Modbus Extension Server Implementation for BIoT-Enabled Smart Switch Embedded System Device

The industrial control and automation sector has invested in the development and standardization of new wireless (WirelessHART, ISA 100.11a, and WIA-PA) and wired (Profibus/Profinet, Modbus, and LonWORK) solutions aimed at automating processes to support standard monitoring and control functions from the perspective of addressing critical applications, as well as those integrated within the Building Internet of Things (BIoT) concept. Distributed data acquisition and control systems allow modern installations to monitor and control devices remotely. Various network protocols have been proposed to specify communication formats between a client/gateway and server devices, with Modbus being an example that has been widely implemented in the latest industrial electrical installations. The main contribution made in this paper concerns the completion of the Modbus Extension (ModbusE) specifications for the server station in the classical Modbus communication architecture, as well as their implementation and testing in an STM32F4 kit. A general-purpose control architecture is proposed for BIoT sector, comprising both intelligent touch switches and communication protocols of which the Modbus protocol is used extensively for the monitoring and control part, especially between clients, smart switches, and devices. The specific contributions concern the presentation of a scientific and practical implementation of improved specifications and their integration as software modules on ModbusE protocol server stations. A client station with a VirtualComm USB PC connection is also implemented in the lab to test the operation of the proposed server with specific Modbus applications.

Research on Intelligent Embedded Fan System Based on YOLOv2 Lightweight Algorithm

With the development of artificial intelligence, the application of intelligent algorithms to low-power embedded chips has become a new research topic today. Based on this, this study optimizes the YOLOv2 algorithm by tailoring and successfully deploys it on the K210 chip to train the face object detection algorithm model separately. The intelligent fan with YOLOv2 model deployed in K210 chip can detect the target of the character and obtain the position and size of the character in the machine coordinates. Based on the obtained information of character coordinate position and size, the fan's turning Angle and the size of air supply are intelligently perceived. The experimental results show that the intelligent fan design method proposed here is a new embedded chip intelligent method of cutting and improving the YOLOv2 algorithm. It innovatively designed solo tracking, crowd tracking, and intelligent ranging algorithms, which perform well in human perception of solo tracking and crowd tracking and automatic air volume adjustment, improve the accuracy of air delivery and user comfort, and also provide good theoretical and practical support for the combination of AI and embedded in other fields.

A Cyber-Physical Approach for Residential Energy Management: Current State and Future Directions

In this work, we an envision Home Energy Management System (HEMS) as a Cyber-Physical System (CPS) architecture including three stages: Data Acquisition, Communication Network, and Data Analytics. In this CPS, monitoring, forecasting, comfort, occupation, and other strategies are conceived to feed a control plane representing the decision-making process. We survey the main technologies and techniques implemented in the recent years for each of the stages, reviewing and identifying the cutting-edge challenges that the research community are currently facing. For the Acquisition part, we define a metering device according to the IEC TS 63297:2021 Standard. We analyze the communication infrastructure as part of beyond 2030 communication era (5G and 6G), and discuss the Analytics stage as the cyber part of the CPS-based HEMS. To conclude, we present a case study in which, using real data collected in an experimental environment, we validate proposed architecture of HEMS in monitoring tasks. Results revealed an accuracy of 99.2% in appliance recognition compared with the state-of-the-art proposals.
