Toward Improving Human Training by Combining Wearable Full-Body IoT Sensors and Machine Learning

This paper proposes DigitalUpSkilling, a novel IoT- and AI-based framework for improving and personalising the training of workers who are involved in physical-labour-intensive jobs. DigitalUpSkilling uses wearable IoT sensors to observe how individuals perform work activities. Such sensor observations are continuously processed to synthesise an avatar-like kinematic model for each worker who is being trained, referred to as the worker's digital twins. The framework incorporates novel work activity recognition using generative adversarial network (GAN) and machine learning (ML) models for recognising the types and sequences of work activities by analysing an individual's kinematic model. Finally, the development of skill proficiency ML is proposed to evaluate each trainee's proficiency in work activities and the overall task. To illustrate DigitalUpSkilling from wearable IoT-sensor-driven kinematic models to GAN-ML models for work activity recognition and skill proficiency assessment, the paper presents a comprehensive study on how specific meat processing activities in a real-world work environment can be recognised and assessed. In the study, DigitalUpSkilling achieved 99% accuracy in recognising specific work activities performed by meat workers. The study also presents an evaluation of the proficiency of workers by comparing kinematic data from trainees performing work activities. The proposed DigitalUpSkilling framework lays the foundation for next-generation digital personalised training.

The analysis of aerobics intelligent fitness system for neurorobotics based on big data and machine learning

In modern society, people's pace of life is fast, and the pressure is enormous, leading to increasingly prominent issues such as obesity and sub-health. Traditional fitness methods cannot meet people's needs to a certain extent. Therefore, this work aims to use technology to change people's lifestyles and compensate for traditional fitness methods' shortcomings. Firstly, this work overviews neurorobotics, providing neural perception and control functions for aerobics intelligent fitness system. Secondly, the connection between big data and machine learning (ML), big data technology products, and the ML process are discussed. The Spark big data platform builds node data for calculation, and the decision tree algorithm is used for data preprocessing. These are important for future intelligent fitness analysis. This work proposes an aerobics intelligent fitness system based on neurorobotics technology and big data analysis and develops a recommendation system for the best fitness exercise. This system utilizes neural perception and control functions, combined with big data and ML technology, to solve the obesity and sub-health problems faced by people in fast-paced and high-pressure lifestyles. By harnessing the computational capabilities of the Spark big data platform and applying the decision tree algorithm for data preprocessing, the system can furnish users with personalized fitness plans and optimization recommendations. This work conducts a model performance study on 35 % aerobic fitness data on intelligent fitness Android v1.0.8 to evaluate the system's data processing ability and training effectiveness. Moreover, the aerobics intelligent fitness system models based on neurorobotics, big data, and ML are evaluated. The results indicate that normalizing the data using the Min-Max method leads to a decrease in the F1 value and a reduction in data set errors. Consequently, the dataset studied by the system model is beneficial to improving the work efficiency of the aerobics intelligent fitness system. After the comprehensive human quality of the system model is evaluated, the actual average score of the comprehensive human quality of the 13 users tested before the aerobics intelligent fitness system test is 91.44, and the average prediction score is 90.88. The results of the two tests are similar. Thus, using the intelligent fitness system can enable the user to obtain system feedback according to the actual training effect, thereby playing a guiding role in the intelligent fitness of aerobics for the user. This work designs and implements the aerobics intelligent fitness system close to the human body's training effect, further enhancing the specialization and individualization of sports and fitness.

IMU-Based Fitness Activity Recognition Using CNNs for Time Series Classification

Mobile fitness applications provide the opportunity to show users real-time feedback on their current fitness activity. For such applications, it is essential to accurately track the user's current fitness activity using available mobile sensors, such as inertial measurement units (IMUs). Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have been shown to produce strong results in different time series classification tasks, including the recognition of daily living activities. However, fitness activities can present unique challenges to the human activity recognition task (HAR), including greater similarity between individual activities and fewer available data for model training. In this paper, we evaluate the applicability of CNNs to the fitness activity recognition task (FAR) using IMU data and determine the impact of input data size and sensor count on performance. For this purpose, we adapted three existing CNN architectures to the FAR task and designed a fourth CNN variant, which we call the scaling fully convolutional network (Scaling-FCN). We designed a preprocessing pipeline and recorded a running exercise data set with 20 participants, in which we evaluated the respective recognition performances of the four networks, comparing them with three traditional machine learning (ML) methods commonly used in HAR. Although CNN architectures achieve at least 94% test accuracy in all scenarios, two traditional ML architectures surpass them in the default scenario, with support vector machines (SVMs) achieving 99.00 ± 0.34% test accuracy. The removal of all sensors except one foot sensor reduced the performance of traditional ML architectures but improved the performance of CNN architectures on our data set, with our Scaling-FCN reaching the highest accuracy of 99.86 ± 0.11% on the test set. Our results suggest that CNNs are generally well suited for fitness activity recognition, and noticeable performance improvements can be achieved if sensors are dropped selectively, although traditional ML architectures can still compete with or even surpass CNNs when favorable input data are utilized.

A wearable-based sports health monitoring system using CNN and LSTM with self-attentions

Sports performance and health monitoring are essential for athletes to maintain peak performance and avoid potential injuries. In this paper, we propose a sports health monitoring system that utilizes wearable devices, cloud computing, and deep learning to monitor the health status of sports persons. The system consists of a wearable device that collects various physiological parameters and a cloud server that contains a deep learning model to predict the sportsperson's health status. The proposed model combines a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), and self-attention mechanisms. The model is trained on a large dataset of sports persons' physiological data and achieves an accuracy of 93%, specificity of 94%, precision of 95%, and an F1 score of 92%. The sports person can access the cloud server using their mobile phone to receive a report of their health status, which can be used to monitor their performance and make any necessary adjustments to their training or competition schedule.

Steganography in IoT: Information Hiding with Joystick and Touch Sensors

This paper describes a multi-secret steganographic system for the Internet-of-Things. It uses two user-friendly sensors for data input: thumb joystick and touch sensor. These devices are not only easy to use, but also allow hidden data entry. The system conceals multiple messages into the same container, but with different algorithms. The embedding is realized with two methods of video steganography that work on mp4 files, namely, videostego and metastego. These methods were chosen because of their low complexity so that they may operate smoothly in environments with limited resources. It is possible to replace the suggested sensors with others that offer similar functionality.
