Application of the Fuzzy CODAS Method Based on Fuzzy Envelopes for Hesitant Fuzzy Linguistic Term Sets: A Case Study on a Personnel Selection Problem

Application of Integrated BWM Fuzzy-MARCOS Approach for Coating Material Selection in Tooling Industries

The life of metal forming dies and the efficiency of tooling industries depends on the mechanical and wear properties of tool steel. These properties can be further improved by depositing the ceramic coating on heat-treated tool steel. Numerous coating materials with various excellent features are already available commercially; however, the selection of the best coating material is still an immense challenge for users. Compared to various studies related to material selection problems in the contrasting area of utilization, remarkably, little research work has been done in tooling industries. In the present work, we have identified eight coating materials (alternatives) and nine evaluation criteria under the consultation of an expert in the tooling application and tribological field. To deal with this coating material selection problem, an integrated fuzzy-multi attributed decision-making method is proposed which comprises best worst method and fuzzy-Measurement Alternatives and Ranking according to the Compromise Solution method. This integrated fuzzy- multi attributed decision-making method is used to evaluate the alternatives, and the obtained results were scrutinized via utilizing various sensitivity analysis procedures. In the first phase of analysis, seven scenarios of criteria weight change were used, which was derived by the best-worst method; dynamic matrices are used in the second phase of analysis. In the third and fourth phases, obtained ranks were compared with those obtained by different weight calculation methods and ranking methods, respectively. In the present study, AlCrN/TiAlN coating (alternative Cm₅) was found to be the best coating material based on the results obtained after sensitivity analysis. Further, in this study, we have proposed a novel method that helps to solve the coating material selection problem or any kind of selection complications.

TODIM method based on the CRITIC method for multi-attribute group decision making with dual probabilistic linguistic information

The main research of this paper is decision making under the dual probabilistic linguistic term sets (DPLTSs). This paper introduces a method, which combined TODIM method and CRITIC method. In this research, the CRITIC method is used to determine the weight, and the distance formula of TODIM method has been modified in order to adapt to DPLTS situation. Then, the TODIM method is used for multi-attribute group decision making (MAGDM) problem. Finally, a case study concerning investment project selection is given to demonstrate the merits of the developed methods. This combined method can be used for the automatic areal feature matching, medical quality assessment, and ranking of matching processes. There are very few papers about using TODIM method under DPLTS situation at present, so this is a new perspective on MAGDM. The DPLTS-TODIM-CRITIC method was compared with correlation coefficient method and closeness coefficient method, and it is easy to find the advantage of this new method over the other two existing methods.

A Weighted Bonferroni-OWA Operator Based Cumulative Belief Degree Approach to Personnel Selection Based on Automated Video Interview Assessment Data

Asynchronous Video Interviewing (AVI) is considered one of the most recent and promising innovations in the recruitment process. Using AVI in combination with AI-based technologies enables recruiters/employers to automate many of the tasks that are typically required for screening, assessing, and selecting candidates. In fact, the automated assessment and selection process is a complex and uncertain problem involving highly subjective, multiple interrelated criteria. In order to address these issues, an effective and practical approach is proposed that is able to transform, weight, combine, and rank automated AVI assessments obtained through AI technologies and machine learning. The suggested approach combines Cumulative Belief Structures with the Weighted Bonferroni-OWA operator, which allows (i) aggregating assessment scores obtained in different forms and scales; (ii) incorporating interrelationships between criteria into the analysis (iii) considering accuracies of the learning algorithms as weights of criteria; and (iv) weighting criteria objectively. The proposed approach ensures a completely data-driven and efficient approach to the personnel selection process. To justify the effectiveness and applicability of the suggested approach, an example case is presented in which the new approach is compared to classical MCDM techniques.

