Abstract
BACKGRUOUND Changes in thyrotropin receptor antibody (TRAb) levels are associated with the clinical outcomes of Graves' hyperthyroidism. However, the effects of the patterns of TRAb changes on patient prognosis according to the treatment duration of antithyroid drugs (ATDs) are not well established. METHODS In this retrospective cohort study, 1,235 patients with Graves' hyperthyroidism who were treated with ATDs for more than 12 months were included. Patients were divided into two groups according to treatment duration: group 1 (12-24 months) and group 2 (>24 months). Risk prediction models comprising age, sex, and either TRAb levels at ATD withdrawal (model A) or patterns of TRAb changes (model B) were compared. RESULTS The median treatment duration in groups 1 (n=667, 54%) and 2 (n=568, 46%) was 17.3 and 37.1 months, respectively. The recurrence rate was significantly higher in group 2 (47.9%) than in group 1 (41.4%, P=0.025). Group 2 had significantly more goiter, thyroid eye disease, and fluctuating and smoldering type of TRAb pattern compared with group 1 (all P<0.001). The patterns of TRAb changes were an independent risk factor for recurrence after adjusting for other confounding factors in all patients, except in group 1. Integrated discrimination improvement and net reclassification improvement analyses showed that model B performed better than model A in all patients, except in group 1. CONCLUSION The dynamic risk model, including the patterns of TRAb changes, was more suitable for predicting prognosis in patients with Graves' hyperthyroidism who underwent longer ATD treatment duration.

Abstract
CONTEXT Bioassays provide information on the functionality of thyrotropin receptor antibodies (TSH-R-Ab) and thus may offer more clinical utility than binding assays. OBJECTIVE In this prospective, blinded, US-based study, the clinical performance of several TSH-R-Ab assays was compared. SETTING US endocrinology clinic. SUBJECTS One hundred sixty-two unselected, consecutive, well-documented patients with various thyroid diseases and healthy controls. INTERVENTION(S) Blinded TSH-R-Ab measurements. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S) Sensitivity and specificity of 4 TSH-R-Ab assays. RESULTS The 4 TSH-R-Ab assays were negative in all 42 patients without autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD). In 104 patients with Graves' disease (GD), irrespective of the disease duration, TSH-R-Ab positivity was present in 65 (63%), 67 (65%), and 87 (84%) for the Cobas and Immulite binding assays and stimulatory TSH-R-Ab [thyroid-stimulating immunoglobin (TSI)] bioassay, respectively (TSI vs Immulite P < .0025, TSI vs Cobas P < .0009). Fifteen newly diagnosed GD patients were all positive in the TSI bioassay, but only 11 (73%) were positive in the Cobas and Immulite binding assays. Nine GD patients with biochemical subclinical hyperthyroidism were TSI-positive but Immulite- and Cobas-negative. Two GD patients were blocking TSH-R-Ab [thyroid-blocking immunoglobin (TBI)]-positive and TSI-negative, and the Immulite and Cobas were positive in both. Additional serum samples from AITD patients that consisted of 30 TBI-positive and 10 TSI-positive samples were blindly tested in the binding assays. Only 6 of the 10 TSI-positive samples were positive in both binding assays, and 30 and 28 of the TBI-positive samples were positive in the Cobas and Immulite assays, respectively. CONCLUSION Binding TSH-R-Ab assays are less sensitive than TSI bioassays and are not specific for stimulating antibodies. Measuring the function of TSH-R-Ab in a bioassay can provide useful information to clinicians.

