Abstract
BACKGROUND Jueyin granules (JYG) is effective against psoriasis, but its utility components are not clear. Rutin is the main monomer of JYG, its therapeutic effect and mechanism on psoriasis need to be further clarified. PURPOSE To explore the potential mechanisms of rutin on psoriasis through network pharmacology and experiments. METHODS In vitro, cell viability was determined using the CCK8 assay, and inflammatory factors were identified using RT-qPCR. The hub genes and kernel pathways of action were identified by modular pharmacology analysis. In vivo, a BALB/c mice model of psoriasis was induced by Imiquimod (IMQ). The therapeutic effect and action pathway were detected through Western Blotting, RT-qPCR, histopathologic and immunohistochemical analysis. RESULTS Rutin inhibited cell proliferation and expression of TNF-α and IL-6 in HaCaT cells. The hub genes include APP, INS, and TNF, while the kernel pathways contain the AGE-RAGE signaling pathway. In IMQ-induced psoriasis-like mice, rutin ameliorated skin lesions and inhibited cell proliferation. Rutin could attenuate inflammation by downregulating the AGE-RAGE signaling pathway. CONCLUSION This study suggests that rutin can reduce IMQ-induced psoriasis like skin inflammation in mice, and regulation of AGE-RAGE signaling pathway may be one of its potential anti-inflammatory mechanisms. Rutin has a promising therapeutic use for the treatment of psoriasis.

Abstract
Through an investigator-administered questionnaire that follows the standard protocol of the International Study of Allergy and Asthma in Childhood, data on symptomatic histories of eczema and dietary habits were collected from 11,494 young Chinese adults in Singapore/Malaysia. Allergic sensitization status was assessed through a skin prick test reactivity to common house dust mites. Using three dietary indices (dietary protein score, animal protein score, and plant protein score), the associations between atopic dermatitis, intrinsic eczema, allergic sensitization, and intake of various proteins were estimated. On average, most subjects frequently eat meat, vegetables, and rice in their diets. Through a multivariable logistic regression adjusted for age, sex, body mass index, and parental eczema, subjects with high dietary protein score (adjusted OR = 1.397; 95% confidence interval = 1.133-1.724; P < 0.003) and high animal protein score (adjusted OR = 1.353; 95% confidence interval = 1.106-1.682; P < 0.003) were associated with increased risk of atopic dermatitis. Interestingly, synergy factor analysis revealed that a higher intake of plant proteins than animal proteins in diets significantly reduced overall associated risks of atopic dermatitis and allergic sensitization but not those of intrinsic eczema. Most importantly, these associations are independent of dietary fat intake. Taken together, frequent adherence to diets rich in plant proteins reduced associated risks of atopic dermatitis in Singapore/Malaysia Chinese adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to evaluate the effects of alcohol intake, assessed using the Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test (AUDIT) questionnaire, on the severity of plaque psoriasis using the Body Surface Area (BSA) and Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) scales, and quality of life using the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) questionnaire. MATERIAL AND METHODS The diagnosis of psoriasis was made based on the clinical picture. We enrolled 24 patients with psoriasis vulgaris, and the AUDIT test conducted at the time of follow-up indicated a possible risky/harmful pattern of alcohol consumption or alcohol dependence syndrome among the patients (>8 points). The comparison group consisted of 20 psoriatic patients and AUDIT <8 points. The BSA and PASI scales were used to determine the severity of psoriasis, and the DLQI questionnaire assessed patients' quality of life and how they felt during the week preceding the survey. RESULTS As the amount and frequency of alcohol consumed increased, the exacerbation of lesions measured according to the PASI and BSA scales was significantly higher (P<0.05), and the quality of life decreased (P<0.05). We noted that inadequate and excessive dietary intake of total protein, total fat, and assimilable carbohydrates were associated with statistically significantly higher values of BSA and PASI scores and, thus, more severe psoriatic lesions (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS An unbalanced diet, alcohol abuse, and smoking negatively affect the course of psoriasis vulgaris, hence the importance of patient education.
