Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Modulation of the host microbiota through probiotics has been shown to have beneficial effects on health in the growing body of research. Exercise increases the amount and diversity of beneficial microorganisms in the host microbiome. Although low- and moderate-intensity exercise has been shown to reduce physiological stress and improve immune function, high-intensity prolonged exercise can suppress immune function and reduce microbial diversity due to intestinal hypoperfusion. The effect of probiotic supplementation on sports performance is still being studied; however, questions remain regarding the mechanisms of action, strain used, and dose. In this review, the aim was to investigate the effects of probiotic supplements on exercise performance through modulation of gut microbiota and alleviation of GI symptoms, promotion of the immune system, bioavailability of nutrients, and aerobic metabolism. RECENT FINDINGS Probiotic supplementation may improve sports performance by reducing the adverse effects of prolonged high-intensity exercise. Although probiotics have been reported to have positive effects on sports performance, information about the microbiome and nutrition of athletes has not been considered in most current studies. This may have limited the evaluation of the effects of probiotic supplementation on sports performance.

Abstract
The interplay between probiotics and mineral absorption is a topic of growing interest due to its great potential for human well-being. Minerals are vital in various physiological processes, and deficiencies can lead to significant health problems. Probiotics, beneficial microorganisms residing in the gut, have recently gained attention for their ability to modulate mineral absorption and mitigate deficiencies. The aim of the present review is to investigate the intricate connection between probiotics and the absorption of key minerals such as calcium, selenium, zinc, magnesium, and potassium. However, variability in probiotic strains, and dosages, alongside the unique composition of individuals in gut microbiota, pose challenges in establishing universal guidelines. An improved understanding of these mechanisms will enable the development of targeted probiotic interventions to optimize mineral absorption and promote human health.

Abstract
Excessive consumption of dietary sodium is a significant contributor to non-communicable diseases, including hypertension and cardiovascular disease. There is now a global consensus that regulating salt intake is among the most cost-effective measures for enhancing public health. More than half of the countries worldwide have implemented multiple strategies to decrease salt consumption. Nevertheless, a report on sodium intake reduction published by the World Health Organization revealed that the world is off-track to meet its targeted reduction of 30% by 2025. The global situation regarding salt reduction remains concerning. This review will center on domestic and international salt reduction policies, as well as diverse strategies, given the detrimental effects of excessive dietary salt intake and the existing global salt intake scenario. Besides, we used visualization software to analyze the literature related to salt reduction research in the last five years to explore the research hotspots in this field. Our objective is to enhance public awareness regarding the imperative of reducing salt intake and promoting the active implementation of diverse salt reduction policies.

Abstract
Isoflavones and probiotics are promising nutrients for bone health, and magnesium (Mg) is essential for bone metabolism. This study aimed to determine the effects of daidzein, genistein and Lactobacillus acidophilus on the Mg status of healthy female rats. Forty-eight rats were randomly assigned to six groups, with the control group receiving a standard diet (AIN 93M). The remaining groups were fed the same diet with added ingredients such as tempeh flour; soy flour; pure daidzein and genistein; L. acidophilus or a combination of daidzein, genistein, and L. acidophilus. Tissue samples were collected after the eight-week intervention, and Mg concentrations were analysed using flame atomic absorption spectrometry. Myeloid and erythroid cells were determined using the haematoxylin and eosin bone staining method. Statistical analyses were conducted using one-way ANOVA with Tukey's post hoc test and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The threshold for significance was p < 0.05. Compared with the control group, adding tempeh to the diet of rats resulted in significant changes in Mg concentrations in various tissues, with a decrease in the kidneys and an increase in the fur. Although not statistically significant compared to the control group, the tempeh group showed increased Mg concentrations in the femur and spleen. The myeloid-to-erythroid cell ratio did not differ significantly among groups, but all intervention groups showed higher ratios than the control group. A strong negative correlation was observed between Mg concentrations in the kidneys and fur. Conversely, a positive correlation was identified between Mg concentrations in the pancreas and fur. Daily consumption of tempeh may improve Mg status in the organism. Intake of pure daidzein, genistein, or probiotic seems to have no effect on Mg concentrations in healthy rats.