Abstract
Thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor autoantibodies (TRAbs) play a crucial role as pathogenic antibodies in both the diagnosis and management of Graves' disease (GD). GD, an autoimmune disease resulting from a combination of genetic and environmental factors, is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism. With advancements in technology for TRAb detection and the availability of automated commercial kits, TRAb has become an essential clinical laboratory marker for the diagnosis of GD, as well as extra-thyroidal manifestations like Graves' ophthalmopathy (GO). This article provides a comprehensive review of TRAb, encompassing its clinical assays along with its significance in the clinical setting.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study evaluated the efficacy of antithyroid drugs (ATDs) and risk factors associated with the recurrence of Graves' hyperthyroidism using a comprehensive retrospective cohort. METHODS We included 1829 patients newly diagnosed with Graves' hyperthyroidism, with sufficient follow-up data. Clinical outcomes of the patients and risk factors associated with recurrence-free survival, including the changes in thyrotropin receptor antibody, were evaluated. RESULTS The median age of the patients was 44.5 years, and 69% were female. Among the patients, 1235 had a chance to withdraw ATD after a median of 23 (interquartile range (IQR) 17.0-35.5) months of treatment. The first remission rate was 55.6% during a median of 72.7 months of follow-up. After the first recurrence, 95% of patients underwent the second course of ATD treatment for a median of 21.1 (IQR 14.8-31.7) months, and the remission rate was 54.1%. During a median of 67 months of follow-up, 7.7% of patients underwent surgery, and 10.5% underwent radioactive iodine therapy. Approximately 30% were still on ATD therapy for recurrent disease or prolonged low-dose maintenance. Younger age (<45 years), male sex, and fluctuating or smoldering of TRAb levels were independent risk factors of the first recurrence after ATD treatment. CONCLUSIONS ATD treatment is an acceptable option for the initial treatment of Graves' hyperthyroidism as well as for recurrent disease. The optimal treatment period for ATD treatment needs to be determined using the individual risk factors of recurrence.

Abstract
BackgroundClinical relapse is a potential risk for traditional antithyroid drug (ATD) treatment in hyperthyroid patients. Evidence suggests that atherosclerotic disease is closely associated with hyperthyroidism, while the relationship between atherosclerosis and relapse remains unclear.MethodsTwo hundred and twenty-five patients with GD who underwent ATD as their first treatment were studied; 88 and 137 patients were categorized as drug reduction relapse and drug reduction remission, respectively. Logistic regression was used to analyze risk factors of drug reduction relapse in patients with GD.ResultsDuring a median of 48 months followed up 88 patients who relapsed. According to multivariate analyses, atherosclerosis related diseases, FT4, goiter, and anxiety rating scores are independent risk factors for drug reduction. According to K-M survival analysis, patients with atherosclerosis related diseases, FT4 > 18.82 pmol/L, anxiety rating scores > 23, and gradation of goiter ≥ Grade II had a higher risk of relapse than those with lower levels. ROC analysis shown atherosclerosis related diseases significantly improved the predictive accuracy of relapse.ConclusionsAtherosclerotic disease is closely related to the relapse of hyperthyroidism, ATD treatment in hyperthyroid patients with atherosclerosis should be given more attention.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Radioactive iodine (RAI) therapy is a useful treatment for Graves' disease (GD). Most RAI sessions administer ≤ 500 MBq of iodine (I)-131. Sometimes patients require repeated RAI, often for longer periods of remission. We investigated the characteristics of patients for whom high dose (mostly 1110 MBq of I-131) RAI was effective as RAI therapy for GD. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the cases of 79 patients who underwent RAI for GD in a multicenter setting. We divided the patients into two groups based on the I-131 dose administered: the low dose (LD) group who received ≤ 500 MBq (n = 44) and the high dose (HD) group who received > 500 MBq (n = 35). The therapeutic effect was defined as achieving remission and reaching the point of participating in thyroid hormone replacement therapy within 1 year after RAI. We compared the LD and HD groups' remission rates and conducted a multivariate logistic regression analysis of predictive factors for remission. In a simulation, using the formula for predicting the probability of remission obtained from the analysis results, we estimated how much the remission rate would change if the I-131 dose is increased from 500 to 1110 MBq. RESULTS The mean ± standard deviation I-131 dose administered in the LD group was 480 ± 6 MBq, and that of the HD group was 1054 ± 265 MBq. Thirty-five patients (80%) in the LD group and 26 patients (74%) in the HD group achieved remission; this difference in the remission rate was not significant. The multivariate analysis results demonstrated that the absorbed dose and thyroid-stimulating antibody (TSAb) were independent predictors of remission. Seven patients (8.9%) showed an increased probability of remission from < 50% to > 50% when the higher RAI dose was applied (1110 MBq instead of 500 MBq). The thyroid volume and TSAb values in these patients were relatively large at 54.7 ± 34.2 mL and 1378.4 ± 586.3%, respectively. CONCLUSION Although the overall remission rate was not significantly different between the patients who received high- or low-dose I-131, treatment with high-dose RAI may improve the probability of remission in patients with a massive thyroid volume and/or high-TSAb Graves' disease.

