Abstract
In the context of the new normal, enhancing digitalization to empower the transition to a green economy is a critical instrument to promote China's economic transition from virtual to real sectors. It is also a necessary approach to realize the high-quality economic development in China. Based on panel data of 282 prefecture-level and above cities in China from 2011 to 2020, the study employs panel regression, spatial metrics, and other methods to explore the impact of urban digitization on the transition to a green economy from the dimensions of direct and indirect transmission mechanism, as well as heterogeneous effects. The findings reveal that digitalization not only exerts a positive effect on the green transition but also generates significant spatial spillover effects. The influence of digitization level on green economic transition exhibits notable regional heterogeneity. Advancement in digitization can foster green economic transition by catalyzing green technological innovation. While digitalization contributes to the green transition by optimizing the structure of energy consumption, its mediating effect is relatively modest. Therefore, it is essential to fortify the supply of digital innovative technology and strengthen digitalization and green technology innovation to jointly facilitate the transition to a green economy. This necessitates the implementation of differentiated development paths for digitization-enabled green economic transition in various regions.

Abstract
Enterprise green innovation behavior is necessary for the transformation of enterprises and the enhancement of green development. However, the inconsistency of existing studies on the behavioral mechanism has not been effectively addressed. The purpose of this paper is to reveal a mechanism for enterprise green innovation behavior, taking the coevolutionary theory. Based on the coevolution theory model, this study screened 16 high-quality studies covering 11 countries and regions with 5471 independent samples from six major databases (Web of Science Core Collection (SCIE & SSCI), Science Direct, Springer Link, Wiley, Taylor & Francis, and Sage journals). The included literature was coded and tested. Meta-analysis was used to clarify the direction and intensity of the behavioral antecedent and outcome variables to explore the mechanism of enterprise green innovation behavior. Furthermore, this study also explores the moderating effect of regional heterogeneity on behavior. The results are as follows: (1) The economic, political, social, and technological environments significantly and positively influence enterprise green innovation behavior. (2) Enterprises' green innovation behavior significantly and positively influences environmental performance. (3) Regional heterogeneity can moderate the effects of enterprise green innovation behavior and antecedent and consequence variables. Then, this study proposes countermeasures based on government and enterprise perspectives. This study provides both theoretical and empirical referents for enterprises to better adopt green innovation behaviors and enhance their green development.

The Impact of Board Size on Green Innovation in China’s Heavily Polluting Enterprises: The Mediating Role of Innovation Openness. SUSTAINABILITY 2022. [DOI: 10.3390/su14148632] [Citation(s) in RCA: 6] [Impact Index Per Article: 3.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 02/01/2023]
Abstract
Among the many reasons to encourage enterprises to implement green innovation, external factors such as market mechanisms and policy regulation both have the greatest probability of failure. Therefore, the idea of exploring ways to promote green innovation from internal factors has gradually attracted attention. This study is based on an internal perspective to explore the relationship between board size, openness, and green innovation by using data from the heavily polluting enterprises listed in China’s A-share market from 2015 to 2020. The regression results show that board size has a significant positive impact on green innovation, and the openness breadth plays a partial mediating role. This indicates that more board members are conducive to the implementation of green innovation strategies, as well as expanding the innovation openness breadth, so as to obtain external knowledge and resources to promote green innovation. Through further heterogeneity analysis, we found that the above relationship is more significant in state-owned enterprises. Finally, this study provides new theoretical evidence for the debate over whether board size promotes or inhibits green innovation. Furthermore, it provides a path and practical guidance for enterprises to implement green innovation more effectively by relying on their directors’ networks and increasing their own openness.

How to Improve Green Innovation Performance: A Conditional Process Analysis. SUSTAINABILITY 2022. [DOI: 10.3390/su14052938] [Citation(s) in RCA: 6] [Impact Index Per Article: 3.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 12/10/2022]
Abstract
Green innovation strategy (GIS) is an appropriate choice for most enterprises to deal with environmental problems. Organizational green learning (OGL) enables enterprises to obtain more updated environmental knowledge and promote green innovation performance (GIP). It is unclear whether adopting green innovation strategy is inevitably beneficial to green product innovation and green process innovation, and the studies in this area are still incomplete. According to the Natural Resource-Based View and Knowledge-Based View, this study advances a conditional processmodel to understand how green innovation strategy impacts green innovation performance through organizational green learning in a context of green technological turbulence (GTT). We conducted an empirical study with a probabilistic sample of 316 innovative enterprises using the partial least squares and regression analysis in order to verify the research framework. The results show a positive relationship between green innovation strategy and green innovation performance, organizational green learning played a partial mediating effect, and green technology turbulence significantly moderated the relationship between organizational green learning and green innovation performance. The impact of organizational green learning on green innovation performance is greater when green technology turbulence is higher than when it is low. These findings extend the green innovation performance research and practice.
