Gradient-Based Optimizer (GBO): A Review, Theory, Variants, and Applications

This paper introduces a comprehensive survey of a new population-based algorithm so-called gradient-based optimizer (GBO) and analyzes its major features. GBO considers as one of the most effective optimization algorithm where it was utilized in different problems and domains, successfully. This review introduces set of related works of GBO where distributed into; GBO variants, GBO applications, and evaluate the efficiency of GBO compared with other metaheuristic algorithms. Finally, the conclusions concentrate on the existing work on GBO, showing its disadvantages, and propose future works. The review paper will be helpful for the researchers and practitioners of GBO belonging to a wide range of audiences from the domains of optimization, engineering, medical, data mining and clustering. As well, it is wealthy in research on health, environment and public safety. Also, it will aid those who are interested by providing them with potential future research.

A Novel Intelligent ANFIS for the Dynamic Model of Photovoltaic Systems

Developing accurate models for photovoltaic (PV) systems has a significant impact on the evaluation of the accuracy and testing of PV systems. Artificial intelligence (AI) is the science of developing machine jobs to be more intelligent, similar to the human brain. Involving AI techniques in modeling has a significant modification in the accuracy of the developed models. In this paper, a novel dynamic PV model based on AI is proposed. The proposed dynamic PV model was designed based on an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). ANFIS is a combination of a neural network and a fuzzy system; thus, it has the advantages of both techniques. The design process is well discussed. Several types of membership functions, different numbers of training, and different numbers of membership functions are tested via MATLAB simulations until the AI requirements of the ANFIS model are satisfied. The obtained model is evaluated by comparing the model accuracy with the classical dynamic models proposed in the literature. The root mean square error (RMSE) of the real PV system output current is compared with the output current of the proposed PV model. The ANFIS model is trained based on input–output data captured from a real PV system under specified irradiance and temperature conditions. The proposed model is compared with classical dynamic PV models such as the integral-order model (IOM) and fractional-order model (FOM), which have been proposed in the literature. The use of ANFIS to model dynamic PV systems achieves an accurate dynamic PV model in comparison with the classical dynamic IOM and FOM.

An Eagle Strategy Arithmetic Optimization Algorithm for Frequency Stability Enhancement Considering High Renewable Power Penetration and Time-Varying Load

This study proposes a new optimization technique, known as the eagle strategy arithmetic optimization algorithm (ESAOA), to address the limitations of the original algorithm called arithmetic optimization algorithm (AOA). ESAOA is suggested to enhance the implementation of the original AOA. It includes an eagle strategy to avoid premature convergence and increase the populations’ efficacy to reach the optimum solution. The improved algorithm is utilized to fine-tune the parameters of the fractional-order proportional-integral-derivative (FOPID) and the PID controllers for supporting the frequency stability of a hybrid two-area multi-sources power system. Here, each area composites a combination of conventional power plants (i.e., thermal-hydro-gas) and renewable energy sources (i.e., wind farm and solar farm). Furthermore, the superiority of the proposed algorithm has been validated based on 23 benchmark functions. Then, the superiority of the proposed FOPID-based ESAOA algorithm is verified through a comparison of its performance with other controller performances (i.e., PID-based AOA, PID-based ESAOA, and PID-based teaching learning-based optimization TLBO) under different operating conditions. Furthermore, the system nonlinearities, system uncertainties, high renewable power penetration, and control time delay has been considered to ensure the effectiveness of the proposed FOPID based on the ES-AOA algorithm. All simulation results elucidate that the domination in favor of the proposed FOPID-based ES-AOA algorithm in enhancing the frequency stability effectually will guarantee a reliable performance.