Abstract
Isoflavones and probiotics have shown the therapeutic potential to alter calcium absorption and bone cell metabolism. This study sought to ascertain the effect of isoflavones and probiotics on calcium status and bone health in healthy female rats. Forty-eight adult female Wistar rats were grouped and fed: a standard diet (control); and standard diets with tempeh; soy; daidzein and genistein; Lactobacillus acidophilus; and a combination of daidzein, genistein, and L. acidophilus. The biochemical serum parameters, such as alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase, glucose, and triacylglycerol concentrations, were measured, and calcium contents in tissues were determined. After staining the bone with hematoxylin and eosin, the number of osteoblasts, osteocytes, and the percentage of bone marrow adipocytes were counted. Compared with the control group, the soy group showed a significantly lower triacylglycerol concentration. The L. acidophilus group considerably increased the calcium content in the femoral bone. The daidzein and genistein, L. acidophilus, and a combination of daidzein, genistein, and L. acidophilus groups showed significantly lower calcium contents in the heart and kidneys. The daidzein and genistein group significantly enhanced the number of osteoblasts and osteocytes. A substantial inverse correlation was observed between calcium contents in kidneys and osteoblasts. In conclusion, the combination of daidzein, genistein, and L. acidophilus may improve bone calcium concentrations and bone cells. However, no synergistic effect between isoflavones and probiotics was detected in this study.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Isoflavones and probiotics are two major factors involved in bone health. Osteoporosis and disturbances in iron (Fe) levels are common health problems in aging women. This study aimed to analyze how soybean products, daidzein, genistein, and Lactobacillus acidophilus (LA) affect Fe status and blood morphological parameters in healthy female rats. METHODS A total of 48 Wistar rats aged 3 months were randomly divided into six groups. The control group (K) received a standard diet (AIN 93 M). The remaining five groups received a standard diet supplemented with the following: tempeh flour (TP); soy flour (RS); daidzein and genistein (DG); Lactobacillus acidophilus DSM20079 (LA); as well as a combination of daidzein, genistein, and L. acidophilus DSM20079 (DGLA). After 8 weeks of intervention, blood samples of the rats were collected for morphological analysis, whereas tissue samples were collected and kept at -80 °C until Fe analysis. Red blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit, mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, platelets (PLTs), red cell distribution width, white blood cells, neutrophils (NEUT), lymphocytes (LYM), monocytes, eosinophils (EOS), and basophils were measured for blood morphological analysis. Fe concentrations were determined using flame atomic spectrometry. For statistical analysis, an ANOVA test for significance at the 5 % level was used. The relationship between tissue Fe levels and blood morphological parameters was determined using Pearson's correlation. RESULTS Although no significant differences were observed in the Fe content between all diets, the TP group showed significantly higher levels of NEUT and lower levels of LYM than the control group. Compared with the DG and DGLA groups, the TP group showed a dramatically higher PLT level. In addition, the RS group showed significantly higher Fe concentrations in the spleen compared with the standard diet. Compared with the DG, LA, and DGLA groups, the RS group also showed significantly higher Fe concentrations in the liver. Compared with the TP, DG, LA, and DGLA groups, the RS group showed dramatically higher Fe concentrations in the femur. Pearson's correlations between blood morphological parameters and Fe levels in tissues were observed, especially a negative correlation between the Fe level in the femur and the NEUT concentration (-0.465) and a strong positive correlation between the Fe level in the femur and the LYM concentration (0.533). CONCLUSION Soybean flour was found to increase Fe levels in rats, whereas tempeh may alter anti-inflammatory blood parameters. Isoflavones and probiotics did not affect Fe status in healthy female rats.

Abstract
Five hundred and forty Cheery Valley ducks were used to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation of acidifier and compound probiotics, individually or in combination, on production performance, egg quality, immune and oxidative status, expression of reproductive, and calcium binding related genes from 42 wk to 48 wk of age. Ducks were randomly allocated to 9 treatment groups with 6 replicates and 10 ducks per replicate for each group. A 3 × 3 factorial arrangement, with 3 dietary inclusion levels of acidifier and probiotics (0, 2, and 3 g/kg acidifier; 0, 1, and 2 g/kg probiotics) were used. The acidifier used was mainly consisted of Benzoic acid, Fumaric acid, phosphoric acid, and formic acid. The main components of the probiotics were Bacillus subtilis and Clostridium butyricum. Dietary supplementation of probiotics improved the daily feed intake, egg production rate, and body weight of ducks (P < 0.05), and diet acidifier also increased the daily feed intake compared to the control (P < 0.01). Egg quality was improved by diet inclusion of probiotics, including Haugh unit, albumen height, egg shape index (P < 0.01), and eggshell hardness (P = 0.05). A significant increase in Haught unit and yolk weight was observed in ducks fed diet added with acidifier (P < 0.05). Acidifier supplementation reduced the total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), immunoglobulin A (IgA), and IgG content and the catalase (CAT) activity in the serum (P < 0.05), in accompanied with an increased malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration (P < 0.05). Serum total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD) activities were improved by dietary inclusion of probiotics (P < 0.05). There was an interaction effects on serum IgA and IgG contents between acidifier and probiotics (P < 0.05). Diet supplementation of probiotics improved the ovary follicle-stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR) and estrogen receptor (ER) gene expressions (P < 0.01), while dietary acidifier reduced the transcription levels of FSHR and luteinizing hormone receptor (LHR) (P < 0.01) in ovary. In the uterus of the oviduct, expressions of FSHR, and carbonic anhydrase 2 (CA2) were also increased by diet probiotics (P < 0.01), and diet acidifier reduced the gene expressions of calbindin-D28k (CaBP-D28k) and CA2 (P < 0.05). Significant interaction effects between diet acidifier and probiotics were obtained on gene expressions of FSHR, LHR, and ovalbumin (OVAL) in the ovary (P < 0.05), and LHR, CaBP-D28k, and CA2 (P < 0.05) in the uterus. It can be concluded that production performance and egg quality of laying ducks can be improved in the late phase of reproduction by dietary inclusion of probiotics, while the organic acid mixture caused a decline in serum antioxidant and immune capacity of the ducks.
