Abstract
Background The occurrence of eczema is related to helper T 22 (Th22) cytokine disorder, and Th22 mainly secretes interleukin-22 (IL-22). This study aims to investigate the predictive value of umbilical cord blood IL-22 levels on the onset of eczema in infants within 42 days. Study design The study selected 157 full-term healthy neonates born between September 2020 and May 2021. Cord blood was collected immediately after birth to determine IL-22 levels, and the infants were followed up for 42 days to assess the incidence of eczema. Results Among the 157 infants who completed the 42-day follow-up, 86 developed eczema and 71 did not. The level of IL-22 in the umbilical cord blood of the eczema group was lower than that of the non-eczema group (p < 0.05). Additionally, the incidence of eczema in children whose Family history of allergy was significantly higher than in the group without eczema (p < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis indicated that low cord blood IL-22 levels and a family history of allergies were independent risk factors for eczema (p < 0.05). The ROC curve of cord blood IL-22 levels and infant eczema showed that the cut-off value is 36.362 pg/ml, the area under the curve (AUC) is 0.613, the standard error is 0.045, the 95% CI is 0.526-0.701, the sensitivity is 63.4%, and the specificity is 57.0%. Therefore, there is a certain correlation between cord blood IL-22 levels and the incidence of infant eczema. Conclusions Low IL-22 levels in umbilical cord blood may be linked to the development of infant eczema within 42 days, indicating a potential predictive value, although this value appears to be limited.

Abstract
Previous studies have suggested that vitamin D has a protective effect on allergic diseases, while an individual's sex may have a moderating effect on the relationship between vitamin D and allergic-related immunity. This study aimed to determine the role of vitamin D in children with coexisting allergic diseases in the context of sex differences and to explore the behavioral profiles of these patients. We recruited a total of 103 children with atopic diseases and divided them into four groups: males with one allergic disease (MA1, n = 20), males with two or more allergic diseases (MA2, n = 26), females with one allergic disease (FA1, n = 30), and females with two or more allergic diseases (FA2, n = 27). We measured serum calcium levels using the colorimetric method and serum 25-OH vitamin D total levels using electrochemiluminescence immunoassay. We found that MA2 had significantly lower vitamin D levels than MA1 and FA2. The levels of IgE were negatively correlated with vitamin D in females, whereas the levels of IgE were not significantly correlated with vitamin D in males. Furthermore, serum IgE was significantly correlated with children's adaptive skills, and different sexes were associated with different aspects of adaptive skills. Our findings suggest a protective role of vitamin D in the development of one allergic disease against the coexistence of allergic diseases in males, as well as extend the evidence for sex differences in immunity by demonstrating a sex-different correlation between IgE and vitamin D and the relationship between IgE and children's adaptive skills.

Abstract
Background Lifestyle and environmental factors are known to contribute to allergic disease development, especially very early in life. However, the link between diet composition and allergic outcomes remains unclear. Methods In the present population-based cohort study we evaluated the dietary intake of 10-year-old children and analyses were performed with particular focus on atopic dermatitis or food allergy, allergic diseases known to be affected by dietary allergens. Dietary intake was assessed via semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaires. Based on these data, individual nutrient intake as well as children’s Dietary Inflammatory Index (C-DII™) scores were calculated. Information about atopic manifestations during the first 10 years of life and confounding factors were obtained from standardized questionnaires during pregnancy and annually thereafter. Results Analyses from confounder-adjusted logistic regression models (n = 211) revealed that having atopic outcomes was associated with having a pro-inflammatory pattern at the age of 10 years: OR = 2.22 (95% CI: 1.14–4.31) for children with atopic dermatitis and OR = 3.82 (95% CI: 1.47–9.93) for children with food allergy in the first 10 years of life. Conclusion A pro-inflammatory dietary pattern might worsen the atopic outcome and reduce the buffering capacity of the individual against harmful environmental exposures or triggers. For pediatricians it is recommended to test for the individual tolerance of allergenic foods and to increase the nutrient density of tolerable food items to avoid undesirable effects of eating a pro-inflammatory diet.

Abstract
Background/Introduction: Food allergy (FA) management involves avoiding allergenic foods to prevent an adverse reaction. Affected individuals spend substantial amounts of time thinking about food and the impact it has on their bodies. As such, we posit sustained awareness of food choices may contribute to distorted body image and disordered eating. We performed a narrative review to glean insight into associations between FA, body image and eating disorders. Methods: A literature search of Scopus, PsycINFO, PubMed and Google Scholar was conducted connecting terms for “food allergy” with terms for “body image” and “eating disorders”. Title and abstract screening were independently performed by two reviewers, with relevant abstracts carried forward to full text screening. Results: 159 articles were eligible for full text screening and a total of 12 publications were ultimately included in this narrative review, and 1 article from the grey literature. Adolescents and adults both reported feeling as though their bodies were “defective” and were found to have integrated their FA as a stable facet of their identities. In addition, FA was overwhelmingly associated with prevalence of eating disorders and eating disorder-like symptoms. Disturbed body image was found to be a mediating variable for the development of disordered patterns of eating in food allergic individuals. Limitations: Few studies appeared to consider comorbidities as confounders. Also, many studies employed convenience sampling, which does limit generalizability of conclusions. Discussion/Conclusion: Based on a small body of literature, there appears to be a potential association between FA and distorted body image and disordered eating.

Abstract
Vegan diets – defined as the exclusion of all foods of animal origin from the diet- are becoming popular. In recent years, the prevalence of food allergy has also increased, and disproportionately affects children. When vegan diets and food allergy co-occur, this combination can be challenging and pose risks of nutritional deficiencies, particularly during childhood. In this paper, we aim to summarise the major concerns regarding vegan diets and food allergy, review the literature on this topic, and provide some suggestions for healthcare providers, particularly dietitians and nutritionists, who work with food allergic, vegan patients and their family. When working with this patient population, a regular and complete medical nutrition history, including screening for any possible nutritional deficiencies, is warranted. Likewise, the routine tracking of serum markers (especially iodine, iron, zinc, calcium, Vitamins B12, D, B2, and A, selected n-3 fatty acids and protein, which are more abundant in animal vs. plant foods) and symptoms of co-morbid diseases, including asthma, is important, as comorbid diseases may increase energy and nutrient requirements. For infants and children, anthropometry ought to be tracked longitudinally at regular intervals to identify any deviations from the child’s previous growth pattern, and to accommodate any increased requirements for growth and development. Correct diagnoses, education and allergy management must be disseminated to the family in a clear and appropriate manner. Children with allergy may have increased nutritional needs due to comorbidity. This is complicated by coincident food allergy and vegan diet as both impose diet restrictions (limiting sources of important nutrients, need for dietary variety and/or increased consumption due to reduced bioavaliability).
