Abstract
Gold coordinated to neutral phosphines (R3 P), N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) or anionic ligands is catalytically active in functionalizing various C-H bonds with high selectivity. The sterics/electronic nature of the studied C-H bond, oxidation state of gold and stereoelectronic capacity of the coordinated auxiliary ligand are some of the associated selectivity factors in gold-catalyzed C-H bond functionalization reactions. Hence, in this review a comprehensive update about the action of different types of gold catalysts, from simple to sophisticated ones, on C-H bond reactions and their regiochemical outcome is disclosed. This review also highlights the catalytic applications of Au(I)- and Au(III)-species in creating new opportunities for the regio- and site-selective activation of challenging C-H bonds. Finally, it also intends to stress the potential applications in selective C-H bond activation associated with a variety of heterocycles recently described in the literature.

Abstract
Heteroarene-tethered functionalized alkynes are multipotent synthons in organic chemistry. This detailed Review described herein offers a thorough discussion of the metamorphosis of heteroarene-tethered functionalized alkynes, an area which has earned much attention over the past decade in the straightforward synthesis of architecturally complex heterocyclic scaffolds in atom and step economic manner. Depending upon the variety of functionalized alkynes, this Review is divided into multiple sections. Amongst the vast array of synthetic transformations covered, dearomatizing spirocyclizations and cascade spirocyclization/rearrangement are of great interest. Synthetic transformations involving the heteroarene-tethered functionalized alkynes with scope, challenges, limitations, mechanism, their application in the total synthesis of natural products and future perceptions are surveyed.

Abstract
A gold-catalyzed intramolecular hydroarylation/aromatization of pyrrole-ynes has been developed. This method provides a concise and straightforward route to functionalized indolizines through the construction of the pyridine ring of indolizines and also allows elaboration of its pyrrole moiety with or without functional groups. In addition, a wide variety of functional groups, such as aryl, alkenyl, alkynyl, pyridyl or thienyl groups, can be easily incorporated into the pyridine unit of the indolizine products under mild conditions. The utility of the indolizine products was demonstrated by their efficient transformations into various C3-functionalized indolizine derivatives.

Theoretical Insight into the Mechansim and Origin of Ligand-Controlled Regioselectivity in Homogenous Gold-Catalyzed Intramolecular Hydroarylation of Alkynes. J Org Chem 2018; 83:2763-2772. Abstract
This work aims at understanding the mechanism and regioselectivity in ligand-controlled gold-catalyzed divergent intramolecular hydroarylation of alkynes reported by Jiang et al. ( J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2016 , 138 , 5218 - 5221 ). Focusing on a representative alkyne, N-propargyl-N-tosylaniline, we conducted a detailed computational study on the ortho- and para-position hydroarylation of the alkyne catalyzed by gold(I) catalysts with different ligands. Both the ortho- and para-position hydroarylation reactions are found to follow a similar three-stage mechanism: electrophilic cyclization, proton loss, and protiodeauration. The initial electrophilic cyclization was identified as the rate- and regiochemistry-determining step. With the flexible electron-deficient phosphite ligand, the ortho-position cyclization is identified as the energetically more favorable pathway, while with the rigid electron-abundant phosphine (Xphos) ligand, the dominant pathway turns to the para-position cyclization. The theoretical results are in good agreement with the experimental observations. The π-π interaction between alkynyl phenyl and the directing acylamino group are found to be mainly responsible for the observed ortho-selectivity, while a combination of favorable noncovalent CH···π interaction and steric repulsion between Xphos ligand and alkynyl group contributes to the observed exclusive para-selectivity. The present calculations provide deeper insight into the mechanism and origin of regioselectivity of the title reaction.

Abstract
A gold(III) complex of an N-heterocyclic carbene based hemilabile ligand with two pendant pyrazole arms (1,3-bis((1H-pyrazol-3-yl)methyl)-2,3-dihydro-1H-imidazole, LH) was synthesized. Complex [LAu(III)Cl3] is an excellent catalyst for promoting dihydroalkoxylation at room temperature, even catalyzing this reaction at 0 °C. [LAu(III)Cl3] is one of the most efficient catalysts reported to date for the spirocyclization of alkynyl diols. Furthermore, [LAu(III)Cl3] catalyzed intra- and intermolecular hydroamination reactions, achieving good to excellent conversions. [LAu(III)Cl3] is a more efficient catalyst than a gold(I) analogue, [LAu(I)Cl]. The dependence of the quantity of weakly coordinating anion [BArF4]- ((3,5-trifluoromethyl)phenyl borate) present on catalysis efficiency was probed for the dihydroalkoxylation reaction. X-ray diffraction analysis of single crystals demonstrated the solid-state structure of gold complexes [LAu(III)Cl3] and [LAu(I)Cl], which displayed the expected square-planar and linear coordination geometries, respectively.

Abstract
A highly enantioselective Friedel-Crafts alkylation of pyrrole to β,γ-unsaturated α-ketoesters was developed by virtue of a chiral copper complex, affording the alkylated derivatives of pyrrole with good yields and excellent enantioselectivities. Moreover, merging copper catalysis with gold catalysis realized a one-pot construction of the seven-membered ring to give annulated pyrroles with moderate to good yields and high enantiomeric excesses.

Abstract
The combination of cinchona-alkaloid-derived primary amine and Au(I) -phosphine catalysts allowed the selective C-H functionalization of two adjacent carbon atoms of pyrroles under mild reaction conditions. This sequential dual activation provides seven-membered-ring-annulated pyrrole derivatives in excellent yields and enantioselectivities.

Abstract
The scope and the generality of gold versus silver catalyzed intramolecular hydroarylation reactions of 3-[(3-arylprop-2-ynyl)oxy]benzene derivatives in terms of rings substitution were investigated. Only products deriving from 6-endo cyclization were exclusively formed. The features of substituents had a considerable effect on the reaction outcome in the presence of silver catalysis, whereas gold catalysis revealed a unique blend of reactivity and selectivity and represented the only choice for the intramolecular hydroarylation reaction of the starting substrates bearing electron deficient arenes.