Application of the Choquet Integral: A Case Study on a Personnel Selection Problem

Personnel selection plays a decisive role in human resource management since it determines the input quality of personnel. One approach, fuzzy decision-making methods, has become popular in decision making for personnel selection, considering those methods provide a wide range of tools for dealing with uncertainty. Choquet integral is an aggregation operator, frequently used to unite interrelated information. Choquet integral, with respect to fuzzy, allows consideration of the phenomenon of dependence between criteria. In this paper, personnel selection was performed using the Choquet integral, based on a fuzzy measure. The problem of the evaluation of employees is performed with respect to the personal characteristics of the employees, task performance, employee–employee relationship approaches, and effectiveness of communication.

A Proposed Framework for Developing FMEA Method Using Pythagorean Fuzzy CODAS

The purpose of this research article is to develop a hybridization between the Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) method and the Combinative Distance-Based Assessment (CODAS) method under Pythagorean Fuzzy environment. The traditional FMEA procedure is based on the multiplication between the parameters of severity, occurrence, and detectability where everyone has equal relative importance; therefore, different combinations of these parameters can generate the same result creating uncertainty in the analysis. In this mode, the hybridization proposed in this research deal with relative importance of each parameter; in the fact to have a more suitable combination which consider the level of knowledge of the experts in the assessment. Finally, a numerical case was carried out concerning the public transportation service to validate our proposal; the results show that 31 failure modes and potential risks can be evaluated using user perceptions, a dominant with high level of knowledge about the public transportation service and an apprentice or common user, as team of experts and exploiting the subjectivity of the information in a mathematical model. Also, we compare the results with a variation of the proposed model with the multi-criteria method multi-objective optimization method by relationship analysis (MOORA); it was observed that the convergence of the failure modes depends on the nature of the mathematical model even under the same conditions at the start.

Model for the Sustainable Material Selection by Applying Integrated Dempster-Shafer Evidence Theory and Additive Ratio Assessment (ARAS) Method

The construction industry is a vital part of the modern economic system. Construction work often has significant negative impacts on the environment and sustainable economic development, such as degradation of the environment, depletion of resources, and waste generation. Therefore, environmental concerns must be taken into account when evaluating and making decisions in the construction industry. In this regard, sustainable construction is considered as the best way to avoid resource depletion and address environmental concerns. Selection of sustainable building materials is an important strategy in sustainable construction that plays an important role in the design and construction phase of buildings. The assessment of experts is one of the most important steps in the material selection process, and their subjective judgment can lead to unpredictable uncertainty. The existing methods cannot effectively demonstrate and address uncertainty. This paper proposes an integrated Dempster-Shafer (DS) theory of evidence and the ARAS method for selecting sustainable materials under uncertainty. The Dempster-Shafer Evidence Theory is a relatively new and appropriate tool for substantiating decisions when information is nonspecific, ambiguous, or conflicting. The Additive Ratio Assessment (ARAS) method has many advantages to deal with MCDM problems with non-commensurable and even conflicting criteria and to obtain the priority of alternatives based on the utility function. The proposed method converts experts’ opinions into the basic probability assignments for real alternatives, which are suitable for DS evidence theory. It uses the ARAS method to obtain final estimation results. Finally, a real case study identifying the priority of using five possible alternative building materials demonstrates the usefulness of the proposed approach in addressing the challenges of sustainable construction. Four main criteria including economic, social, environmental, and technical criteria and 25 sub-criteria were considered for the selection of sustainable materials. The specific case study using the proposed method reveals that the weight of economic, socio-cultural, environmental, and technical criteria are equal to 0.327, 0.209, 0.241, and 0.221, respectively. Based on these results, economic and environmental criteria are determined as the most important criteria. The results of applying the proposed method reveal that aluminum siding with a final score of 0.538, clay brick with a score of 0.494, and stone façade with a final score of 0.482 are determined as the best alternatives in terms of sustainability.

