Utility of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles Catalytic Activity in the Electrochemical Determination of Minocycline Hydrochloride

Exploiting of Green Synthesized Metal Oxide Nanoparticles in the Potentiometric Determination of Metformin Hydrochloride in Pharmaceutical Products

The advanced and highly functional properties of Al2O3 and NiO nanoparticles promote the widespread use of metal oxides as remarkable electroactive materials for sensing and electrochemical applications. The proposed study describes a comparison of the sensitivity and selectivity of two modified wire membrane sensors enriched with Al2O3 and NiO nanoparticles with conventional wire membranes for the quantification of the antidiabetic drug metformin hydrochloride (MTF). The results show linear relationships of the enriched Al2O3 and NiO nanosensors over the concentration ranges 1.0 × 10-10-1.0 × 10-2 mol L-1 and 1.0 × 10-6-1.0 × 10-2 M for both the modified sensors and the conventional coated wire membrane sensors. The regression equations were EmV = (52.1 ± 0.5) log (MTF) + 729 for enriched nanometallic oxides, EmV = (57.04 ± 0.4) log (MTF) + 890.66, and EmV = (58.27 ± 0.7) log (MTF) + 843.27 with correlation coefficients of 0.9991, 0.9997, and 0.9998 for the aforementioned sensors, respectively. The proposed method was fully validated with respect to the recommendations of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). The newly functionalized sensors have been successfully used for the determination of MTF in its commercial products.

Electrochemical Oxidation of Sodium Metabisulfite for Sensing Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles Deposited on Graphite Electrode

A novel concept was successfully evaluated for the electrochemical quantitative analysis of zinc oxide nanoparticles originally in aqueous suspension. An aliquot of the suspension was first placed on the working area of a graphite screen-printed electrode and the water was evaporated to form a dry deposit of ZnO nanoparticles. Deposition of ZnO nanoparticles on the electrode was confirmed by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. A probe solution containing KCl and sodium metabisulfite was added on top of the deposit for electrochemical analysis by cyclic voltammetry. The anodic peak current (Ipa) for metabisulfite, measured at +1.2 V vs. Ag/AgCl, afforded a lower detection limit of 3 µg and exhibited a linear dependence on the mass of deposited ZnO nanoparticles up to 15 μg. Further, the current increased nonlinearly until it reached a saturation level beyond 60 μg of ZnO nanoparticles. The diffusion coefficient of metabisulfite anions through the electrical double layer was determined to be 4.16 × 10−5 cm2/s. Apparently the surface reactivity of ZnO originated from the oxide anion rather than the superoxide anion or the hydroxyl radical. Enhancement of the metabisulfite oxidation peak current can be developed into a sensitive method for the quantitation of ZnO nanoparticles.

Enzyme-based sensing on nanohybrid film coated over FTO electrode for highly sensitive detection of antibiotics

Cefepime and Meropenem are the new class of antibiotics, which are particularly used as last potent defender or the antibiotics of the last resort against multi-resistant bacterial species. In this paper, an impedance-based electrochemical biosensor was fabricated for identifying antibiotics of last resort in the forensic samples including gastric lavage and other body fluids. The sensor was developed using platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs) and electrodeposited zinc oxide- zinc hexacyanoferrate hybrid film (ZnO/ZnHCF) on the surface of a fluorine-doped glass electrode (FTO). Further, penicillinase was immobilized onto the modified electrode using penicillinase enzyme. The developed biosensor exhibits a good analytical response for the detection of antibiotics evaluated using electrochemistry studies. The linear response of the fabricated electrode was observed from 0.1 to 750 µM and the electrode limit of detection (LOD) was observed as 0.1 µM. The sensor confirms good accuracy, is highly selective, and sensitive for the target. While storing the modified electrode at 4 °C, the stability of biosensor was evaluated for 45 days, and activity loss of 30-40% was observed. The highly sensitive interface of Penicillinase@CHIT/PtNP-ZnO/ZnHCF/FTO electrode shows a promising future in forensic studies.
