simulated light in the photoelectrochemical (PEC) configuration. The integrated flexible device based on a zinc ion battery and Co-CoOx/NC/Mo2CTx heterostructure shows outstanding photodetection function and retains the intrinsic charge/discharge behaviors, which could monitor 1 day sunlight changes in real time. The paradigm presented here paves the way for realizing the development of miniaturization and multifunction toward next-generation portable and wearable technologies.

Abstract
Rapid progress on developing smart materials and design of hybrids is motivated by pressing challenges associated with energy crisis and environmental remediation. While emergence of versatile classes of nanomaterials has been fascinating, the real excitement lies in the design of hybrid materials with tunable properties. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are the key materials for gas sorption and electrochemical applications, but their sustainability is challenged by limited chemical stability, poor electrical conductivity, and intricate, inaccessible pores. Despite tremendous efforts towards improving the stability of MOF materials, little progress has made researchers inclined toward developing hybrid materials. MXenes, a family of two-dimensional transition-metal carbides, nitrides and carbonitrides, are known for their compositional versatility and formation of a range of structures with rich surface chemistry. Hybridization of MOFs with functional layered MXene materials may be beneficial if the host structure provides appropriate interactions for stabilizing and improving the desired properties. Recent efforts have focused on integrating Ti3C2Tx and V2CTx MXenes with MOFs to result in hybrid materials with augmented electrochemical and physicochemical properties, widening the scope for emerging applications. This review discusses the potential design strategies of MXene@MOF hybrids, attributes of tunable properties in the resulting hybrids, and their applications in water treatment, sensing, electrochemical energy storage, smart textiles, and electrocatalysis. Comprehensive discussions on the recent efforts on rapidly evolving MXene@MOF materials for various applications and potential future directions are highlighted.

Abstract
Designing highly active and bifunctional oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts has attracted great interest toward metal-air batteries. Herein, an efficient solution to the search for MXene-based bifunctional catalysts is proposed by introducing non-noble metals such as Fe/Co/Ni at the surfaces. These results indicate that the ultrahigh activities in Ni1/Ni2- and Fe1/Ni2-modified MXene-based double-atom catalysts (DACs) for bifunctional ORR/OER are better than those of well-known unifunctional catalysts with low overpotentials, such as Pt(111) for the ORR and IrO2 (110) for the OER. Strain can profoundly regulate the catalytic activities of MXene-based DACs, providing a novel pathway for tunable catalytic behavior in flexible MXenes. An electrochemical model, based on density functional theory and theoretical polarization curves, is proposed to reveal the underlying mechanisms, in agreement with experimental results. Electronic structure analyses indicate that the excellent catalytic activities in the MXene-based DACs are attributed to the electron-capturing capability and synergistic interactions between Fe/Co/Ni adsorbents and MXene substrate. These findings not only reveal promising candidates for MXene-based bifunctional ORR/OER catalysts but also provide new theoretical insights into rationally designing noble-metal-free bifunctional DACs.

Abstract
ZIF-derivatized catalysts have shown high potential in catalysis. Herein, bean sprout-like Co-TiO2/Ti nanostructures were first synthesized by thermal treatment at 800 °C under Ar-flow conditions using sacrificial ZIF-67 templated on Ti sheets. It was observed that ZIF-67 on Ti sheets started to thermally decompose at around 350 °C and was converted to the cubic phase Co3O4. The head of the bean sprout structure was observed to be Co3O4, while the stem showed a crystal structure of rutile TiO2 grown from the metallic Ti support. Cu sputter-deposited Co-TiO2/Ti nanostructures were also prepared for photocatalytic and electrocatalytic CO2 reduction performances, as well as electrochemical oxygen reaction (OER). Gas chromatography results after photocatalytic CO2 reduction showed that CH3OH, CO and CH4 were produced as major products with the highest MeOH selectivity of 64% and minor C2 compounds of C2H2, C2H4 and C2H6. For electrocatalytic CO2 reduction, CO, CH4 and C2H4 were meaningfully detected, but H2 was dominantly produced. The amounts were observed to be dependent on the Cu deposition amount. Electrochemical OER performances in 0.1 M KOH electrolyte exhibited onset overpotentials of 330-430 mV (vs. RHE) and Tafel slopes of 117-134 mV/dec that were dependent on Cu-loading thickness. The present unique results provide useful information for synthesis of bean sprout-like Co-TiO2/Ti hybrid nanostructures and their applications to CO2 reduction and electrochemical water splitting in energy and environmental fields.