Implementation of the new easy approach to fuzzy multi-criteria decision aid in the field of management

Decision-making is one of the most important management functions and a critical task for managers. The tools that support decision makers in making decisions are Multi-criteria Decision Making/Aid/Analysis (MCDM/MCDA) methods. Since most decisions are made under conditions of uncertainty, the fuzzy MCDM/MCDA methods are particularly important as they allow capturing the uncertainty and imprecision of the information used in making decisions. This method is the Fuzzy Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluation (Fuzzy PROMETHEE), and its extension in the form of New Easy Approach to Fuzzy PROMETHEE (NEAT F-PROMETHEE). However, the unavailability of software using the NEAT F-PROMETHEE method significantly reduces its ease of use and may discourage potential users and researchers considering using it in their studies. Therefore, to facilitate the use of this MCDA method, the article presents the implementation of NEAT F-PROMETHEE in the MATLAB environment. Moreover, the verification of the developed implementation and its application in the management decision-making problem is presented, together with the analysis of the operation of the mapping correction function used in NEAT F-PROMETHEE. The results obtained with NEAT F-PROMETHEE were compared with the results of the Fuzzy PROMETHEE method which did not apply correction. The analysis shows that the correction applied in NEAT F-PROMETHEE allows obtaining results with a smaller error than the non-corrected implementations of PROMETHEE Fuzzy. Therefore, a more accurate solution of the decision problem is obtained.•

Model of Evaluation and Selection of Expert Group Members for Smart Cities, Green Transportation and Mobility: From Safe Times to Pandemic Times

This paper presents the development of technologies to support the decision-making of local government executives and smart city concept managers in selecting and evaluating the competencies of new members for advisory groups for solving problems that are implemented in safe times in individual areas or in crises, such as pandemics. The reason for developing effective urban transformation strategies and for the transparent selection of independent experts (non-politicians) for policymaking, decision-making, and implementation teams is not only the heterogeneity of smart city dimensions together with the necessary complexity and systems approach, but also the nature of the capacities and tools needed for smart city concepts. The innovative hybrid competency assessment model is based on fuzzy logic and a network for neuro-fuzzy assessment. It is a technological model for evaluating the competencies of specialists, taking into account the influence of human factors on the processes of personnel selection and system management. An innovative web platform named “Smart City Concept Personnel Selection” has been designed, which can be adapted to various users of municipalities or regional institutions for the transparent selection of qualified personnel for effective decision-making and the use of public funds during safe times or emergencies, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Modified CRITIC Method to Estimate the Objective Weights of Decision Criteria

In this study, we developed a modified version of the CRiteria Importance Through Inter-criteria Correlation (CRITIC) method, namely the Distance Correlation-based CRITIC (D-CRITIC) method. The usage of the method was illustrated by evaluating the weights of five smartphone criteria. The same evaluation was repeated using four other objective weighting methods, including the original CRITIC method. The results from all the methods were further analyzed based on three different tests (i.e., the distance correlation test, the Spearman rank-order correlation test, and the symmetric mean absolute percentage error test) to validate D-CRITIC. The tests revealed that D-CRITIC could produce more valid criteria weights and ranks than the original CRITIC method since D-CRITIC yielded a higher average distance correlation, a higher average Spearman rank-order correlation, and a lower symmetric mean absolute percentage error. Besides, additional sensitivity analysis indicated that D-CRITIC has the tendency to deliver more stable criteria weights and ranks with a larger decision matrix. The research has contributed an alternative objective weighting method to the area of multi-criteria decision-making through a unique extension of distance correlation. This study is also the first to propose the idea of a distance correlation test to compare the performance of different criteria weighting methods.

Assessment Urban Transport Service and Pythagorean Fuzzy Sets CODAS Method: A Case of Study of Ciudad Juárez

The purpose of this research article is to provide a comprehensive method of evaluation for public transportation. In this sense, this study considers transport lines that offer in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. Hence, this study presents a description of the public transport system as part of the literature review. Likewise, the document describes an appropriate model based on the more outstanding publications about urban mobility and public transportation for passengers. Nevertheless, it is based on the Pythagorean Fuzzy combinative distance-based assessment (CODAS) to analyze and evaluate the alternatives through criteria that define general performance. Thus, the integration of these methods provides an adequate methodology for decision-making concerning urban planning and mobility to detect and improve the performance of criteria not considered within sustainable urban mobility plans. Results show how the applied approach can work as a powerful tool for the appraisal of the transport service. Finally, the results give relevant information to the local authority of the transport management of Ciudad Juarez to do improvements focused on the user.

