Online Learning Tools in the Era of m-Learning: Utility and Attitudes in Accounting College Students

An analytical model of college students' self-assessed satisfaction with the effectiveness of online learning: a structural equation model integrating LICE and S-O-R models

Background

Nowadays, e-learning significantly affects college students' academic life. This study aims to examine the factors that influence college students' satisfaction with online learning outcomes.

Method

The study population consisted of undergraduate students from Dalian Medical University, with a total of 715 college students participating in the study. Out of these participants, 602 valid questionnaires were obtained. Demographic data was analyzed using SPSS.22, and the data was cleaned and prepared for testing the research hypotheses. The proposed research framework was examined using structural equation modeling (SEM) through Smart-PLS 3.0.

Results

The results of the study showed that student satisfaction with learning outcomes was positively correlated with several factors: quality of teacher instruction (β = 0.100, p < 0.0001), quality of e-learning platforms (β = 0.059, p < 0.0001), individual learner factors such as learning motivation (β = 0.112, p < 0.001), and e-learning environment (β = 0.469, p < 0.001). Additionally, self-learning efficacy (β = 0.081, p < 0.0001), learning strategies (β = 0.031, p < 0.001), and learning motivation (β = 0.039, p < 0.001) were found to have mediating effects.

Conclusion

Understanding the satisfaction of college students with the effect of e-learning holds great significance in coping with teaching methods in unexpected situations. It enables adjustments to teaching strategies, improvements to learning platforms, and mobilization of students' motivation. Thus, it serves as a valuable reference in addressing unexpected teaching scenarios.

Chiropractic students' perception of remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic

OBJECTIVE

To investigate chiropractic students' preferences and perceptions of remote learning with a secondary aim of comparing individuals with and without learning challenges.

METHODS

Following the mandatory period of remote education, a 33-question, mixed-methods, anonymous online survey was distributed from March to September 2021 to a single-campus chiropractic student body with an estimated sample study population of N = 1375. Demographic variables, self-reported learning challenges, technology skills, and perceptions of remote and on-ground learning delivery modalities were gathered. Percentages, measures of central tendency, and chi-square tests were performed on the data.

RESULTS

There were 117 participants (8.5%), of whom 63.2% were female (n = 74) and 87.2% (n = 102) were aged 18-34 years. Self-identified learning challenges were present in 33.3% (n = 39) of participants, of whom 28 stated they had attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder or attention-deficit disorder. More than 85.5% (n = 100) of participants agreed they were proficient with the necessary technology. For basic science classes with a lecture and lab component, 61.5% (n = 72) preferred on-ground labs and remote lectures. Participants agreed that remote lectures and on-ground labs were a good use of time (75.2% [n = 88] and 79.5% [n = 93], respectively). There was a significant χ2 between individuals with and without learning challenges for the perception of "stimulating and interesting" (p = .044) and "attention" (p = .001) for on-ground lectures.

CONCLUSION

Chiropractic students preferred remote and on-ground education differentially for labs and lectures. On-ground labs provided greater perceived educational benefits; perceived benefits of remote lecture courses were only modestly supported. Students with self-identified learning challenges presented with some differences related to perception of on-ground lectures.

Effects of Online Learning on College Students in Eastern China: A Structural Equation Model

With the spread of COVID-19 worldwide, online education is rapidly catching on, even in some underdeveloped countries and regions. Based on Bandura's ternary learning theory and literature review, this paper takes online learning of college students as the research object and conducts an empirical survey on 6,000 college students in East China. Based on literature review and factor analysis and structural equation model, this paper discusses the relationship among learning cognition, learning behavior, and learning environment in online learning of college students. The learning behavior includes interactive communication, self-discipline mechanism, classroom learning, and study after class. The learning environment includes teaching ability, knowledge system, platform support, process control, and result evaluation; learning cognition includes learning motivation, information perception, and adaptability. It is found that the learning environment has a significant positive impact on learning behavior, and learning cognition has a significant positive impact on learning behavior. It is uncertain whether the learning environment significantly impacts learning cognition. At the learning environment level, the teaching ability (0.59) has the most significant impact on the learning environment, followed by result evaluation (0.42), platform support (0.40), process control (0.33), and knowledge system (0.13). In terms of the influence on learning behavior, classroom learning has the most significant impact (0.79), followed by self-discipline mechanism (0.65), study after class (0.54), and interactive communication (0.44). In terms of learning cognition, information perception (0.62) has the most significant influence, followed by learning motivation (0.50) and adaptability (0.41). This paper suggests strengthening the construction of platforms and digital resources to create a more competitive learning environment. Improve process management and personalized online services, constantly stimulate students' enthusiasm for independent online learning, and cultivate students' online independent learning ability to promote the sustainable and healthy development of online education.

Exploring the Factors Affecting Mobile Learning for Sustainability in Higher Education

Mobile learning (M-learning) has become an important instructional technology component in higher education. The goal of this research is to determine how Malaysian university students use M-learning in higher education. The technology acceptance model (TAM) concept was used to construct a theoretical model of M-learning acceptability. In theory, five independent criteria were discovered as contributing to the actual usage of M-learning for educational sustainability by influencing students’ attitudes towards M-learning and their intention to use it. A questionnaire survey based on the technology acceptance model (TAM) was used as the primary data collection technique, with 200 students from UTHM University of Malaysia participating. The data were analyzed using SPSS and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM-Amos). The results of the students’ attitudes towards using M-learning and their behavioral intentions to use M-learning show a beneficial impact on the actual use of M-learning as well as the long-term sustainability of M-learning in higher education. In addition, both male and female students were satisfied with perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, perceived enjoyment, attitude towards use, task-technology fit, behavioral intention to use, perceived resources and actual use of mobile learning for educational sustainability. This study contributes to the validation of the extended TAM for M-learning by demonstrating that the predicted model predicts students’ attitudes towards using M-learning and their behavioral intentions in Malaysian higher education.

Modified Blended Learning in Engineering Higher Education during the COVID-19 Lockdown—Building Automation Courses Case Study

The blended learning method with its supporting electronic tools is a very well-known approach in academic education. In most of its practical applications, direct face to face contacts between students and the teacher as well as students with each other in groups are important elements in the organization of lectures and classes. This is of particular importance in conducting laboratory classes in teaching process for engineers. However, the COVID-19 lockdown in the spring of 2020 closed schools, universities and completely eliminated the possibility of direct interpersonal contacts. These extraordinary circumstances forced changes in the organization of the teaching process, in particular the introduction of distance learning. Therefore, this paper proposes a modified blended learning method as well as describes a case study on its introduction in the education of building automation engineers at a technical university. A new organizational structure of this modified method is presented, with discussion of tools and methods of active distance learning, introduced during the COVID-19 lockdown period. Finally, some experiences, general reflections along with the identification of the preferred forms of distance learning by students are presented. The future works are briefly described as well.

Intention to Use Accounting Platforms in Romania: A Quantitative Study on Sustainability and Social Influence

Technological innovation evolves through the use of information systems and this study highlights the intentions of using accounting platforms by conducting a quantitative study on sustainability and its social influence. The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors that influence the acceptance and use by company managers of accounting platforms available online by developing the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) construct model. The research method used in the quantitative study was the sample survey, using the online questionnaire as a data collection tool. A number of 401 companies provided complete and useful answers to this research. The major contributions of the research were the use of two variables considered significant in the study: perceived credibility (PC) and perception of risk (PR). The results of the study showed that performance expectancy (PE), social influence (SI), and perceived risk (PR) have a positive influence on the intention to use the accounting platforms available online, while perceived credibility shows a much more significant and stronger influence.
