Statistical inference for Gompertz distribution under adaptive type-II progressive hybrid censoring

Gompertz distribution is a significant and commonly used lifetime distribution, which plays an important role in reliability engineering. In this paper, we study the statistical inference of Gompertz distribution based on adaptive Type-II hybrid progressive censored schemes. From the perspective of frequentist, we derive the point estimations through the method of maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) and the existence of MLE is proved. Besides MLE, we propose the stochastic EM algorithm to reduce complexity and simplify computing. We also apply the method of Bootstraps (Bootstrap-p and Bootstrap-t) to construct confidence intervals. From Bayesian aspect, the Bayes estimates of the unknown parameters are evaluated by applying the MCMC method, the average length and coverage rate of credible intervals are also carried out. The Bayes inference is based on the squared error loss function and LINEX loss function. Furthermore, a numerical simulation is conducted to assess the performance of the proposed methods. Finally, a real-life example is considered to illustrate the application and development of the inference methods. In summary, the Bayesian method seems to perform the best among all approaches, while other approaches also present different advantages.

Applicability of modified weibull extension distribution in modeling censored medical datasets: a bayesian perspective

There are some contributions analyzing the censored medical datasets using modifications of the conventional lifetime distribution; however most of the said contributions did not considered the modification of the Weibull distribution (WD). The WD is an important lifetime model. Due to its prime importance in modeling life data, many researchers have proposed different modifications of WD. One of the most recent modifications of WD is Modified Weibull Extension distribution (MWED). However, the ability of MWED to model the censored medical data has not yet been explored in the literature. We have explored the suitability of the model in modeling censored medical datasets. The analysis has been carried out using Bayesian methods under different loss functions and informative priors. The approximate Bayes estimates have been computed using Lindley's approximation. Based on detailed simulation study and real life analysis, it has been concluded that Bayesian methods performed better as compared to maximum likelihood estimates. In case of small samples, the performance of Bayes estimates under ELF and informative prior was the best. However, in case of large samples, the choice of prior and loss function did not affect the efficiency of the results to a large extend. The MWED performed efficiently in modeling real censored datasets relating to survival times of the leukemia and bile duct cancer patients. The MWED was explored to be a very promising candidate model for modeling censored medical datasets.

Analysis for Xgamma Parameters of Life under Type-II Adaptive Progressively Hybrid Censoring with Applications in Engineering and Chemistry

Censoring mechanisms are widely used in various life tests, such as medicine, engineering, biology, etc., as they save (overall) test time and cost. In this context, we consider the problem of estimating the unknown xgamma parameter and some survival characteristics, such as reliability and failure rate functions in the presence of adaptive type-II progressive hybrid censored data. For this purpose, the maximum likelihood and Bayesian inferential approaches are used. Using the observed Fisher information under s-normal approximation, different asymptotic confidence intervals for any function of the unknown parameter were constructed. Using the gamma flexible prior, Bayes estimators against the squared-error loss were developed. Two procedures of Bayesian approximations—Lindley’s approximation and Metropolis–Hastings algorithm—were used to carry out the Bayes estimates and to construct the associated credible intervals. An extensive simulation study was implemented to compare the performance of the different methods. To validate the proposed methodologies of inference—two practical studies using datasets that form engineering and chemical fields are discussed.

Inference for Inverse Power Lomax Distribution with Progressive First-Failure Censoring

This paper investigates the statistical inference of inverse power Lomax distribution parameters under progressive first-failure censored samples. The maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) and the asymptotic confidence intervals are derived based on the iterative procedure and asymptotic normality theory of MLEs, respectively. Bayesian estimates of the parameters under squared error loss and generalized entropy loss function are obtained using independent gamma priors. For Bayesian computation, Tierney–Kadane’s approximation method is used. In addition, the highest posterior credible intervals of the parameters are constructed based on the importance sampling procedure. A Monte Carlo simulation study is carried out to compare the behavior of various estimates developed in this paper. Finally, a real data set is analyzed for illustration purposes.

Estimation for Entropy and Parameters of Generalized Bilal Distribution under Adaptive Type II Progressive Hybrid Censoring Scheme

Entropy measures the uncertainty associated with a random variable. It has important applications in cybernetics, probability theory, astrophysics, life sciences and other fields. Recently, many authors focused on the estimation of entropy with different life distributions. However, the estimation of entropy for the generalized Bilal (GB) distribution has not yet been involved. In this paper, we consider the estimation of the entropy and the parameters with GB distribution based on adaptive Type-II progressive hybrid censored data. Maximum likelihood estimation of the entropy and the parameters are obtained using the Newton–Raphson iteration method. Bayesian estimations under different loss functions are provided with the help of Lindley’s approximation. The approximate confidence interval and the Bayesian credible interval of the parameters and entropy are obtained by using the delta and Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods, respectively. Monte Carlo simulation studies are carried out to observe the performances of the different point and interval estimations. Finally, a real data set has been analyzed for illustrative purposes.

Exact Likelihood Inference for an Exponential Parameter under Generalized Adaptive Progressive Hybrid Censoring

In this paper, we propose a new type censoring scheme named a generalized adaptive progressive hybrid censoring scheme (GenAdPrHyCS). In this new type censoring scheme, the experiment is assured to stop at a pre-assigned time. This censoring scheme is designed to correct the drawbacks in the AdPrHyCS. Furthermore, we discuss inference for one parameter exponential distribution (ExD) under GenAdPrHyCS. We derive the moment generating function of the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) of scale parameter of ExD and the resulting lower confidence bound under GenAdPrHyCS.