Abstract
Objective Thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin (TSI) bioassay has a better ability to predict the relapse rate of Graves’ disease (GD) than the thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)-binding inhibitory immunoglobulin method in terms of measuring the TSH receptor antibody. However, the optimal TSI bioassay cutoff for predicting relapse after antithyroid drug (ATD) withdrawal is not well evaluated. Methods This retrospective study enrolled GD patients who had been treated with ATD and obtained their TSI bioassay <140% from January 2010 to December 2019 in a referral hospital. Results Among 219 study subjects, 86 patients (39.3%) experienced relapse. The TSI bioassay value of 66.5% significantly predicted the relapse of GD (P = 0.049). The group with a TSI bioassay value > 66.5% were expected to show a 23.8% relapse rate at 2 from ATD withdrawal, and the group with a TSI < 66.5% had a 12.7% relapse rate based on Kaplan-Meier curves analysis. The TSI bioassay showed a good ability to predict relapse GD in the female group (P = 0.041) but did not in the male group (P = 0.573). The risk scoring based on the nomogram with risk factors for GD relapse, which was constructed to overcome the limitation, increased the predictive ability of GD relapse by 11.5% compared to the use of the TSI bioassay alone. Conclusions The cutoff value of the TSI bioassay to predict GD relapse should be lower than that for diagnosing GD. However, as the single use of the TSI bioassay has limitations, a nomogram with multiple risk factors including TSI bioassay could be helpful to predict GD relapse.

Abstract
Introduction: Thyroid-stimulatory antibody (TSAb) assays have been recently optimized, potentially allowing to determine thyrotropin receptor antibodies' (TRAbs) functionality in routine clinical practice. We aimed to determine TSAb's predictive role of relapse at antithyroid drug (ATD) withdrawal in Graves’ disease (GD). Methods: Retrospective study of GD patients with stable normal thyroid function under low ATD doses that were proposed for withdrawal. Thyroid function tests and TRAb and TSAb levels were obtained at ATD suspension and every three to six months after that, for a minimum of 16 months. Clinical factors associated with GD relapse, such as age at diagnosis, sex, smoking status, thyroid volume, and presence of orbitopathy, were also evaluated. Results: Thirty-five patients with GD were included for analysis, with a median follow-up period of 24 months, during which 14 patients (40%) relapsed. Relapse was more common in patients with positive TSAb than patients with negative TSAb at ATD withdrawal (79% vs. 33%, p=0.01). Relapse-free survival was shorter in TSAb-positive patients (p=0.01). There were no differences in relapse rates according to TRAb positivity at ATD withdrawal (42.9% vs. 36.4%, p=0.74). We also did not find any differences in relapse rate regarding age, sex, smoking status, thyroid volume, or presence of Graves’ orbitopathy. On multivariate analysis, only TSAb positivity at ATD withdrawal was independently associated with relapse (hazard ratio [HR] 6.63, 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.30-33.7, p=0.02). Conclusion: At ATD withdrawal, TSAb-positive patients demonstrated a higher risk for GD relapse. Measuring TSAb before ATD suspension, instead of TRAbs, could become an important tool for the clinical management of these patients.

