Sensory Perception Mechanism for Preparing the Combinations of Stimuli Operation in the Architectural Experience

Sensory stimuli in an architectural space play an important role in the human perception of the indoor environment, no matter whether they are static or dynamic, isolated, or combined. By enhancing some perceptions in the sensory stimuli, the overall perceptions of an architectural space can be improved, especially for an intelligent architectural space. As yet, there are few studies reported about the sensory perception mechanism for the sensory stimuli operation in the architectural experience. In this research, a wooden micro building was prepared for the study of the sensitivity level of participants to various sensory stimuli in the same and in different sensory domains. Participants’ visual, auditory, olfactory, tactile and kinaesthesia perceptions were discussed statistically in terms of the sensitivity level. Based on the study, the effect of a single dynamic sensory stimulus (a dynamically coloured light) on the participants’ perception was studied in a paper architectural model from two aspects including preference and emotion. The dynamically coloured light was discussed statistically in terms of the level of preference. The study showed that there are significant differences among participants’ levels of sensitivity to the different sensory domains and to the different sensory stimuli. In particular, the sensitivity level to the stimulus that is the colour of a space is the highest of all stimuli. As a single changing sensory stimulus, a dynamically coloured light can lead to significant mood fluctuations and changes in the preference level. In particular, yellow is the favourite colour of light. The object of this study is expected to provide a theoretical foundation that is related to sensory choice, sensory perception enhancement and the combination forms of sensory perceptions. Based on the theoretical foundation, the perception design of overlapped multi-sensory stimuli and a single dynamic stimulus can be conducted to improve the quality of the indoor environment of normal and intelligent multi-sensory architecture.

Big Data Technology in Construction Safety Management: Application Status, Trend and Challenge

The construction industry is a high-risk industry with many safety accidents. The popularity of Internet information technology has led to an explosion in the amount of data obtained in various engineering fields, and it is of necessary significance to explore the current situation of the application of big data technology in construction safety management. This paper systematically reviews 66 articles closely related to the research topic and objectives, describes the current status of big data application to various construction safety issues from the perspectives of both big data collection and big data analysis for engineering and construction projects, and categorically lists the breakthrough results of big data analysis technology in improving construction safety. Finally, the trends and challenges of big data in the field of construction safety are discussed in three directions: the application of big data to worker behavior, the prospect of integrating big data technologies, and the integration of big data technologies with construction management. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the current state of research on big data technology fueling construction safety management, providing valuable insight into improving safety at engineering construction sites and providing guidance for future research in this field.

Voice Communication in Noisy Environments in a Smart House Using Hybrid LMS+ICA Algorithm

This publication describes an innovative approach to voice control of operational and technical functions in a real Smart Home (SH) environment, where, for voice control within SH, it is necessary to provide robust technological systems for building automation and for technology visualization, software for recognition of individual voice commands, and a robust system for additive noise canceling. The KNX technology for building automation is used and described in the article. The LabVIEW SW tool is used for visualization, data connectivity to the speech recognizer, connection to the sound card, and the actual mathematical calculations within additive noise canceling. For the actual recognition of commands, the SW tool for recognition within the Microsoft Windows OS is used. In the article, the least mean squares algorithm (LMS) and independent component analysis (ICA) are used for additive noise canceling from the speech signal measured in a real SH environment. Within the proposed experiments, the success rate of voice command recognition for different types of additive interference (television, vacuum cleaner, washing machine, dishwasher, and fan) in the real SH environment was compared. The recognition success rate was greater than 95% for the selected experiments.
