Robust human locomotion and localization activity recognition over multisensory

Human activity recognition (HAR) plays a pivotal role in various domains, including healthcare, sports, robotics, and security. With the growing popularity of wearable devices, particularly Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) and Ambient sensors, researchers and engineers have sought to take advantage of these advances to accurately and efficiently detect and classify human activities. This research paper presents an advanced methodology for human activity and localization recognition, utilizing smartphone IMU, Ambient, GPS, and Audio sensor data from two public benchmark datasets: the Opportunity dataset and the Extrasensory dataset. The Opportunity dataset was collected from 12 subjects participating in a range of daily activities, and it captures data from various body-worn and object-associated sensors. The Extrasensory dataset features data from 60 participants, including thousands of data samples from smartphone and smartwatch sensors, labeled with a wide array of human activities. Our study incorporates novel feature extraction techniques for signal, GPS, and audio sensor data. Specifically, for localization, GPS, audio, and IMU sensors are utilized, while IMU and Ambient sensors are employed for locomotion activity recognition. To achieve accurate activity classification, state-of-the-art deep learning techniques, such as convolutional neural networks (CNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM), have been explored. For indoor/outdoor activities, CNNs are applied, while LSTMs are utilized for locomotion activity recognition. The proposed system has been evaluated using the k-fold cross-validation method, achieving accuracy rates of 97% and 89% for locomotion activity over the Opportunity and Extrasensory datasets, respectively, and 96% for indoor/outdoor activity over the Extrasensory dataset. These results highlight the efficiency of our methodology in accurately detecting various human activities, showing its potential for real-world applications. Moreover, the research paper introduces a hybrid system that combines machine learning and deep learning features, enhancing activity recognition performance by leveraging the strengths of both approaches.

Enhanced Deep-Learning-Based Automatic Left-Femur Segmentation Scheme with Attribute Augmentation

This research proposes augmenting cropped computed tomography (CT) slices with data attributes to enhance the performance of a deep-learning-based automatic left-femur segmentation scheme. The data attribute is the lying position for the left-femur model. In the study, the deep-learning-based automatic left-femur segmentation scheme was trained, validated, and tested using eight categories of CT input datasets for the left femur (F-I-F-VIII). The segmentation performance was assessed by Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) and intersection over union (IoU); and the similarity between the predicted 3D reconstruction images and ground-truth images was determined by spectral angle mapper (SAM) and structural similarity index measure (SSIM). The left-femur segmentation model achieved the highest DSC (88.25%) and IoU (80.85%) under category F-IV (using cropped and augmented CT input datasets with large feature coefficients), with an SAM and SSIM of 0.117-0.215 and 0.701-0.732. The novelty of this research lies in the use of attribute augmentation in medical image preprocessing to enhance the performance of the deep-learning-based automatic left-femur segmentation scheme.

Autoformer-Based Model for Predicting and Assessing Wheat Quality Changes of Pesticide Residues during Storage

Proper grain storage plays a critical role in maintaining food quality. Among a variety of grains, wheat has emerged as one of the most important grain reserves globally due to its short growing period, high yield, and storage resistance. To improve the quality assessment of wheat during storage, this study collected and analyzed monitoring data from more than 20 regions in China, including information on storage environmental parameters and changes in wheat pesticide residue concentrations. Based on these factors, an Autoformer-based model was developed to predict the changes in wheat pesticide residue concentrations during storage. A comprehensive wheat quality assessment index Q was set for the predicted and true values of pesticide residue concentrations, then combined with the K-means++ algorithm to assess the quality of wheat during storage. The results of the study demonstrate that the Autoformer model achieved the optimal prediction results and the smallest error values. The mean absolute error (MAE) and the other four error values are 0.11017, 0.01358, 0.04681, 0.11654, and 0.13005. The findings offer technical assistance and a scientific foundation for enhancing the quality of stored wheat.