Abstract
Graves' disease is associated with thyrotropin (TSH) receptor stimulating antibody, for which there is no therapeutic agent. This disease is currently treated through inhibition of thyroid hormone synthesis or destruction of the thyroid gland. Recurrence after antithyroid drug (ATD) treatment is common. Recent studies have shown that the longer is the duration of use of ATD, the higher is the remission rate. Considering the relationship between clinical outcomes and iodine intake, recurrence of Graves' disease is more common in iodine-deficient areas than in iodine-sufficient areas. Iodine restriction in an iodine-excessive area does not improve the effectiveness of ATD or increase remission rates. Recently, Danish and Korean nationwide studies noted significantly higher prevalence of birth defects in newborns exposed to ATD during the first trimester compared to that of those who did not have such exposure. The prevalence of birth defects was lowest when propylthiouracil (PTU) was used and decreased by only 0.15% when methimazole was changed to PTU in the first trimester. Therefore, it is best not to use ATD in the first trimester or to change to PTU before pregnancy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The bioassay of thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin was reported to have a similar performance to the commonly used thyroid-stimulating hormone binding inhibition assay, also known as thyroid receptor antibody assay. The normal reference range of thyroid receptor antibody levels indicates the withdrawal of anti-thyroid drugs in the recent clinical guidelines. METHODS A prospective, longitudinal observational study was conducted to evaluate the prognostic value of thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin in patients with Graves' disease. RESULTS A total of 77 patients with Graves' disease treated with anti-thyroid drugs were in a continuous follow-up until 1 year after anti-thyroid drugs discontinuation. Commercial kits of thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin and M22-thyroid-stimulating hormone binding inhibition assay were used and compared. Thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin was all negative in healthy controls, Hashimoto thyroiditis, and subacute thyroiditis. Thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin value was highest in untreated patients with Graves' disease (p < 0.001). Under anti-thyroid drugs treatment, thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin value decreased gradually. A total of 21 patients had positive thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin at the end of treatment. According to clinical fate of patients with Graves' disease after withdrawal of anti-thyroid drugs, thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin value and positivity in patients with relapse were significantly higher than that reported in patients with remission (p = 0.001, p < 0.001). After adjustment for age, gender, initial thyroid receptor antibody, initial thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin, and thyroid receptor antibody at the end of treatment, the odds ratio of positive thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin for the risk of relapse was 33.271 (95% confidence interval: 4.741-233.458, p < 0.001) and odds ratio of quantitative thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin was 1.009 (95% confidence interval: 1.002-1.015, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION Thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin is a good predictor of relapse in patients with Graves' disease treated with anti-thyroid drugs. It might be safer to discontinue anti-thyroid drugs when thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin and thyroid receptor antibody were both negative.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Graves' disease (GD) is an autoimmune thyroid disorder caused by antibodies stimulating the thyrotropin (TSH) receptor. TSH receptor antibody (TRAb) measurement is useful for predicting GD relapse after antithyroid drug (ATD) treatment. However, the association of other thyroid autoantibodies with GD relapse remains obscure. METHODS This retrospective study enrolled patients with GD who were initially treated with ATD. TRAb, thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb), and thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb) were measured at the initial diagnosis and at the time of ATD discontinuation. RESULTS A total of 55 patients were enrolled. The mean age was 49.7 years, and 39 patients (70.9%) were female. Antibody positivity at diagnosis was 90.9%, 69.1%, and 61.9% for TRAb, TPOAb, TgAb, respectively. Median ATD treatment period was 15.1 months. At the time of ATD withdrawal, TRAb titers decreased uniformly overall. Conversely, TPOAb and TgAb showed various changes. After withdrawal of ATD, 19 patients (34.5%) experienced relapse. No clinical features or laboratory results were significantly related to relapse in the overall patient group. However, in the TPOAb positive group at diagnosis, increasing titer of TPOAb or TgAb after ATD treatment was significantly and independently related to relapse free survival (TPOAb: hazard ratio [HR], 17.99; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.66 to 195.43; P=0.02) (TgAb: HR, 5.73; 95% CI, 1.21 to 27.26; P=0.03). CONCLUSION Changes in TPOAb or TgAb titers during treatment might be useful for predicting relapse after ATD treatment in patients with positive TPOAb at diagnosis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The use of antithyroid drug (ATD) therapy in patients with Graves' disease (GD) hyperthyroidism has been increasing, but ATD therapy is associated with a higher relapse rate. We aimed to evaluate clinical factors for predicting relapse of GD after ATD therapy. METHODS Patients (n = 149) with newly diagnosed GD who achieved remission of hyperthyroidism after