An Alternate Unsupervised Technique Based on Distance Correlation and Shannon Entropy to Estimate λ0-Fuzzy Measure

λ0-measure is a special type of fuzzy measure. In the context of multi-attribute decision making (MADM), the measure can be used together with Choquet integral to model the interdependencies that usually present between the decision attributes. Unfortunately, the range of techniques available to estimate λ0-measure values is too limited i.e., only four techniques are available to this date. Besides, the review on literature shows that each of these existing techniques either requires some initial data from the decision-makers or misrepresents the actual interdependencies held by the attributes. Thus, an alternate unsupervised technique is needed for the estimation of λ0-measure values. This study has developed such a technique by integrating the idea of distance correlation and Shannon entropy. In this technique, the two inputs required to estimate λ0-measure values, namely, the interdependence degrees and fuzzy densities are determined by utilizing the distance correlation measures and entropy weights, respectively. An evaluation to rank the websites owned by five different hospitals located in Sabah, Malaysia, was conducted to illustrate the usage of the technique. A similar evaluation was also performed with a few selected MADM techniques for comparison purposes, where the proposed technique is found to have produced the most consistent ranking. From the literature perspective, this study has contributed an alternate unsupervised technique that can estimate λ0-measure values without necessitating any additional data from the decision-makers, and at the same time can better capture the interdependencies held by the attributes.

A Two-Phase Model for Personnel Selection Based on Multi-Type Fuzzy Information

From the viewpoint of human resource management, personnel selection is one of the more important issues for enterprises in a high-level competitive environment. In general, many influence factors, quantitative and qualitative, affect the decision-making process of personnel selection. For considering qualitative factors, decision-makers cannot always easily judge the suitable degree of each applicant. Under this situation, this research proposes a systematic decision-making method based on computing with linguistic variables. First, unsuitable applicants are filtered by considering the quantitative information of each applicant. At this stage, technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) and entropy methods are aggregated to eliminate unsuitable applicants in accordance with their closeness coefficient values. Second, experts (or decision-makers) use different types of 2-tuple linguistic variables to express their opinions of suitable candidates with respect to qualitative criteria. At this stage, we consider different preference functions in the preference ranking organization method for enrichment evaluation (PROMETHEE) method to calculate the outranking index of each suitable candidate. Next, we aggregate the closeness coefficient and outranking index of each suitable applicant to determine the ranking order. In order to illustrate the computational processes, an example demonstrates the practicability of the two-phase personnel selection method. The benefit of the proposed method is as follows. (1) It reduces the time for reviewing and evaluating the huge numbers of applicants. (2) It avoids subjective judgment by experts to determine the weights of all criteria. Finally, conclusions and contributions are discussed at the end of this paper.

Parking Site Selection for Light Rail Stations in Muaeng District, Khon Kaen, Thailand

Khon Kaen District is in the central, north-east part of Thailand and is being developed to handle the country’s growth. Khon Kaen District is undertaking the project of building a light rail as a facility for the people. Consequently, one of the problems is ensuring adequate parking for people using the light rail service. In general, the symmetry concept naturally used in decision making to finding an optimal solution for decision and optimization problems. In this paper, multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) and multi-objective decision making (MODM) were used to solve the parking site selection problem, which made the decision easier. This paper proposed an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) technique, combined with the geographical information system (GIS), to evaluate the weight of the criteria used in the analysis and find potential parking solutions. Furthermore, this paper proposed the application of a linguistic technique with fuzzy TOPSIS methods to analyze the appropriateness of parking site selections from potential candidates to support use of the light rail. The results of the MCDA show that the most suitable parking lot location is along the light rail and closest to the business area. The results of the fuzzy TOPSIS method, both positive and negative ideal decisions, can help inform decision makers in selecting which candidate site is optimal for parking.