Abstract
Increasing demand for sustainable and clean energy is calling for the next-generation energy conversion and storage technologies such as fuel cells, water electrolyzers, CO2 /N2 reduction electrolyzers, metal-air batteries, etc. All these electrochemical processes involve oxygen electrocatalysis. Boosting the intrinsic activity and the active-site density through rational design of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and metal-organic gels (MOGs) as precursors represents a new approach toward improving oxygen electrocatalysis efficiency. MOFs/MOGs afford a broad selection of combinations between metal nodes and organic linkers and are known to produce electrocatalysts with high surface areas, variable porosity, and excellent activity after pyrolysis. Some recent studies on MOFs/MOGs for oxygen electrocatalysis and their new perspectives in synthesis, characterization, and performance are discussed. New insights on the structural and compositional design in MOF/MOG-derived oxygen electrocatalysts are summarized. Critical challenges and future research directions are also outlined.

Abstract
Because of the abundance of transition metals, their enhanced electrochemical/chemical efficiency on par with the benchmark catalysts, long-term stability, etc., the expansion of transition metal/metal oxide-based electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution, urea oxidation reactions and 4-nitrophenol reduction becomes indispensable. In particular, the abundant availability along with improved electrochemical performance is crucial for fuel cell applications when it comes to large scale commercialization. In this work, we report the synthesis of a trimetallic metal-organic framework based on Ni, Co and Zn using BTC as a linker and the preparation of its metal oxide - carbon composites at different temperatures, 600, 700 and 800 °C (TM-MOF-600, TM-MOF-700, and TM-MOF-800) by carbonization under an inert atmosphere. The PXRD pattern of TM-MOF complemented well with the simulated XRD patterns of Co-Ni-BTC MOF as well as Zn-BTC MOF, whereas the PXRD pattern of the carbonized samples indicated the presence of three types of metal oxides i.e., CoO, NiO, and ZnO. TEM indicated spherical morphology of TM-MOF, upon calcination, an irregular agglomeration occurred and the average particle size was found to be 60-110 nm. The as-prepared TM-MOF and its carbon composites were tested for their electrocatalytic as well as catalytic activities towards oxygen evolution, urea oxidation and 4-nitrophenol reduction reactions. Electrochemical results indicate the better performance of TM-MOF-800 in both OER and UOR reactions with an onset potential of 1.66 V (OER) and 1.37 V (UOR) at a current density of 10 mA cm-2. The long-term stability of these catalysts under alkaline conditions indicates excellent stability. Besides, the urea electrolyzed products were analyzed by gas chromatography to get clear insights on the formed products. Catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol in the presence of excess NaBH4 showed excellent conversion to 4-amino phenol in short duration.

Abstract
The conversion of nitrogen into ammonia is crucial for human activities. The electrochemical synthesis of ammonia from nitrogen and water is a green process with great application prospects; to this end, much effort has been made to improve the catalytic activity and selectivity. Here, a Co-based metal-organic framework (MOF), that is, zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67), supported on a Ti3C2 MXene (defined as ZIF-67@Ti3C2) was prepared via in situ growth. Due to the high porosity and large active surface area of the MOF and the superior conductivity of the Ti3C2 MXene, the composite could efficiently synthesize ammonia electrochemically. In particular, the prepared ZIF-67@Ti3C2 catalyst exhibited an excellent NH3 yield (6.52 μmol h-1 cm-2), significantly higher than those achieved by Ti3C2 and ZIF-67 (2.77 and 1.61 μmol h-1 cm-2, respectively) alone, and good Faraday efficiency (20.2%) at -0.4 V (vs. the reversible hydrogen electrode). This study not only expands the application of the MXene family in the electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction but also provides ideas for the development of high-performance electrocatalysts for NRR.