ATD therapy (≥6 months) were followed up for >18 months after ATD withdrawal. We evaluated the predictive factors of relapse during a median of 6.9 years of follow-up. RESULTS Disease relapse occurred in 52 patients (34.9%). By multivariate analyses, a duration of the minimum maintenance dose therapy (MMDT) of <6 months was a significant factor in disease relapse (hazard ratio [HR], 2.58; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.47-4.52; p < 0.001), and a T3/free T4 (fT4) ratio > 120 at ATD withdrawal was significantly more frequent in patients with relapse (HR 2.43; 95% CI, 1.36-4.34; p = 0.002). In the prediction-of-relapse model, the likelihood of relapse was greater in the high-risk group, which had a short MMDT duration and a T3/fT4 ratio ≥120 (HR, 5.81; 95% CI, 2.52-13.39; p < 0.001) and the intermediate-risk group, which had a short MMDT duration or a T3/fT4 ratio < 120 (HR, 2.77; 95% CI, 1.26-6.13; p < 0.001), than in the low-risk group, which had a long MMDT duration and a T3/fT4 ratio < 120. CONCLUSION An MMDT longer than 6 months and a high T3/fT4 ratio at ATD withdrawal were independent predictors of relapse in patients who achieved initial remission after ATD for GD. These factors could be used to determine the optimal time to withdraw ATD during the treatment of GD hyperthyroidism.

Abstract
Whether or not Graves' hyperthyroidism can be really cured, depends on the definition of "cure." If eradication of thyroid hormone excess suffices for the label "cure," then all patients can be cured because total thyroidectomy or high doses of ¹³¹I will abolish hyperthyroidism albeit at the expense of creating another disease (hypothyroidism) requiring lifelong medication with levothyroxine. I would not call this a "cure," which I would like to define as a state with stable thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), free thyroxine, and triiodothyronine serum concentrations in the normal range in the absence of any thyroid medication. Surgery and radioiodine are unlikely to result in so-defined cures, as their preferable aim as stated in guidelines is to cause permanent hypothyroidism. Discontinuation of antithyroid drugs is followed by 50% recurrences within 4 years; before starting therapy the risk of recurrences can be estimated with the Graves' Recurrent Events After Therapy (GREAT) score. At 20-year follow-up about 62% had developed recurrent hyperthyroidism, 8% had subclinical hypothyroidism, and 3% overt hypothyroidism related to TSH receptor blocking antibodies and thyroid peroxidase antibodies. Only 27% was in remission, and might be considered cured. If the definition of "cure" would also include the disappearance of thyroid antibodies in serum, the proportion of cured patients would become even lower.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Antithyroid drug (ATD) treatment occupies the cornerstone therapeutic modality of Graves' disease (GD) with a high relapse rate after discontinuation. This study aimed to assess potential risk factors for GD relapse especially serum interleukin-17 (IL-17) expression. METHODS Consecutive newly diagnosed GD patients who were scheduled to undergo ATD therapy from May 2011 to May 2014 were prospectively enrolled. Risk factors for GD relapse were analyzed by univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard analyses. The association between serum IL-17 expression at cessation and GD relapse was analyzed with relapse-free survival (RFS) by the Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and log-rank test. RESULTS Of the 117 patients, 72 (61.5%) maintained a remission for 12 months after ATD withdrawal and 45 (38.5%) demonstrated GD relapse. The final multivariate Cox analysis indicated elevated IL-17 expression at cessation to be an independent risk factor for GD relapse within 12 months after ATD withdrawal (HR: 3.04, 95% CI: 1.14-7.67, p = 0.021). Patients with higher expressions of IL-17 (≥median value) at cessation demonstrated a significantly higher RFS than those with lower levels by the Kaplan-Meier analysis and log-rank test (p = 0.028). CONCLUSIONS This present study indicated elevated serum IL-17 expression at cessation to be a predictor for GD relapse within 12 months.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Anti-thyroid drug therapy is considered a treatment of choice for Graves' disease; however, treatment response varies among individuals. Although several studies have reported risk factors for relapse after initial treatment, few have assessed responsiveness during the early treatment period. Our study aimed to identify the clinical characteristics for responsiveness to methimazole. METHODS We included 99 patients diagnosed with Graves' disease for the first time. Drug responsiveness was defined as the correlation coefficients between decreasing rates of free thyroxine level per month and methimazole exposure dose. According to their responsiveness to treatment, the patients were classified into rapid or slow responder groups, and age, sex, free thyroxine level, and thyrotropin binding inhibiting immunoglobulin (TBII) titers were compared between groups. RESULTS The mean patient age was 44.0±13.5 years and 40 patients were male (40%). The mean TBII titer was 36.6±74.4 IU/L, and the mean free thyroxine concentration was 48.9±21.9 pmol/L. The rapid responder group showed higher TBII titer and free thyroxine level at diagnosis, while age, sex, smoking, and presence of goiter did not differ between the two groups. Logistic regression analyses revealed that high level of serum thyroxine, high titer of TBII, and absence of goiter were significantly associated with a rapid response, while age, sex, and smoking were not significant factors for the prediction of responsiveness. CONCLUSION In patients with new onset Graves' disease, high level of free thyroxine, high titer of TBII, and absence of goiter were associated with rapid responsiveness to methimazole treatment.