A Hybrid MCDM Model to Select Optimal Hosts of Variety Shows in the Social Media Era

The selection of the optimal variety show hosts is a key to television stations. However, no study has a deal with this issue. In this paper, a hybrid multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) model based on the fuzzy Delphi method, decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL), analytic network process (ANP), and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) to choose optimal hosts of variety shows for television stations in the social media era was developed. The fuzzy Delphi method was taken as a screening tool for the selection criteria of variety show hosts. Then, DEMATEL was applied to verify the interdependencies between the perspectives. According to the interdependencies, ANP was employed to obtain weights. Finally, TOPSIS ranked the alternatives. The selection criteria were gathered from previous researches and discussions with senior executives of television stations. By the fuzzy Delphi method, 12 criteria were identified. Based on the past study and consultations with four senior executives, we classified 12 essential criteria into four perspectives to develop the hierarchy for the variety show host selection. Under the hierarchy base on four perspectives and 12 criteria, managers of television stations could select the optimal variety show hosts more effectively. The usability and efficiency of the proposed model were also considered by a case study. We offered a distinct contribution to the prior studies by providing a model in the variety show host selection field. In the context of social media competition, this study also added the selection criteria from Internet celebrities.

CODAS HFLTS Method to Appraise Organizational Culture of Innovation and Complex Technological Changes Environments

Sustainable development implies establishing principles, objectives and strategies within organizations that impact the organizational culture in innovation. However, a method needs to be defined in order to know the critical factors that allow the strengthening of the organizational culture in innovation with emphasis on Industry 4.0 and sustainable development in a highly changing environment for a specific organization. In this sense, the paper identifies the set of factors that are documented through reviews and analysis of the literature, subsequently proposes a Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) methodology using hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (HFLTS) and combinative distance-based assessment (CODAS), where factors are evaluated to obtain a score and hierarchy value. Weight values were calculated using the ambiguity reduction method, which incorporates the knowledge acquired by researchers in organizational culture of innovation and expert judgment under the Saaty scale used in analytic hierarchy process (AHP). Finally, a model of organizational culture in innovation is proposed that can be used by organizations to focus strategies on the factors of greater hierarchy and thereby optimize their resources considering the sustainable development and the Industry 4.0 approach.

A MAGDM Method Based on Possibility Distribution Hesitant Fuzzy Linguistic Term Set and Its Application

The sustainable third-party reverse logistics provider (3PRLP) selection, as the core of sustainable supply chain management, has become paramount in research nowadays. In the actual evaluation process, the decision makers may hesitate in a few linguistic terms and have different partiality towards each term, hence the possibility distribution based hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (PDHFLTSs), as expressed by a consecutive or non-consecutive linguistic term set, is suitable for such an evaluation. The purpose of this paper is to solve sustainable 3PRLP selection problems with linguistic information by developing an effective and robust method. We firstly redefine the covariance-based correlation coefficient that can simplify the computation to calculate the consensus degree, and then introduce the hesitant degree in context of possibility distribution information, in order to enrich measures of PDHFLTSs. On this basis, the weights of experts are computed for expression aggregation. Secondly, to overcome attributes’ weights staying constant, the combination of group utility function and variable weight approach is introduced to give the weights of attributes. Most importantly, a decision method, called MULTIMOORA, is optimized by improving the ranking position method, and then, through the combination with PDHFLTS, we proposed a possibility distribution based hesitant fuzzy linguistic MULTIMOORA method with great robustness. At last, the presented method is applied to the field of sustainable third-party reverse logistics provider selection in the e-commerce express industry and the effectiveness is verified by several comparative analyses.