Abstract
CONTEXT Papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) usually has an excellent prognosis. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the three-dimensional structures of PTMCs, using serial neck ultrasonography (US) in patients under active surveillance. DESIGN AND SETTING A retrospective cohort study. PARTICIPANTS In total, 192 patients diagnosed with PTMC under active surveillance for >1 year were included in a median 30-month follow-up. Changes in tumor size were evaluated not only using the maximal tumor diameter but also the tumor volume. RESULTS The median age of patients was 51.3 years and 145 patients (76%) were female. The median initial maximal tumor diameter and tumor volume were 5.5 mm and 48.8 mm3, respectively. The tumor size increased in 27 patients (14%); 23 patients showed a tumor volume increase >50% without a maximal diameter increase of ≥3 mm. The other four patients had both an increasing tumor volume and increasing maximal tumor diameter ≥3 mm. One patient (0.5%) had newly appeared cervical lymph node (LN) metastasis at 3 years after the initial diagnosis. There were no significant risk factors associated with increased tumor size, such as age, sex, or Hashimoto thyroiditis. Twenty-four patients (13%) underwent delayed thyroid surgery at a median of 31.2 months and seven (29%) had cervical LN metastasis on pathologic examination. CONCLUSION Some PTMCs could grow significantly after a relatively short period of active surveillance. We also found that the change in tumor volume was more sensitive to detect tumor progression than the change in the maximal tumor diameter.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Antithyroid drug (ATD) is a widely used treatment for Graves' disease (GD). However, its long-term efficiency remains unclear. This study investigated the long-term disease prognosis and predictive factors for relapse in ATD-treated GD patients. METHODS Newly diagnosed, ATD-treated GD patients with at least four years of follow-up were recruited (n = 187). Remission was defined as maintaining a euthyroid status for more than one year after ATD withdrawal. RESULTS During 11.1 years (range 4.0-23.7 years) of median follow-up, overall, 51.9% of the newly diagnosed ATD-treated GD patients achieved remission, 32.1% continued ATD treatment, and 13.4% underwent other ablation treatments. The 10-year remission rates were higher in the first (34.2%) and second (25.5%) ATD courses than in any of the other subsequent ATD courses, and decreased as ATD treatments were repeated. The 10-year relapse rate was the highest after the third ATD treatment (71.4%) compared with that after the first (60.5%) and second (58.3%) courses. Longer duration of ATD treatment (odds ratio [OR] = 1.4 [confidence interval (CI) 1.2-1.7], p < 0.001), higher number of relapses (OR = 4.7 [CI 2.3-9.8], p < 0.001), and moderate to severe Graves' ophthalmopathy (OR = 4.1 [CI 1.1-15.2], p = 0.032) were associated with persistent disease status. CONCLUSIONS A second course of ATD can be considered for GD patients after the first relapse because the chance of remission and the relapse rate are similar to the one after the first ATD treatment course. For GD patients with more than two relapses, or with an ATD treatment duration of more than four to five years, low-dose maintenance of ATD or ablative treatment needs to be considered.
